Germination

Greetings and salutations. This diary will be a second chance at growing this tester seed from Sweet Seeds, a Crystal Candy XL Auto. I've grown one once before, with minimal success. The plant stayed extremely short, especially with the LST I provided. This round will be completely untouched, in the way of not bending the main stem. Any LST will strictly be to space out lower branches. Defoliation will occur along the way, and will be used extensively if the undergrowth becomes to wild to control without it. Diary Legend: 💧- Watered 🌱- Seedling 🌲- Cut Down 🍃- Defoliation ✂️- Topping or FIM'ING 🚂- Training (LST) 10/31/21: dropped seed in water 11/2/21: seed split, placed in paper towels 11/5/21: seed ready for planting, will do that later this morning. resting in a rooting cube inside the humidity dome. 11/6/21: nothing visible yet, but I'm sure it's doing fine. 11/7/21: 🌱Seedling is now above the surface. Still only in the cube, as I will plant it later today with the others.

Diary Legend: 💧- Watered 🌱- Seedling 🌲- Cut Down 🍃- Defoliation ✂️- Topping or FIM'ING 🚂- Training (LST) Wk1 11/7/21: Day 1. 🌱Seedling is now above the surface. Still only in the cube, as I will wait until tomorrow to transplant. Since the seedling is in a cube, I can go ahead and premix the nutrients into the soil, only needing to topdress at the time of flowering. 11/8/21: Day 2. 💧🆕🏠Transplanted cube into some very moist soil. I covered the top of the cube with soil, and watered down again. Placed humidity dome over seedling, to help prevent it from drying out. This is my first attempt at repotting a rooting cube, hopefully it goes well. True leaves are now showing, and will begin spreading out in the next couple of days. 11/9/21: Day 3. Looking good in its new home. True leaves are coming in nicely. So far it seems I am doing alright with my first Autoflower transplant from a rooting cube. If this goes well, it will be my new rooting method, as I can skip paper towel all together, and just plant right into the cube, then plant into premixed soil. Soil is still moist, so the humidity dome is working well. 11/11/21: Day 5. Leaves are finally making noticeably moves outward. Still well in the seedling stage, and hasn't quite went into full veg mode. Pot is still astonishingly moist, it's as if I watered it several times since the planting, when in reality, I haven't given it anything at all. No need to worry though, as I recently had a plant do the exact same thing, and it is now the best looking plant that I have ever grown. 11/13/21: Day 7. Plant is doing alright. I can see the leaves starting to spread, about time. The pot is still phenomenally moist, and it's weird, as I have it on top of the heating mat. I put it there to try and help speed up the drying process, but it doesn't seem to be working. Oh well, I'll just wait and see how it goes from here.

Diary Legend: 💧- Watered 🌱- Seedling 🌲- Cut Down 🍃- Defoliation ✂️- Topping or FIM'ING 🚂- Training (LST) Wk2 11/14/21: Day 8. Still waiting for that damned pot to dry out. Next time I'll remember to only water in the cube, and not make the pot as moist as the cube, just keep the dome moist. Growth is picking up, so that is nice. Still a long ways to go. I'm hoping my, overwatering, didn't cause the plant to be stunted. I say overwatering with hesitation, as I haven't added anything in for a week. It should have dried by now, not sure why it isn't. I double checked to make sure the drainage holes were not blocked, so that's not the issue. Oh well, just one for reason for me to stop using these facacta pots, and just use my smart pots. I will also give the air pots another try, as I never gave them much of a chance before. I know they work, I've seen it's result first hand. I just can't stand the slow speed it takes to water. Even smart pots can be watered at a pace I can handle, I do not find them difficult at all. 11/16/21: Day 10. Dang pot is still holding moisture. The top layer is finally showing signs of drying out, and the pot is definitely lighter. Still a long ways to go before I'll water again though. The only good news is, the plant is growing out nicely now. Took a little bit to get going, but it's now growing at a very noticeable rate. I do see a few leaf tips either losing colour, or getting nutrient burnt. I will monitor the situation over the next few days, and report any changes. 11/18/21: Day 12. Growth is still looking good, except for the leaf burns on the tips of the larger leaves. Looks like another plant that needs less nutrients. We will see what it does overall in the next few weeks. I'm sure it will be fine once it starts to drink up more water, which will be any day now. The pot is feeling much, much lighter than before, giving me a good sign that it's finally taking up the excessive amount of water I transplanted it into. 11/20/21: Day 14. Plant is still alive, for now. Marks on the leaf tips indicate something is wrong, but I have no idea what. Pot is finally drying out, now that the plant has enough roots to absorb it all. Still not yet needing a watering, as I'm going to wait until it is completely dried out before I even feel like watering it again.

