Hi y'all, if you've seen any of my other diaries, this unfortunately will not be as detailed. I'll be updating as time allows, and definitely the final results, but expect less numbers and more sporadic pic updates. Now onto the grow!
This will be my 3rd grow (DWCooler), so hoping I can utilize all my previous "lessons" to bring these beauties to their true potential. I decided to grow these b/c of the terps and the potential for high extraction yields. Sweet honeysuckle and strawberry resin...sign me up! Both seeds have "popped" and I can't wait to grow these out. Been feeling like an empty nester with my hollow tent.
8/29 - roots popped out of rapid rooters so ladies have been moved into their new, forever homes (aka coolers). Meet Sterling (Star Spangled Banner 3) and Beyonce (Queen's Banner)! Now we play the waiting game for the roots to drop below the netot. I'll be top feeding ...barely
roots have shown from net pots so i added some nutes. i believe I may have added too much water (even though still inches below netpot) b/c they're showing early deficiencies that look like overwatering? I always seem to get this exact thing happening at the same time. Oh well.

11/12: soo yea, messed up a bit and did a silly beginner mistake....forgot to recalibrate my pH meter. Upon, recalibration, I realized things were off by a decent amount, hence the deficiencies. I also added a bit too many nutes at first and caused a bit of nute burn on both plants (sorry ladies!). I clipped the bad leaves on the QB and diluted nutes with some distilled water to get back to a 375ppm (had jumped to 480 or so). Anyway, now that both of those have been taken care of, new growth is poppin off as it should be and is looking great! Root growth is also looking great on both plants. Unlikely to top QB b/c of all the issues, but SSB3 is still a contender for now if it keeps growing like this without pre-flowering by day 17ish.

Started some LST. QB developed a bit of cal-mag or manganese deficiency somehow, but a nute change seems to have resolved that issue. SSB3 WAS looking like a good topping contender, until I waited another couple days...and guess what...pistils! Soooo...yea, seems I'll have to wait yet again before I try topping. Anyway, back to good ol' LST and eventual ScrOG.

Well, who saw that coming? QB has blown ahead of SSB3, despite the root advantage, and is as happy as can be. The light intensity is pretty low for what I normally do at this stage, but these Banner crosses seem to like that. SSB3 didn't seem to take to training as well surprisingly, and growth slowed down a bit and the bud sites remained pretty small for a while. As of 11/30, they have just started to perk up (maybe from another recent nute change I did), but are still pretty bushy and tiny compared to the QB. I'm planning to put a ScrOG for the QB shortly, and hoping it continues stretching a bit more to fill it out. Not sure how SSB3 is gonna do, so will have to wait and see.
(edit: technically this should be a flower week since both ladies started showing preflowering signs)

I swear the ScrOG always motivates the ladies! QB is blowing up and almost taking up the entire 2x2 space by herself. SSB3 is looking much healthier than last week and has just started looking like pom-pom phase. Bumping nutes up to 580-600ish, and keeping the light intensity around 60ish% on both lights (raised the lights on QB since she's clearly more sativa dom. The SSB3 stems are THICCC. No distinctive aroma yet, aside from the normal initial weedy/plant smell.
12/3 - About to go on a vacation, so I've set up the extended coolers and did a nute change (same nutes i usually use if you want to see other grow diaries, just too lazy to add here again). Actually, i lied, one new thing i'm trying in flower is Sensizyme

12/10/21 - I just got back from vacation (extended coolers officially set up before) and I have no idea if i'm still on track with this journal, but I think it's day 42. Upon my return, I was greeted with an initial dusting of frost on the QB (and the fan leaves!). I'm excited for this one! Actually, what am I saying lol I'm excited for both! The SSB3 tops are looking like they're gonna big chunky. The cooler worked well during my absence, and they are still stretching. I wasn't able to really absorb the stretch more and utilize the trellis further, so I'm just letting them do their thing for now (aka no more training). Still defoliating for air flow though. Will be replacing (and increasing) nutes in both buckets shortly b/c they've been thirsty!

Alright friends, we're in autopilot stage. Although to be fair, most of this has felt like autopilot. QB is getting super frosty, even showing trichs on the stems, which is always a fantastic sign of things to come. SSB3 is starting to get some trichs, but nowhere near the frost level of QB. The terps on SSB3 though....ohhh, the terps. I can already tell it's going to be my favorite to vape on (I'm guessing QB is going to be the better rosin producer though). SSB3 smells like sweet menthol candy berries. QB aroma is harder to pin down right now, but it's mostly dank citrus. QB looks like it is finishing up quicker, so this most recent feeding will probably be the last

chugging along. SSB3 is smelling exactly like Haribo berries candies and i'm in love. QB staying frosty and fading a bit -- will ask a grow question as I'm not sure if this is an expected deficiency

Welp, ran into some issues with QB the past week :/ Still not sure exactly how they came to be but based on my growing question, potentially a potassium deficiency and maybe light burn. After raising the lights, dimming them a bit, and replacing the res with a more potassium-heavy mix, they seem to be more stable. It was pretty bad, taking over all the leaves directly exposed to light (see pics). Had to defoliate a lot and I'm sure this messed up the bud density during a crucial time. pH was on-point throughout and the ppm was still aligned to how they were drinking, so I guess it's just a lesson learned for next grow. The SSB3, on the other hand, is autopiloting beautifully and fading to a deep, dark purple (almost black). The smell is still intoxicating, so I'm glad I didn't mess that one up. The smell on the QB is hard to pinpoint, but not my favorite (citrus, musk, dirty socks). Hoping I can pull these plants through the finish line!

SSB3 fade still fading. Battling a little humidity b/c it's been rainy outside, so added a dehumidifier, but now temps are higher...it's always something. Thinking another week or two for both of them, but QB is kind of hard to tell

QB tester nug clipped, and likely chopping QB in a weekish due to all the issues, but also the trichs are looking close. Also, took a SSB3 tester nug several days after. QB is becoming a sour apple candy aroma and SSB3 is becoming more pine and methol dominant. SSB3 fade still looking as beautiful as ever

1/16/22 - ok, definitely missed some time in between these posts, but as of writing this it's day 79 and I just chopped part of QB! QB tester nug was great, but i'll have a more detailed write-up and separate post for the QB harvest. Really happy so far with how both of these plants have turned out.
