Let’s Grow… 👊
What’s on the menu today: Big Tuna!
First of all, like to say thanks to @Pilchards for the tester seeds. I’m a little late getting at it, but here we go!👍
Big Tuna:
“- Big Yielder -
MKUltraCut
OGKushxG13
Indica Dominant Hybrid
Flowering - 60-65 days
Bold aroma, pungent herbal scents, rounded up by an earthy menthol feeling in the back of the mouth... Like a California Burrito after surfing - sometimes size does matter, especially when it comes to Big Tuna.
A good old efficiency mix. Dense flowers that kick in heavily, even though their size suggests rather little effects. Everyone who considers quality and quantity to be of equal importance, will be impressed by Big Tuna consistently.
Stable beach beauty delivering what it promises. Taste wise, Big Tuna likes it spicy. Even after a proper flush, there is still an underlying spicy note in the back of the mouth.
Everyone who prefers flowers fruity, will love our big one nevertheless.
The yield is just too good to ignore with this big fish.”

Germination:
-18Hr soak
-Placed in paper towel… usually use coffee filters.
-Approximately 35Hrs, roots were about ¾ inch long.
-The reason behind using coffee filters… I had some seeds root right into the paper towel. After removing as much as I could, some of the paper towel had to be planted with it. Not sure if affected the grow since I was very Newbie!😀
-Two out of the four germinated for me.
-Placed seeds in solo cup under 75w LED for 2 days
-Moved seedlings under the 👉UF2000.
-Watering: Maybe 30ml...
-Mist 2/day
-Temp 25C
-Humidity 62%
Grow Room:
3x5 Area

UF-2000 by Unit Farm. Thanks @UNITFARMLED_Justin
Kryptonite soil (Living Soil, Super Soil)
Just add water
Pro-Mix Organic Vegetable and Herb Mix
Perlite
Mix 1:1 and add ½ cup of perlite/2 cups soil.
I try and water the mix 2-3 days before seed goes in, that way the soil has plenty of time to activate and be ready to go!
Not much else to add… until next week!
Happy Token! 👉😵👈
Great Start to the week!
Once I moved the girls to the UF2000 light, they certainly took off. One of the BT fell over, so I gave her a little support.
I am a little surprised on how fast they are growing...😲 When the leaves touch or go over the edge of the solo cup, that's when I usually transplant. That usually happens on week three, but here we are.
The roots are looking healthy white, just not as many as I expected... easier to transplant when there is at least a little root ball.
Prepared the pots... Filled 1/4 pot with Kyrptonite, then a mix of Pro-mix and Kyrptonite to finish it off.
Ratio: 1/1 cups with 1/2 cup Perlite.
What I have learned from using kryptonite is having to transplant twice. First pot for Veg, Second pot for Flower...
-Solo cup to a 2 Gallon pot
-Train as needed (I like to mainline)
-2 gallon pot to a 7 gallon fabric pot.
-Switch to 12/12 on second transplant so there is enough nutrients for the next 8-12 weeks.
Left Big Tuna (and her cousins) under the UF2000 for a couple more days for recovery.
Moved them to the main Grow Room (4x5) and under the BP4000.
Gave the BT's about 1/4 cup of water on transplant then 1/2 cup of water when moved to main room
Water is at 7pH from tap, and the soil will regulate it... 6.4pH
Thanks for stopping by!
Happy Growing! 👉😁👈
Wow!😲
The girls doubled in size from 3 to 6 inches in a week... actually, one of them is almost 7 inches!
Their leaves are nice and green, but there is a little bit of wind damage on a couple of leaves.👍😕
4 fans in the room, 2 oscillating and 1 stationary and one exhaust... had to adjust fans so the wind is on the girls to strengthen them, but not take damage.
I have noticed the girls are taking on their own characteristics... one of them have fairly tight nodes, while the other one are a lot farther apart.
As you can see, the girls are already showing the fourth nodes... that means the topping/mainlining will be starting next week... when the 6th node is showing.
The heat in the room is staying a little high... girls don't seem to mind it yet, but as the colder weather comes, it will be easier to regulate between 20C -24C
I'm fighting with the humidity right now...😡 sometimes it's dropping into the 38% range. I do have a humidifier going, just struggling to keep it consistent in the 40%-50% ranges.
Watering is now at 1 cup every 2-3 days... depending on the heat/humidity on watering day...
I adjusted the light around 20-22 inch range. So far no light stress.😀
That's all Folks!!!
Happy Vaping! 👉😀👈
Training Week! 😎
Love when this week comes around!