Diary Legend: 💧- Watered 🌱- Seedling 🥦- Vegging 🌷- Flowering 🌲- Cut Down 🍃- Defoliation ✂️- Topping or FIM'ING 🚂- Training (LST) 💩- Fertilized 🆕🏠 - New Home (transplant) Wk3 11/21/21: Day 15. No visible change from yesterday, but I didn't look very hard. I'm sure I'd see something if I compare pictures. I'm hoping to be able to water the plant normally in the next few days. I'm just glad it didn't die. Once pot is dry enough to be watered, wait another full day, just to be sure all water is gone, and allow the roots to air out a bit. I guarantee I stunted it, as it should be a lot bigger by now. Oh well, that tends to happen when you overwater seedlings. I can't believe I did it to be honest, I didn't even think about it as I watered the pot down. Kind of confusing though, because it's recommended to wet the soil first, before potting the plant. I guess it's a different story for me, as nothing has ever been easy. I think I'm going to take the long wooden skewers, and poke them in the dirt, to allow airflow down into the roots. This should help with the drying out process, as it's literally the same technique used on golf courses. Not surprisingly, the technique is know as "aerating". 5:45pm Aeration complete. I should feel a difference in weight shortly. Hopefully I can start watering soon, as I'm sure they would like something fresher than 2 week old mud. 11/23/21: Day 17. Aeration was definitely a good idea. While the pot isn't fully dry, it certainly sped up the process. I will be able to water again in a few days. Hopefully the plant keeps going strong. It seems to have slowed down it's growing, so I think it's going to be another little fella like it's older sister. This time I won't be doing any training though, as I don't care if it's a tree or a bush, not when it's this small. I don't see any pistils, so it's not like it's switching over to flower mode. Maybe it's on the verge, and will spit those pistils out soon. Oh well, still looking forward to see how this turns out. I can't remember how long I let the other plant go for, so I can't judge based on that. I know one thing is for certain, this plant will not be harvested until it is fully matured. No more harvesting early for comparison, that was a silly thing to try. 11/25/21: Day 19. Plant is now popping pistils, just as I had expect that it would. Pot is also now light enough to warrant some water. I will administer that later on this afternoon. The deep green colour of the leaves tells me it's absorbing the nutrients well, with no signs of issues. The marks on the lower leaves, I believe were a small sign it wasn't getting nutrients, as it was barely growing, not reaching the nutrient rich soil. Now that it's growing fast, it had time to absorb the goodness that Gaia Green provides. I will be topdressing with the bloom nutrients soon, as I need to keep to a schedule, and cannot rely on waiting until the plant tells me it's time. By that point, it will already have been too late. 11/26/21: Day 20. 💧 Watered the plant today, since I forgot to last night. Growth is looking great, definitely turning out nice. My next run will be grown in a smart pot, or an air pot. I will also be more careful, and make sure I don't stunt it from the beginning. 11/27/21: Day 21. Plant is doing great, the aeration definitely helped a lot. I watered yesterday, and today it's already much lighter. The dark green colour of the leaves is amazing, I love that shade. The plant has now switched over to flower, which was likely caused my the watering issue causing stress, and not the small pot size. Last time I grew it in a 5 gallon smart pot, and even that one was early flowering and very short. At least this time the size is relative to the pot size, so it doesn't look like a dwarf plant. I'm scheduled to give the plant some more nutrients in the next few days, so that should be interesting. I will be using a combination of nutrients, as I don't want to have the same issues as the other plants. I will also be adding some cal mag into the watering this week, just to make sure it has some. I believe that is a major factor what happened to my previous plants, so this time I'll be ready.

Diary Legend: 💧- Watered 🌱- Seedling 🥦- Vegging 🌷- Flowering 🌲- Cut Down 🍃- Defoliation ✂️- Topping or FIM'ING 🚂- Training (LST) 💩- Fertilized 🆕🏠 - New Home (transplant) Wk4 11/28/21: Day 22. 🍃Plant is doing excellent right now, even though it's flowering early. I removed the large fan leaves, as they were huge and blocking a lot of lower growth. It looks funny now, the leaves made it look like a much bigger plant, but without them, you can see it's just a little feller. Once it's further along into flowering, I will remove any other large leaves from the bud, to promote it fattening up. Not a technique I've used before, but one I'm looking to adopt. If it works I will do it from now on, as it will save me from needing to do any trimming during harvest, only after drying. 11/29/21: Day 23. 🚂Decided to do a little LST, but not a permanent fixture. I only want the branches spread out for a few days, for the stems to harden a bit more, then I will pull the staples, and allow it to grow out from there. Was it absolutely necessary, not at all, I just didn't like how close the branches were to each other. I had also angled them slightly askew, so they all get light. Other than close branching, the plant looks amazing. Still a beautiful shade of green, which I hope stays throughout the grow. I'm going to add more nutrients tomorrow, but at the modified version of a 50/50 blend of All Purpose and Power Bloom. After three more weeks, I will add a 1/3 ratio, with more Bloom this time. If I need an additional boost, that last one would be straight Power Bloom.

I watered yesterday, as it has been quite some time since I had given anyone some moisture. I will be giving the plant some bloom nutrients in the next day or so, bit still providing some All Purpose as well, so as not to lose so much nitrogen, like the autos have been lately. The dark colour of the leaves is amazing, wish I could achieve this with all other autos. 12/11/21: Day 35.🍃💩💧 Procrastination is a bitch, but I'm getting over it again. I defoliated, fed nutrients, and gave it a thorough watering today. I fed with a mixture of All Purpose and Power Bloom, but unfortunately I forget the exact ratio I used, as I did some heavy smoking yesterday, so I'm drawing a blank. I had also moved the pot into the other tent to finish up, that way it frees up the other tent to start my testing runs.

The plant responded extremely well to the defoliation I did last, and the plant is now just a big cluster of buds. The main cola keeps getting thicker and thicker. The one lower branch has a cola tip that split into two, looks very neat. I hope it doesn't develope any bud rot there, since it's so tightly packed. There are trichomes appearing all over, but slowly. Even though it's small, I have a feeling this will yield quite a bit for a small size. I will be letting it go as long as needed, that way I can see it's fullest potential.

Either way, I'll be sticking with both for future grows.

How do you like the Gaia green? I’m using the same nutrients as you but never used anything else yet. Have you tried any other nutrients before and had better or worse luck
