PC, Crit 2.0 Small Pheno Hunt

* The start of a new cycle with new genetics from Barney's Farm and Dinafem. In this run I will be planting 10 seeds of each strain (Pineapple Chunk and Critical 2.0.) The goal in this run is to find the two best and most desired pheno's of each strain, as the first step to finding our single most desired pheno's of each strain. The process of eliminating our less desired pheno's to getting to our single most desired pheno of each strain, will take 2 grow cycles due to space limitations, so we better start now! This week, we simply just plant each seed directly into our pre-loaded coco substrate, water each cavity with a small shot-glass worth of water at a pH of 6.0, and wait for the seeds to pop out of the medium! 23/07/2021 (Day 1): - All 20 cavities are placed inside a sealed dome and placed on op of a heat pad and insulator to maintain a temperature of 23-26 degrees celsius inside the dome. - Seeds were planted and placed under lights at 17:00. - Each seedling cavity was watered with a shot-glass of water, which has been mixed with a Silicon Plus Liquid feed at 1ml/5 liters of water. 26/07/2021 (Day 2-3): - Two Critical 2.0 seeds have popped out the medium on the morning of Monday 26 July, just two and a half days after potting them. (Image 6) 27/07/2021 (Day 3-4): - 5 more Critical 2.0 seeds have sprouted overnight, just over 3 days from being potted. (Image 5) - Pineapple Chunk is well behind at this point, with 0 having sprouted as of yet. - Another Critical 2.0 has popped during the course of the day. 28/07/2021 (Day 4-5): - 9th Critical seed has popped. 29/07/2021 (Day 5-6): - The 10th and last Critical seed has popped overnight. (Image 7) - Still no Pineapple Chunks popping out....hmm... 30/07/2021 (Day 7-8): - 10-0 to the Dinafem genetics (Image 12.) - Still no Pineapple Chunks. At this point, I can only speculate as to whether the seeds are a little older and in need of a longer germination time before sprouting. Who knows... Monitoring very closely throughout each day for the next few days.(Image 11) - Environment has remained ever-steady throughout, with temps ranging between 23-26 degrees celsius, and RH remaining in the 70's. 01/08/2021 (Day 9-10): - At this point, i think it's fair to assume that our Barney's Farm genetics have been compromised prior to purchase. A couple ideas always spring to mind: damaged or old seeds. If they were old seeds, germination would generally need to be helped along by a soaking to help soften the shells of the seeds in order for them to split open. Damaged seeds on he other hand can present a host of problems, largely leading to unsuccessful germinations and/or stunted growth etc... - Another point to think about is that NOT ONE OF THE 10 PINEAPPLE CHUNK SEEDS GERMINATED vs 10/10 SUCCESSFUL DINAFEM SEED GERMINATIONS!! (Both right next to each other in the exact same medium and environment.) This forces me o assume the former of the two options (damaged or old seeds,) as at least 1 seed should have germinated by now if they were old. AT LEAST ONE!! - All i can say is that the environment of the dome has been extremely consistent...(as mentioned above.) - From here, we will let the 10 Critical 2.0 seeds grow out their pots till they get transplanted and head into veg in about 2-3 weeks time, and then perhaps a new, different batch of seeds is in order while we still have the chance during this window before veg. Quite sad.... 11/08/2021: - And we're back... - ....All 10 Pineapple Chunk seeds turned out to be duds. Let's just say that we had to reboot the entire Pineapple Chunk run with new seeds (Image 13)... They're only 19 days behind. No biggy, right? At least we still have a week and a bit before they head into veg.
