As planned since day 1, flowering starting on week 9, after growing for 8 weeks.
The show is really starting now ๐คฉ
๐ฎ EXPECTATIONS FOR THE FLOWERING PERIOD ๐ฎ
----------------------------------------------------------
As some of you noticed, I'm keeping the name of this genetic a secret :)
Depending of the results, I'll break that secret at harvest!
What I can say for now:
- This strain have Mendocino parents. I'm still thinking that this is the origine of the taste I'm looking for.
Of course, other genetics may have the taste I'm looking for, but I believe that a well stabilized Mendocino with great selection work, should be the best candidate.
It was the goal of the breeder of this genetic. And I've decided to grow 4 plants, so I will not question again the potential of mendo.
I'm verry excited to meet my good old friend, the best taste I ever seen in cannabis. Something unique...
- The flowering should be short: arround 60 days. So I expect an harvest in the first half of December. So first joints arround Christmas, isn't it perfect :D
- Indica dominant. Of course. As always when you target taste :D She tend to grow medium size, with lot of lower branches. The applied main-lining will help to get nice buds on thoses ;)
I've noticed that the plants were already showing lot of pistils on week 8, before changing the light schedule.
Two potentials explainations : I should have transplanted later, because roots maybe reached bottom of the pot. This is known to act on flowering triggering.
The second alternative explaination may be that this strain is simply faster than the previous regular strains I've grown.
So, note to myself: I must try to start flowering at week 8 next time (If she's the strain I'm looking for, I may grow it again and again and again ^^)
4 plants, 16L pots.... I think I may get like 300g. But to be honnest, I don't really care. I WANT THE TASTE!
๐ ๏ธ FEEDING & PH ADJUSTMENT ๐ ๏ธ
---------------------------------------
The feeding have changed. The quantity of nutrients added to the water is impacting a lot the final PH.
But I'm not checking PH at each time. I'm doing it ONE time, when the feeding recipe change. I use PH-down from Biobizz until I get the perfect PH. And then I keep adding the same amount of PH-down at each feeding.
I'm using tape water, and the PH isn't really changing (0.2 variation maximum on the last 5 years. I got those data by checking water analysis done by authorities).
I decided to recalibrate my PH pen, to be sure I was not going to do mistakes! And I double checked with PH paper!
On the end, I'm adding 5 drops of ph-down in 1.25L. I'll have to redo this again at 3th week of flowering since I'll increase nutrients dosages.
I'm still following Biobizz recommandations for Light-mix. Even If I'm using all-mix. (Because this soil already been used with previous grow)
๐ PLANTS OBSERVATIONS & UPKEEP ๐
----------------------------------------------
Update about "The Ugly" : Well people, I belive she is going to be a nice plant :D She's showing a decent amount of budsites, and she's verry vigorous.
She have grown A LOT of leaves, way more than the 3 others plants. So I had to perform an intensive defoliation to let light get through it.
I've cut some branches too, because they were malformed: ugly leaves, twisted, facing unlogical directions, and showing almost no pistils.
She's definitly the good news of the week ๐
I performed defoliation on every plants this week. This is verry important at this stage, since the plants are stretching.
I ***BELIEVE*** that a node that don't get enough light at this stage, will not provide good results later on. I really think that defoliation at this stage is a key to nice harvest.
I'll not perform that much defoliation after that, since most apex and branches will have grow and reached light :)
No distinctive smell for now. It's the regular smell of cannabis plant that my nose recognize.
It's just the smell of the plant sweeting, buds sites doesn't smell anything at this stage, and that's normal.
๐ฆ BUGS!??? ๐ฆ
------------------
I found one caterpillar on the Ugly. The same kind than the one I found during week 4 or 5.
They were probably brother/sister. This one was longer, more mature.
Luckilly it's a really small one, that doesn't eat that much. It did some holes on lower leaves, that got defoliated anyway.
It damaged like 4-5 leaves, eating like 1% of each... Plants didn't noticed it I'm sure :D
I did some research, and I believe it come from moths, the kind I saw in grow room during the firsts weeks of the grow.
Only one plant been eated, and the damage are so small that I'm not worried. And there is no moths since weeks, simply because the weather is really cold and I don't keep every windows open anymore :)
By the way, I haven't seen thrips during my last check... .I'm sad ๐ฅ Was too easy ๐ฅ R.I.P Thrips.
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
Thanks for reading ๐ Please tell me what you think about the pictures :)
I'm trying to show as much details as I can, but maybe you guys
will have good recommandations :) Bye, see you next week!
