And we're off! Very excited about this one. I hope the girls and boys from Rare Dankness are following along! It needs to be said that I've had (very) bad germination rates from Ghost Train Haze #1 feminised seeds and Commerce City Kush regular seeds previously. The last mentioned were a freebie and didn't germinate at all.. However, I've experienced the end product of GTH #1 that I did manage to harvest successfully as something of the very best I've ever tasted! I use carbon-filtered tap water and the 'hanging bag' method as promoted by Simon of Serious Seeds to get these seeds germinated best possible. I will let the temperature rise a bit to around 25-26 degrees Celsius.

They're in re-used BioBizz Allmix. They receive natural light at the moment before they will be transferred to the grow cabinet the coming week. pH is an estimate. Surface is being kept moist with a sprayed solution of carbon-filtered tap water and 2 ml/l BioRhizotonic. Update 15-11: 24 hour schedule with (bad) artificial lighting..

They remain quite light green. Doubled dose fertilizer to 12 ml/l Vega. Measured pH 5.6 which is on the low side but hope it will get them greener and stop them from yellowing. Omitted Rhizotonic. Increased light from 100W to 150W. D25: 250 ml Vega 8 ml/l, pH 6. D27: measured soil pH: 6.6> 250 ml Vega 12 ml/l.

As the pictures show I've found the right dose of fertilizer for SGT! The youngest leaves have been getting greener during the past week. Nr. 5 is clearly the weakest one. Will start sexing them in about a week. D35: watered 0.5 l, 20 ml/l Bio Vega

Amazingly, the best plant (nr. 2) is showing pre-flowers on a 18 hour light schedule. This one will be the mother to clone! Increased BioCanna Vega to 20 ml/l. They will receive 14 hours of light the coming week, mostly to see if nr. 3 also is a female. Nr. 5 and 6 will be discarded. D42: switched back to 18/6 as nr. 3 is also showing female pre-flowers.

Same challenges as I've seen several times now while using EazyPlugs. They root too little too slowly, even though pH is correct at 5.8, temp. and humidity are maintained stable at 22 degrees and 80-90% RH. The only mistake I can think of is that I perhaps left too much leaf on the cuttings... The first roots outside the cubes appeared after 8 days . As soon as seven days have passed the clones lose their vigour and they get a difficult time after being transplanted to the pots. I had to replace half of them a day after because they simply had no visible roots outside the cube. Watered on D5 (today). They will get a few days to start growing otherwise I'll start over with new clones...

Started a new batch of 11 clones as I'm not satisfied with how the ones in the cabinet developed. They grow slowly and have deformed new leafs. Using Rockwool this time with Clonex rooting gel and Clonex Mist to see if this makes a significant difference....

Ditched the new batch of clones in Rockwool as they didn't root AT ALL after 8 days. Perhaps they lacked sufficient light, perhaps the temperature was slightly too low... Overall, it can be said that SGT is difficult to clone. Reduced light cycle to 13 hours. Five out of nine plants look healthy and turned out the way I wanted them to become at this stage. The other one's have been struggling from the beginning. Will give some BioRhizotonic to pull them through as healthily as possible. Occasionally, have a humidifier on outside the cabinet as the air can become quite dry. Update 28-1: switched to flowering fertilizer with still only two bars on (100 W).

They've pulled through a difficult start quite nicely. Even the weakest ones show a nice bud formation. Will probably increase watering volume to 500 ml in the coming week. Will consider removing the lowest leaves. The smell is remarkably weak which I think (hope:-) is because of the Malawi landrace background!

Performed LST on the two slower pheno's that are finally showing the first signs of bud formation. Will start dehumidifying to get RH to around 45% around the clock.

The buds are developing steadily and so are its terpenes :-D. They're still smelling quite weak but the resin can be felt on the fingers upon a gentle touch! :-D Added some support to optimise light distribution to the lower buds. Added a 'shot' of Rhizotonic to maintain healthy roots throughout.

