First grow ever. I've done a lot of reading, and have done gardening. Anxious but you gotta start somewhere. I chose to start with autoflowers in a supersoil to try to minimize the fiddly bits with feeding and light management.
It's been 22 years since I last smoked weed. Kept up a little bit with it, as far as names of popular strains, but I'm basically coming in blind (not that kind, yet.). While I'm super happy to be able to grow some medicine and relaxation fuel, I'm really excited to watch the plants grow. I was fortunate enough to have friends that grew back in the day, but I never got to be a part of that.
Couldn't resist a strain named Zkittlez OG, the red bag of skittles is one of my top 5 candies.
The Purple Kush CBD is a 1:1 ratio that I'm hoping to have around as a way to introduce cannabis to some friends who want to try it, I'm also super excited to see if we'll get some colors.
The AK-47 and Gorilla Cookies were freebies from 207 Genetics in an order and both look fun to grow. I recognize the names/lineage, too. In the future, I'm planning on trying to grow/find more of the classics.
They're all alive! I'm super excited.
Gorilla Cookies was the first to pop, and has the strongest growth.
Watering about 2oz per plant per day. Watering in a large circle around the plant to help the roots look for water.
I haven't killed them yet. I think germination and sprouting was the most stressful for me. They all have two sets of leaves. The Gorilla Cookies is still the biggest of the bunch.
The Purple Kush CBD is growing sorta weird, maybe it's a mutant? (GrumpyUncleMatt from the future: more on that in future weeks, learning is fun but sometimes painful).
Noticed a gnat, and wanting to avoid fungus gnats, got some sticky paper and diatomaceous earth.
Added an oscillating fan to the corner of the tent (it finally showed up).
coming up on day 21 from sprout. in the middle of last week I made sure to check that the light was 12 inches from plants.
They're still growing happily. I'm still a little sad about whatever is going on with the Purple Kush CBD. (Future Grump: yup, I'll figure it out in a day or two.)
This is the
7/28 - Bottom watered a bit. I don't want to overwater. Turned the light up a notch (up to around 400-500ish PAR). This is the first day I noticed a smell in the tent.
7/31 - I'm overwatering. That's why the Purple Kush CBD is sad. It was a slow accumulation of water in the soil from the previous waterings. I realized that the soil is holding on to way more water than I thought. The pots felt light, but then I don't have an dry pot around to check. Sticking a skewer through the dirt, I can see where it's still coming out wet. Began withholding water, as I don't think there's anything else I can really do short of transplanting (eek.) to let them dry out.
Watered on 8/3. Pots finally almost dry 8/7, (will) watered 8/8.
Raised the light a bit on 8/4 to keep 12 inches from plants.
8/6 - first LST and leaf tucking. pictures of immediately after, and on 8/7. noticed a bit of nute burn on the Zkittlez OG.
8/7 - they've responded well/recovered well from the LST. it's really amazing to see. Purple Kush CBD is looking a little better. Pots are still a bit damp, want to wait to let them get dry before water, so planning to water tomorrow. Lots of bud sites appearing, we're probably going to start flower next week?
8/8 -watered. realized i overfed them with the fishbone meal. should have cut it in half because these are autoflowers. can't remember if i mentioned that i snapped a branch on the Purple Kush CBD. taped it up. i am an asshole :(
8/9 -just checkiing on them. they're doing ok. still feel bad about too much food and the branch. but i'm learning.
8/11 - going out of town for an unfun reason. they'll have a babysitter over the weekend.
report from 8/13 and 14: watered on 8/13. they look like they're doing ok. snapped branch is crispy in spots but looks like it's still alive. on 8/15 decided not to water, still a little damp. we're afraid to overwater, but looks like they're drinking more.
8/16-17 - light water when got back from out of town late.
8/19 - defoliation and taking a good look at the plants. they're doing ok. they're bone dry this morning and looking thirsty. flower is fun to watch. the Purple Kush CBD is purple now, she's also the tallest of the bunch. AK-47 is a dense little tank of a plant. Zkittles OG is starting to stretch. Gorilla Cookies is looking nice, i think she's stacking on the main cola, although the other plants are now starting to catch up in size. watered them today.
yes, i have nute burned these poor girls. too much water in living soil at the start. then too much fish meal at the start of flower. despite me, they're chugging along. looking forward to watching them continue.
8/21 - dry today, gave some water. I think they're getting taller every time I look in the tent. it's interesting to see the Purple Kush CBD and the Zkittles OG stretch and the AK-47 and Gorilla Cookies keep a stocky, compact shape.
still growing along. starting to see some of the evidence of "first time growing" in my opinion. some nute burn, and either some lockout or deficiencies starting to appear. plants are still growing though. sorry this week is a little light on content, busy.
buds keep thickening up. did some light defoliation. stilll sad about some of the "learning" these plants have had to live thru. i've given them some cal/mag and i top-dressed a little 4-4-4 into the pots. did some soil tests and N and P are good. looks a little low on K, not totally sure what to do about that.
some of the leaf color is clearly signs of issues while growing (food/water), but I do think there's a little bit of fade starting to show.
also, they're not huge plants, but the buds themselves look pretty to me.
i think we're getting close to the end. probably a couple more weeks. can see these ladies haven't had the best life. this is my first grow and i'm learning, i hope. but it also looks like there's some natural fade starting on some of these girls.
buds are dense and getting thicker all the time.
if anyone wants to comment about what issues they think a plant has based on pictures, please feel free.
9/11 - gave them some cal-mag today. reading around, using RO/filtered water can lead to calcium deficiency, which it looks like i have. i use ro'ed water. we'll see if that helps with some color at this point.
9/13 - gave them their last watering, i think. looking at trichomes, it looks like they're pretty close, so I'm assuming next week is harvest.
will update more when it's cured.
fairly easy to grow. probably stunted it at some point. it was short and stocky. smells great. for a first grow, i'm not complaining.
for my first grow, and for the plant that got it the worst, this was a great outcome. having early sampled, this is a great strain for unloading stress fast and still being able to do stuff. looking forward to the next grow.
started as the strongest grower and ended up a great looking plant, no matter how much i tried to make that difficult. i think i have another seed here, so I'll be happy to grow it again.