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
EDIT Day +1 : I checked weather for the upcoming days. There will be 7 days of bad weather with rain. Air humidity is going to be 70-90% for like a week starting from tomorrow.
SO... I'm opening every windows NOW since outside air is at 30-40% air humidity. I'm stocking as much as dry air I can, to avoid humidity raise in the grow room in the next days :)
Wow! I really enjoyed visiting ur journals! Great work, I hope youโll get a healthy grow with the best results and some delicious buds at the end. Keep on doing ur thing.
I will drop by some times to see your progress on ur grows! Happy growing and feel free to drop by anytime to say hello! Have a good day ๐๐ฅฆ
Sounds like you're trying to catch some previous lightning in a bottle...but sure it's a worthwhile quest to be on!!! Good luck and hope you find the flavour you're looking for in here!
@PurpleWorship, nah, they are good, i don't care so much about couple spots on first leaves ;) you have to try products, to understand what and when, failure is success sometimes too !!!
@AsNoriu, It was important to me you like it, because you made me realise previous ones were not that great. I really appreciated this feedback,
because i didn't noticed the problem, and I been abble to improve my pictures after that.
I'm verry verry sorry about your bad experience with leafcoat :S
Why did you applied it that early? An emergency I guess.. :S ?
I only used it way later, when plant well grown.
Each time I'm applying a product (like black soap), I'm pre-spraying my plants, so leaves drink as much as they can,
and then when it's dry, I apply the product.
Anyway dude... I hope they'll recover :/
@PurpleWorship, ;)))) i am not your nasty Spanish teacher ;))))
All the best in your adventure, hope you'll find that taste in those girls !
I have tried to use LeafCoat on youngsters, 8th day, got burn, even after first application during first night. Be cautious with it, i know you like the stuff ;))
@Mr_Cannuccia19, Thank you.. I dont know what to say. I have a looooooooot to learn and understand. And I like to take my time. I'm also thinking the same with so much other growers on @growdiaries. This place offer us an unique chance to share and learn from each others... Thanks for this kind comment :)
That purple taste you are referring to I found the perfect cannabis from stones coffee shop in Amsterdam around 2009.
It was a blueberry x a reversed purple kush. In my top 3 ever smokes for sure if not too 1.
I think a purple kush x blueberry strain is what I would be hunting if trying to replicate that quite rare mix of terpenes.
@PurpleWorship, grand daddy purple is on my list to grow funny enough, I was looking at the version from the originators grand daddy purple seeds which had a similar description to what I remember from 2009.
They also had them in regular which is another plus point in my opinion being more stable than a feminised strain. I think that would be a very good chance to finding that terp we crave, also sell them in fem too.
I think medical seeds also do a Mendocino purple kush in fem which I have pondered buying a few times over the years but I got caught up in the hype of these new over hyped low yielding hemi prone strains๐ in fact the only hype strain that I found stood out was barneys runtz muffin which with the right pheno looks crazy (several examples in my diaries) and hits like a truck but again low yielding and hemi prone if you even look at it funny while in the grow room๐
In the UK we had purple haze around 1996-1997 which had the first type of purple taste arrive which I wish I had some seeds of but like many other fantastic strains from years ago that genetic pool seems missing from todayโs market.
The cookie crosses have done as much bad as good for the cannabis connoisseurs in my humble opinion.
I will be sure to follow your diaries and hope you find what you are looking for my purple hunting brother๐
Good luck finding your purple bro!
I agree on the pots, I've got some lavender I started in them and they fall over or are just super awkward to water!
Wider is better! I use 3 gal pots but thought I'd buy 5 gal measure 3 gal and cut the excess pot away (fabric obviously), giving me the extra vertical space and making watering a little easier ๐
@InspireMe, I tried corriander in it too, and miserably failed :D
It need way more attention than with other pots, because it just accelerate water dissipation.
And also, there is not that much plants that would benefit from a so deep pot that tight. Carrots maybe XD? Weirdly designed to be honnest.
Following your Quest for the " Purple Grale"
but how can you call those little ones ugly tststs..... if they hear it๐ฑ
I really like your grow-description and your thoughts.Pictures are sharp and good aswell, keep that track!๐
I agree to the XS-2000, tent stays quite cool, no overheating
@Mrs_Larimar, Damn I were is my first answer!?
I was saying that I was calling her "my pretty Ugly" so I think it's totally fine :)
My pictures are good when I get plant outside, under sun light. But I can't make decent photos in the grow tent...
The light spectrum is messing with my camera so much lol.
"I really like your grow-description and your thoughts."
Thanks :) I'm trying to share interesting thoughts without going crazy with data / techy details.
I'm glad you find it appreciable :)
