Starting this grow for fun. I got two Six Shooters from Fastbuds. The plan is to a companion grow with sugar snap peas (which is a nitrogen fixer) and basil. Depending on how the seedlings look, I'll either put them all in one 25 gallon pot or I'll put one in a 15 gallon with the peas and basil and the other in a 5 gallon by itself. I'm also considering using Blumats for this grow to see how the automated watering would work for my garden. I'll set those up at transplant if I do.
Six shooters are looking real good, so is everything else. Im happy cause it's still been crazy hot but the seedlings are taking off. I've been watering with anything I'm giving my other grow. So this week they got a splash of KNF, compost extract with oceanic hydrolysate, and BioAg Ful-Humix. Going to transplant early next week, probably into separate pots but we'll see if the shorter one catches up. There is also a spider that's made it's home in the tall one, best pest control around 👌🏾
Transplanted these little ones into their final pot last week. I'm a bit worried that they are already showing signs of flower, but we'll see. The smaller one went into a 5 gallon and the bigger one into a 15 gallon with sugar snap peas and basil (radish didn't make it). Both both soils had grown a plant before and were reamended for this run, more on that below. As usual I busted the hole with DtE Starter mix but I also picked up a sample of Xtreme Myco from my local garden store so I'm also trying that out.
For watering they still have mostly been getting whatever I prepare for my photos. Before transplant they got some KNF soil drench and foliar spray. At transplant I also did a good drench with aloe vera with BioAg Ful-Humix in the morning then malted barley SST in the evening to get everything settled. Lastly, I got some new stugg from Build a Soil, the horticultural coconut powder and the quillaja (recommended from JayPlantspeaker). I know it was a lot but I wanted them to get a running start.
In terms of IPM, I made some EM-5 with serrano peppers, gave them a quick spray of that as a repellent.
Per cubic foot of soil (Many of them DtE products)
1/4 Cup Neem Seed Meal
1/4 Cup Kelp Meal
1/4 Cup Crab Meal
1/2 Cup Alfalfa Meal
1/4 Cup Marine Cuisine
1/8 Cup Bio-Live
1/4 Cup Acid Mix
1/4 Cup Karanja Pellets
1/2 Cup Ground Malted Barley
1 TBSP of each of the following: soft rock phosphate, soybean meal, cottonseed meal, fish bone meal, insect frass
Minerals:
1/8 Cup Cal-Phos
1/2 Cup Oyster Shell Flour
1 Cup Basalt
1/2 Gypsum
True to name, girls were fast to bud lol. Week 3 and already in flower. This week they got KNF with Fish Hydrolysate, Ful Humix, Cal Mag, compost extract, and my new Build-a-Soil line up, Horticultural Coconut, and Quillaja Extract.
In term of IPM I did a preventative spray of Monterey Horticultural Oil since I wont use it anymore in flower. The 15 gallon might have a few gnats but overall there isn't much pest pressure on these. I found a big ass grasshopper fucking up a whole leaf on my photos. So I stomped on that fool lol.
Lastly, now that the plants are bigger I realized that my high ass put artichokes and not basil into this pot 😂. So we six shooting peas and artichokes now, although I might have to chop of them down for space. The lower pea leaves got a bit crispy but nothing too bad, everything looking good. Edit again: ok so they're not artichokes after all, but Thai basil!! Lol I guess Thai basil looks really different from regular one.
Straight forward week for these two. 5 gallon is looking real good. LST opened her up good.
The 15 gallon one is a bit slower. It has some gnat issues, that took out some leaves. I'm also worried that the basil is taking too much root space, next week I might cut two of the three thai basils. Hopefully she doesn't stay small as it has a lot of potential.
Mixed week for these girls. The 5 gallon is killing it, no complaints there. Continued light LST, I think there are 5 good colas now so I'll probably won't train it too much more.
The 15 gallon is were I fucked up. Mid-week I noticed a fuck ton of gnats. I thought I had them under control but after overwatering a bit they came back. I'm letting that pot get a bit dry and I also dusted a heavy layer of DE to kill the adults, will continue to dust. I also got a neem seed meal tea brewing, following Coot's recipe, for early next week. The plant has been growing slow but new growth is still looking good. I did two down two of the three basil plants, but the remaining basil and the sugar snap peas are both doing great.
One of my other grow had some caterpillars on them, so I sprayed every plants with Monterey Spinosad (didn't have BT). Some of the cover crop I had copped and dropped at transplant has also sprouted. Hopefully they will attract beneficial insects once they flower.
Been a fun grow so far, peas look really cool lol.
Real simple week for these girls. KNF with fish hydrolysate, Build a Soil Trio (Coco, Q, and Build a Bloom), humic acid, and cal-mag.
The 5 gallon is looking good. I've grown bigger plants in this size pot but this looking like a real fast finisher, maybe 2 or 3 weeks more. It smells great too! Pine and citrus notes when I rub the sugar leaves.
The 15 gallon is .... not that great. Im thinking of pull this one and planting another plant. It's unfortunate cause I wanted to see this strain at full potential in the 15 gallon but it never recovered from the gnat issue at transplant. Sucks cause it's the last Six Shooter I had but it just means I get to grow something different in the late summer sun. We'll see what happens next week.
Also, I caught this spider coming in at night to munch on pest. Best IPM you could ask for (but I still sprayed some EM-5 lol).
✊🏾
Well, this was definitely a mixed week.
First, 5 gallon is killing it. Small plant but smell incredible, fresh pine and citrus note omg I can't wait.
On the other hand the 15 gallon is ... no more lol. I had decided to pull the plant and when I did I noticed that its roots never expanded so I threw into this tiny pot I had with some flower and let it ride it out. She wasn't happy the first but settled in by the end of the week. I also removed a caterpillar and some dead leaves. So definitely going to be a tiny harvest but it just smells so good still and since I didn't destroy the roots why not let it finish and make some tasty hash or oil lol.
