Absolutely you can. I start LST right from the very beginning. When it sprouts I push it around from side to side a little bit to promote good stem strength. Then I use my fingers to gently spread the leaves apart. Then when the time is right I start getting a little more aggressive with hold staples and string to really start training the plant.
