First grow! first week! I had outside to start because I didn’t want to stress it out. It’s going well I think? Next week I’ll move it to the lights.

This is my first time growing EVER! I am very excited but also pretty clueless. I do like to research a lot though so I learn something new every day. I don’t mind anyone giving any advice because I am very new. No nutrients. Watering every three days. Just started under light as I had this on my porch in the sun so as to not stress the plant as it started to grow. Moved to my grow area. I don’t have any reflectors or anything at this time.

FIRST GROW EVER ! So she’s growing pretty well. I think I’ll start nutrients next week because her stems make me nervous. She looks a bit weak.

This is my first grow EVER! I got some free nutrients with my soil and decided to try it out. Fox grow big bloom. And WOW did it blast up since last week. Since my soil was ocean forest I didn’t want to nutrient it too early due to the potting soil having so many nutrients. I have humidity, temp, ph, moisture and light meters to keep eye on the measurements. I haven’t used distilled water and I didn’t know (until just as I was reading this website) that ph can be a factor in poor grows. I will make sure to at least check that or use distilled in the future. I have a fan blowing out an open part to keep it below 80 degrees because it does get quite warm in my makeshift duct insulation “tent.” It’s really just an unused roll of duct insulation we had. But it doesn’t seem the plant has minded (and it’s starting to get colder here and it’s in my garage/basement and it can get a bit colder now - so the insulation may be a good thing as the seasons change)

So yesterday, I noticed these little balls (photo #2) growing. I remember when I was younger hearing this could mean I have a hermaphrodite! I immediately took 2 of the balls I saw off and washed it down my sink. I didn’t do a thorough job because today, I saw two popped pods and pollen on one of the lower leaves. I used a clean wet rag to remove the pollen on the leaves. But I’m not sure if that will even help any…. I don’t see any banana appendages yet. I did switch the light (I have read that switching lights and stuff can stress a plant and maybe become a hermaphrodite but it’s not a big deal?). Either way, pollen did pop on at least my leaves. They don’t seem to have hit any buds but I also do realize pollen can spread a good distance. Either way I will finish off this plant and not try to end it early due to this. I’d still like to see what happens with my first plant. Even if they don’t produce any great buds….I’m still gonna grow it fully. I’m going to press the leaves at the end to create a nice piece to commemorate my first grow. Any knowledge of how serious this is would be appreciative.

How worried should I be with a possible hermaphrodite? Ive found a total of 4 pollen pods. ive wiped the leaves from 2 that opened n spread the pollen on sum lower leaves. I don’t see any banana appendages. Should I just keep watching n plucking the pods?

KILL IT KILL IT WITH FIRE haha sorry but yes you have a fine set of balls good sir get rid before that opens thats a one way stream of shite you dont want to deal with if that opens up your whole grow area is compromised for like a long time lol male pollen is microscopic like mould spores its very very very hard to get rid of in your grow area if it happens I would bleach down everything in there absoluitly everything even a needle if it was in the area clean it lol other wise bits of pollen can hang around and pollenate your next crop :) Advice for this not to happen again ? The number 1 cause of herms is light leaks. if there is any type of light getting in the area when the plants are asleep if the light is not green it will harm your plants and cause this best way is to sit in your area for about 15 mins in the dark and block any light you can see coming in or if you dont wanna do that do what i have done and replace the lights around your grow room to green lights green light is the only type that will not harm our ladies in the dark peroid so if the light is green and some light is getting it it wont matter :) wow my wrist hurts haha lol 👊

After last weeks realization that I may have shocked it to become a hermaphrodite; taking care to remove pollen sacks when they come up (none since last week). It’s grown to 40in. And still budding. Hopefully, even though it had some balls they won’t effect the buds (too much). Being my first grow I’m too excited to put her/him out of its misery. I wanna see what happens. Even if i don’t get the best batch. I’ll still have something I can say I grew it. Next one I won’t make the mistakes of light leak. But that’s how ya learn!

