she seems good enough. i did notice my soil doesn’t drain well. looking back at my soil mixture- dummy here forgot to add all the perlite. so, i figure i’m gonna have to go easy on watering. start gettin a feel for the pot weight and density

well this was a week of learning and rookie mistakes. i got inpatient waiting for supplies to arrive in the mail. but the lamp came. so i tried some training- and all i had were some wire hangers i thought i could manipulate to train- and of course i got careless and folded the stem a bit. also thought i’d give a fim a try. it was cool to see how that redirected flow. one of the heads seems very odd like i butchered it’s little primordial important parts. then i got cavalier and i snipped a handful of leaves off to give her (bertha) some shaping room. i got my little wires and just started feelin it out giving it some amorphous pipe like direction. tent, fam filter. all set up now.

what sort of bud size and structure should i anticipate with what i’ve got here? should i remove the bottom most shoots cuz they’ll just be larfy? or since this is a first grow should i just watch and learn from it?

should i downsize my light? is 1000 too much? the very tips of the pistils seem like they’re drying and browning after a couple days…?

I would not exceed 600w at less than 27". Your light manufacture may have suggested height settings for veg and flower. In my experience max 400w thru veg then up to 500ish during flower. There are other factors such as air movement & temp. To much heat stress from lamps can cause burnt leaf tips, burnt pistols and fox tailing. Less is more if it means a happier plant. Stay Frosty Friend!

the very bottom (1-1.5”) of my soil won’t drain. it’s compact and wet. becoming acidic(ph5, and the ph comes up to 6.8 the less deep u go) should i take the plant out from the pot and replace the shitty soil? i feel like i should. i just need encouragement and direction

You could. But you risk stressing her out. Autos hate being transplanted. Given the fact your growing in a fabric grow bag- you should not have her sitting directly in/on her run off. Do you move her and allow her to drain during waterings? Try using something underneath that both catches her run off but keeps the bottom on the bag away from the water 🌱 https://www.htgsupply.com/products/square-farmer-pot-elevator-10/

she’s starting to stretch and starting to build a weee bit of little bud structures. she’s getting good air, a few hours of direct sunlight(screened window) as a supplement to her LED time. she’s now getting 1/4 tsp in 1L formula of ILGM flowering nutes. gonna try and fix those drainage problems this weekend. in the meantime i found a nice watering balance. and u can tell she’s thirsty. this is neat hehehheh

working out the watering and drainage problems has helped a bit. although not totally resolved. the buds are continueing a slow gradual progressive vertical growth. it’s getting a little crowded in the mid section. but they seem to find a way to space themselves out a little. steady as she goes. i’m decreasing the nute schedules/diseases because of my slow drainage, don’t want to cause a buildup. although she’s squat, methinks she’s doing pretty decent! lil bertha.

my little plumpkin here plumping slowly. but steadily. i like her. i stopped nutrients this week prepping for water only due to drainage issues. figured she’s healthy enough otherwise she can carry to maturity with what’s in the soil still. fingers crossed!

i think we’re in the home stretch here. tryin to keep the humidity below 50. u can notice the difference when u get the humidity down in the trich robustness. pretty neat. i’d say the trichs are about 50% cloudy 40 still clear and the rest amber. i think two weeks to go!

sproutin more white hairs! maybe she’s gotta another burst in her. there’s wee bits of purple on some of the oldest calices. i think she’s fox tailing the slightest bit on a couple buds too. brought the lights up a couple inches. btw- the drainage problem solution- a couple hours after watering, a few paper towels under the pot and on a raiser. capillary action draws the water down the soil column. paper towel air dries in the periphery. change it when near soaked until the flow slows. perfect.

snipped a wee bit. so larfy🤣 and a day later she gives another little push. i was gonna harvest the rest tonight… but now i think i’ll give her another few days.. the trich coloration is quite variable. like 25%white 60%cloudy 15% amber. but there are plenty of calyces that don’t look as swollen or developed as i think they could be?

well, for a plant that started as a window micro grow taught me sooo much. a forgiving enough plant that was abused by a novice and came through to harvest! it may not be much… but it’s a success! she smells like a clemetine that was dipped in kerosene!

Haha I read your whole diary. Love it! You started it just for fun and then the sickness has set in as the weeks went by 🤣. You’re addicted to growing MJ hahah I can tell. I got the sickness too. I popped my beans 85 days ago just for fun too and I now have two tents going and amassed lots of equipment. I love it, however my bank account not so much but you gotta pay to play. Good luck the rest of the way.

@sorethumb, haha I’m probably the last guy you should take growing advice from. Though I do see your pots sitting on that flat tray. I’m of the opinion in a fabric pot you need to have some air circulation under there also helps with not letting your pot fester in it’s own juices. I would look at getting some pot risers. They sell anywhere from 5-10 bucks. I agree with you though it is so much fun watching them grow.

@sorethumb, oh man I’m just on my first grow making my own mistakes. I’m definitely in no position to give sound growing advice. I’m just hooked as well and enjoying the ride and learning. I definitely agree with you it is fun. Rewarding and challenging. Few grows under our belts and we’ll be on our way. Ok I see you have your pots directly flat on your tray. I’m of the opinion that you need air flow underneath so that the fabric pot doesn’t fester in its own juices and get a chance to dry out and deliver some sweet oxygen to those roots. I would look for some pot risers. They can be found online for 5-10 bucks each. But again I don’t know your irrigation habits so it could be fine for you. That’s my growing tip.

She looks stunted to me. Not sure of cause. Maybe to much trimming? I am still new to this all as well. I am going to look at mainlining photos next grow with 12 x 12 from seed. Good luck on all your grows friend. Stay Frosty!

@sorethumb, yeah for sure. Don't be afraid to something different. Making mistakes is part of the fun of getting better. I had soil issues and ph issues my first grow. The plant may look small but she looks healthy. I'm finding things I change about my technique all the time just because of the feedback I get from the plant. Stay frosty brother!

sorethumbcommented3 years ago
@Mr_Horse, thanks for the input! i agree. she’s been a little stunted the whole time. in my limited knowledge- my soil was bad from the start. i messed up and it doesn’t drain well. messed up w too little perlite. so i’ve overwatered for sure. and i definitely got overzealous w defoliation. i figured since i messed up from the start, i wanted to see how little different stressors affect it. i dont have the highest expectations. just high hopes and having fun. but want to learn and improve, naturally. my next one should be better….. starting a good soil foundation. not crap