Added support to improve light distribution a bit. I don't expect too much of it, but it looks neat! :-) Increased fertilizer to 16 ml/l but I will decrease from now on as we are entering the plants' final phase.. Top leaves are curling up and I can only think of too much fertilizer as its cause. Temperatures are fine and even though they've grown quite close to the lights, based on my previous experiences, I rule light stress out as a possible cause. Neither are they over watered. "Defoliation" here means removing one big leaf to improve the lighting of a neighboring plant a bit. :-) Update 1-3: watered with 8ml/l Bio Flores.

They're still progressing quite slowly but they're steadily getting thicker so I'm not complaining :-). RD says this one ripens within 70+ days. I'm wondering what the + means... Reduced light cycle to 11 hours to quicken the ripening process the coming two weeks. Reduced fertilizer to 8 ml/l for the same reason.

Almost there, but not quite... Last week before harvest. No sign of amber coloured trichomes. Air has been unusually dry for the last month or so. Patience is key with this one; 77 days (11 weeks) and counting! The buds look amazing and are very heavy but they need another whole week to fully ripen. The slower pheno ripens at the same pace as the other. As the pictures show, it's a leafier and a much taller plant than the other six. Without LST it would have been around 70 cm high at this point. Remember, this is a clone in a small 4 litre (root-pruning) pot that has been flowered from day one! The sticky buds of the "slower pheno" give off a very pungent smell upon a delicate touch. It reminds of overripe fruit, not very pleasant actually :-). It will be very interesting to see how it develops after drying and curing. The aroma of the 6 other plants is very reminiscent of the Ghost Train Haze #1, it will probably translate into the taste of the end-product, which is absolutely delicious in my opinion. The buds are less sticky than those of the slower pheno.

Does anyone have experience with trimming off the fan leaves in the last days up to harvest? Specifically, does it speed up the ripening process?

Don't do it, she needs those leaves to make the energy she needs to finish flowering. Removing those leaves will reduce the amount of energy being made and will slow maturation, not speed it up! The theory that making a plant "think" it is being eaten so will make extra trichomes is botanically impossible and BS. A plant can only make as many trichomes as it is genetically programmed to, no more than that. If it were possible to make extra trichomes by doing something unusual, there would be books written about it!

Still not ready to harvest after 85 days.. Checked thricomes with loupe but only the sugar leaves of the lower, smaller buds show amber coloured ones. There are still many white pistils. Water as little as possible to practise slight water deprivation up to the perfect time to finally pick them.

Happy Harvest Day!

As mentioned before they were difficult to clone, meaning that it took more than 7 days for roots to appear, while the clones start to lose vigour. The only mistake I can think of is that the temperature in the dome was too low (consistent at 22 degrees Celsius). After a difficult start (lasted around 10 days) the huge stretch these plants have after being forced to flower, and thanks to the long flowering time of 70 days, they managed to thrive eventually and rewarded my patience with an amazing yield :-D. The claimed 70 flowering time is questionable. Taking their difficult start into consideration, I think they still would have needed at least 80 days to mature.

Actually planned to harvest on Sunday but after their last minimal watering yesterday, they deteriorated quite a bit, so I decided that the perfect time was today (1-4) instead. They ripened a bit unevenly, i.e. one of the lower buds showed a 'banana' flower which indicates over ripeness. However, all of the top buds still had some white pistils. The yield is quite simply amazing and probably a PR for me with the G-Tools cabinet. Dry yield could actually turn out to be around 200 g high-grade, organic Haze! I'm trying to keep the drying environment cool and dry. Can't control the humidity which is still very low at the moment (30% RH) but a steady and ideal temperature of around 20 degrees is achievable in current conditions. The pictures speak for themselves.. I'll keep you posted on the end product in a month or so. Update: am running a humidifier in the drying space to increase humidity to around 40%, ensuring a cool and slow drying process.

Shijo_Kingo
Shijo_Kingocommented2 years ago
@Otter93, It' amazing, but it takes a long time to develop. During flowering and after harvest they don't smell of much... I slowly dried and cured the buds at around 20 degrees C with a RH of around 50 to 55%. Put everything in glass jars after around a month but even then it takes another two months to reach its peak aroma. What you're left with is a sour, medicinal, herbal smell that translates to pine, licorice, grape and sometimes fruity notes in a Mighty vaporizer! The whole project took 6 whole months from start to finish but if you can wait that long, this strain is highly recommended!