So, unfortunately, after the discovery that my plant is a hermaphrodite (with help from my diary crew - thanks) at week 8, I still continued to go through with the grow anyway, because it was budding and being my first grow I wanted to see it through (I only had one to try my first time anyway and didn’t wanna get rid of it after all those weeks of work). I did make sure no other seed pods stayed and removed them. After the first removal of seed pods no other ones came up. Unfortunately, that one seed pod that popped did seed the plant (I knew it was gonna happen but hoped it didn’t after I washed the plant with water hoping to deactivate the seeding pow pow). But she’s heavy and full and even though she got a few seeds (not that many per bud so far so not too bad) I’m kinda happy with the amount of bud she/he’s got. Buds are lookin big though since week 9 (my last update - sorry I missed a month!). Right now the trichomes are mostly cloudy with only maybe 1-2 I’ve seen with the scope being brown. So gotta wait prolly a week or two to get that brown trichome to come in. I haven’t been doing nutrients the past two weeks cus I thought it’d be ready for harvest and didn’t want the nutrients in there. But obviously, I’ve been too quick to think she’d be ready. She’s ready at her own time, so next water I’ll do those nutrients for her. Researching drying and curing to get ready for it. I’ve learned to keep it at 65 degrees humidity and in the dark upside down after cutting so I have a closet picked out and a fan set up. My house stays at low humidity so I’m gonna start testing out the humidifier with a barometer to get the humidity setting right in preparation for harvest. I’ve learned a lot with my first grow and I can’t wait to start the next one. Prolly going to do LST try to have a bigger harvest next time with better nutrients. But I’m not done with this one yet! Any other advice would be welcome!

I wet trim, put in my hanger to dry for 4 to 6 days usually in a closet, in the dark, no fans and no humidity control. When the buds feel like they could be smoked, but really aren't ready yet., and the stems have a slight crack when you bend them, I put all the bud together into a box or cooler if you have one. You shut the lid until the buds become rehydrated. This usually takes 15 minutes to half an hour. This is called sweating. As soon as it feels wet again, you open the lid of the box or cooler and start drying it in the box or cooler. When the top starts to dry, bring the bottom to the top, and let that start to dry. Repeat this until all the bud reaches the dryness that you like, smokable at this point. Jar the weed and leave the jars open the first day. Then close the jars for a day. Open the next day to burp for a few hours. Check every day for a week to see whether they need to be burped. When you open the jars and they feel the same dryness as the day before, then it can be shut and stored in a dark place for up to 2 yrs. This is how most big growers dry their crops, and the only way I will do it. If you want to try different ways is alright as well. Just do this with a small portion of your harvest and see how the end product tastes. Try some the other ways and see how they taste. If you want the taste you get from quality smoke, my way takes out all the homegrown green taste. Always great tasting smoke and as soon as it is dried, it's smokable. Final cure in jar just adds to it. No homie smell after smoking....

So under magnification the resin mushies are all cloudy. I think I found only one brown one on the whole plant so still waiting. Looks like my timer was loose cus my light was off at a time it shouldn’t have been. Not sure how many days it’s been misfiring at certain times since I only get to check on Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry/Rocky Horror Picture Show reference) during times I’m home. I’ve caught it twice at different times when it came loose. A bit bummed. But a quick fix with the wire clipped so it didn’t pull down on the timer randomly fixed it. I’ll obviously be super observant over the next few days to be sure it doesn’t do it again. But it’s cloudy so probably messed up a bit on the timing due to the lack of light. Learning as I go so everything is a lesson with my first grow. After harvest I’ll have to clean down everything with cleaning stuff to make sure my next grow doesn’t get ruined by the few pollen sacs that blew. Def not super impressed with the resin on this plant but I’m not surprised with the seed growth and hermaphrodite. But since I learned A LOT with many pitfalls and trials and plenty of errors, I’m sure my next one will be much better; especially perusing other people’s diaries and obviously EVERYONE’s kind answering of my questions and advice. I can’t wait to put all I learned SO FAR (not done yet) and put it to my next grow (maybe 2 next time?) and get even better with each consecutive grow. Even if this grow isn’t the best with smoke; I can put my magic butter machine my friend gave to me to test! I’m not saying my he/she Frank N. Furter isn’t gonna be great but I do have plan B’s 👾
