24 hours in water, then moved to paper towel in a ziplock.
100% germination rate
After 24 hours in paper towel 5 were ready
After 48 hours in paper towel all had sprouted tails
Super stoked for this Dark Devil Auto by Sweet Seeds grow. So far off to a good start with 100% germination rate. I popped 10 in case of a failure but all 10 sprouted so one pot has 2 seeds in case of a runt or early fail.
This grow will be a SoG and I don't intend to LST or top unless I have a girl or two which are way ahead of the rest. I've added a Botanicare 3' ID tray to simplify cleanup of the runoff as I plan to feed through 20% and doing that with 9 plants in saucers would be arduous.
I've ditched the Botanicare as my last grow was almost killed by salts buildup despite using an enzyme product. This time I'm going with General Hydroponics using the feeding chart from growweedeasy.
I'm planning on using neem oil as soon as I think the sproutlings can take it, as I'm sure the rust fungus which almost tanked my first grow is still lurking.
👉Day 6
Things seem to be going along. Both 8 and 9 have had issues. 9 had helmet head and 8 was late getting out of the soil due to my placement of the seed.
So far only fed water and have been going off of the soil color going lighter brown as it dries and feeling the soil with my fingers.
Chopping them tomorrow! (Day 79 beginning of week 12)
This grow won't properly reflect the growtime of this strain, as growing for the first time from seed rather than my usual clones, I under watered and under fed the plants. Due to me handling them overly delicately I stunted their growth by about 2 weeks I would guess. Then there was nitrogen toxicity issues mid grow as I didn't back off the grow nutes soon enough.
These plants don't show when their thirsty, there would be almost no drooping until they were really dehydrated (don't know if that's an autoflower trait), so check the soil, not the leaves.
A bit sensitive to nitrogen, I mistimed the transition off of grow nutes and gave them nitrogen toxicity. If you're going to grow this strain start your taper down of nitrogen as soon as you see the flowers forming.
Because of the slow start because of being too dry, and the sub-optimal finish because of nitrogen toxicity I didn't get to see the full potential of this strain, but despite both of these issues it looks amazing (4 out of 6 went very dark purple) and smells amazing (citrus forward with strawberry after notes).
I'm so into this strain! I'm going for a round 2 with my 6 remaining seeds so I can see their full potential.
Cut on day 79 and dried at 60% humidity 70f for 9 days (a little long, next time I think 7 or 8 should do).
Now curing in 5gal buckets with boost packs while I work through the trimming.
Pics will be added soon as the trimming is done, and tasting notes after the cure.
Plant #2 and #6 are finished trimming and pictures added, 4 more plants to go.
All Plants are finished and pictures added, tasting notes soon.
