So last week I had some issues with algea. I had designed the perfect setup and had it working perfectly. I added a resivor to top off the control bucket.... But I, stupidly, forgot I need to control the water temperature of both the plant sites with control bucket and the top off resivor. On top of the first week's issue of dirt roots all die and the air roots grow when moving from soil to hydro (which I had to do because going hydroponic was decided after I had started my grow) but my girls were so heavily rooted in soil before I moved them to hydroponics that the soil roots balled up, died, then started to rott. So when I added Enzyme Komplete which breaks down dead matter and helps with root rott. It destroyed all my roots. I was close to pulling everything and just starting all over. But instead I spent all of last weekend cleaning the hydroton, and the roots, and the complete system with diluted hydrogen peroxide and scrubbing, replaced vinyl, air lines, air stones, booted the resivor, and crossed my fingers...i lost the weakest plant within 36 hours. The other 5 had new air roots by Tuesday. I changed the timer to give 6 hours darkness followed by 2 hours light for 3 days. This got the roots expanding exponentially. By Friday the roots were down to the water and the girls are eating, drinking, and enjoying the new sun.
It's been a learning experience but I saved 5 out of 6 plants from certain death, and won my first battle with pythium. 3 weeks after the switch from soil to hydro and everything is finally moving smoothly. Water level dropping, pH is steady but variable at 6.18-5.81 all week. EC is 1.61-1.63 and holding steady.
