Pretty solid 4th week, nothing drastic happened. Gelato auto 2 is in a 3 gal pot and new leaves are popping out everywhere. During the beginning of the germination phase this became the 2nd auto because It was the slowest one growing, but look at her now.
Gelato auto 1 just isn't growing as many leaves and the way its growing seems odd to me, although this is my first grow. I almost forgot that it is potted in a 2.5 gal pot so maybe that's whats up? Not really sure. I did top dress the soil some with happy frog, just a dusting really because I'd like to fully dress by the end of this week.
My girls are in a secret jardin tent, using the ac infinity carbon filter and inline fan setup. Under the green sunshine Co's, electric sky V3 180 led. I actually received this grow package off their website, at a really great price. The great thing about the tent is I was able to cut my own cable hole and exhaust holes, they even included the light baffle. I'm just using tap water, but I do let it sit for about 3 days. In the beginning l'll admit, I did buy distilled water.
Left for Alaska for a whole week. Installed an automated watering system & camera, but honestly I must have fucked that up becaused the floor flooded plus the soil was real dry. Hardly holds water now, so hopefully the plants aren't too stressed out. I'll keep watering mindfully for right now. I will say the sizes of these girls are quite different. One auto is short and leafy. The other is tall and doesn't have near as much foliage. Odd. I'm almost is week 8 in the next couples days. I suspect another 2 weeks until harvest, potentially.
Almost into week 9. I just want to note, this is my first grow and my oh my I'm loving the beautiful colors! I've been suspecting that the tall lanky one was a hermie, but nope! It certainly isn't. I guess the restraints of the pot size has caused it be like that. Overall I'm happy with my plants and hopefully in another week or three I'll be able to harvest!
I appreciate all the comments, thanks. I'm enjoying learning as I go so the tips are especially appreciated! So week 9, did some defoliation to expose bud sites. I've began feeding just straight water. I totally had to cut a stem to get a little taster to. Just couldn't wait.
I've began to harvest the leggy autoflower, partially. The bushy auto flower has started to produce a few amber trichomes on some of the tips of the buds. I may possibly throw the plants into darkness this coming Wednesday so that I can harvest on Friday. It really just depends on when I see about 15 to 30% of the trichomes turning amber.
This being my first grow & all, I'm surprised how smoothly this has gone. Growing organically is definitely the way to go.
I've done a partial harvest to expose more light to the underneath of the plants. The bushy auto is crazy sticky while the leggy auto just doesn't have as many trichomes. Cant wait to press some rosin once the buds have cured!
This is an indica but honestly it more like a hybrid strain when smoking. Definitely does help you sleep longer though. I enjoyed going her, and I totally wish I wouldvw just trusted myself and bot used a pot for pot. The gelato auto that I grew on my own using organic living soil did the best. I pulled way more off her than the pot for pot gelato auto. The 3 gal pot really is the sweet spot. For this to be my first grow, I'm very happy with the outcome.
I really thought this girl was going to finish on week 9, maybe 10. Truthfully I had to partially harvest on week 12 and then by week 14 I harvested the bottom half. I'm glad I can use everything ive learned from this first growing experience to improve my bud structure on the next Harvest.
Week 5 has shown how different two plants can grow with just different soil. Auto 1 is in a pot for pot superb soil auto 2 is in coco loco. Both plants are gelato auto's and should be finished growing in another 3 to 5 weeks depending. Auto 2 doesn't have as many leaves as Auto 1 which is pretty nice. Auto 1 has tons of leaves and is just now flowering. Auto 2 has been flowering since the beginning of week of 5. The end of this week I'll be leaving to go on vacation for a week, so I'll be setting up an indoor camera & automatic watering.
@Mirandak7, it’s probably not so much about the substrate/soil as it is genetic differences.. even tho they are the same “strain” there can be wide ranging expressions of the genetics - especially with autoflowers. I wish I would have understood this early on cuz I did a lot of comparisons of different variables to find what worked best and I didn’t realize you can’t have a good comparison without working from clones basically. Awesome looking plants tho they are gorgeous now in flower. Keep up the good work!