I really like the mainline training... I have done it pretty much on all my grows. With no to little mistakes, you can get some real nice quality and quantity from this training. 💪
When I see the 5th to 6th node, that's when I know to top at the 3rd node. In the past, I would try and clone the tops, with a little bit success, but this time, I'm just going to try and clone the first couple of nodes... BT#1 was no problem, but I slipped a little bit and lost one arm at the 3rd node from BT#2.😖 I have done this before...😂, so I now turn this into a four arm LST training... I'll keep the two arms on the 1st node, keep the opposite arm on the 2nd node from the 3rd...
from here on out, I'll just be doing some lst and defoliation...
Before the week was over, I had to top BT#1 again, so now she has four arms starting the new week...
Should be a fun little test between phenotypes... who will give more???😅
- BT#1 will be 8 arm mainline
- BT#2 will be 4 arm lst
Both girls were watered mid-week and last of the week...
- 500ml each both times.
- The soil regulates the pH of the water...
- Tap water... 7pH
Humidity is still down lower then I like, but doing my best to keep it at 45%
I dimmed the light down a little bit... just to help with the heat for now...
Let's end it there...😁
Happy Smoking! 👉😀👈
Great Week to go Fishing!😜
The Big Tunas are catching some serious sun! With the size of their fingers... no wonder they're growing so fast.💪 BT#1 is going through some heavy HST as of late, meanwhile BT#2 is sitting back, gently getting her arms stretched.
BT#1's week:
-Got tied down...
-Only got 750ml of water...
-Got topped...
-Got tied down again...
-Finished the week off with just a splash of water (750ml)...
BT#2's week:
-Gently stretched out...
-Had a warm drink (750ml)...
-Flourished a bit...
-Gently tighten down on the stretch...
-Finished the week off with a good stiff drink (750ml)...
Geez... both scenarios look fun... 😂
The temp has been better since it got cold outside.
It's a good 24C
Humidity still lower then the 50% I would like to have...
Besides that... great growing week.
I guess this is where we go in separate directions...😜
Happy Growing! 👉😀👈
WooHoo Week! 🤯
So, this week, we have a lot going on... It started with recovery, but quickly turned into growth spurts everyday. 😲 Did a little clean-up on BT#2... she not as healthy as BT#1 is... not sure if it from shock... everything in the setup is identical.
Their phenotypes are showing through big tuna time.🤣😂 The girls have some similar looking leaves, but for the most part, definitely different!
Mid-week the girls got transplanted into their forever 7 gallon homes. Added perlite to the bottom for better drainage. Using fabric pots really helps with drainage and watering too. BT#2 was getting a little root bound (forgot to take pics), so her new home should bring her around.
By the weekend, BT#1 took off!🚀 Her 8 arms are growing so fast, I have to turn it up a notch... extreme bondage!!!👍 Have to try and keep the girls growing the same height. Plus, don't want to out grow the grow room.😁
There was a lot of watering this week... even though I felt like I was over watering the girls. Each one had 1 litre of water at the start of the week, then 1.5 litres with transplant. and to finish the week off, they each had 2 litres... 1L from the top and 1L from the bottom.
Temps stayed great! Around the 24C mark, but that humidity... struggling to get it to 40%. It will be great when the girls are flowering... which they might be getting switched next week. 👏
Alright, lets wait for next week.
Happy Potting!👉😎👈
Quiet Week!😎
These girls certainly like their new home. By mid-week, they're recovering great.
BT#1 has no issues... just straight forward growth... 14 inches tall... after all the training.. Bt#2 is getting her full green back. I stopped her at 4 arms but I will let some satellite arms come up through the canopy... Those satellite arms will be lollipopped as well as the four main arms.
On Dec 12th, I put them into 24 hours of darkness... I find it really helps with the 12/12 switch.
I wanted to wait an extra week, but the size and quick growth of these girls... but they gave me no choice... can't have them out growing the room!😲
Big Tuna drank pretty good this week. 5 litres each in total. 3 litres from the top and 2 litres from the bottom.
Temps stayed around the 24-25C mark.
Humidity at 35%
I try and give them a misting twice/day due to the stupid low humidity... but I'll be liking that low humidity in 8 weeks time!😁
Now it begins...
Happy Flowering 👉😀👈
BAM!!!👊
Just like that, the girls stretched like nobody's watching...😄 I'm really happy to switch them to 12/12. I have this feeling they might be big!
BT#1 has exploded... least that's what I see... she has 8 main arms and a shit ton of satellites arms making up the canopy. After a few weeks, I'll give her a good defoliation and remove everything below the canopy.
BT#2 has this really dense look to her... she has the 4 main arms, but as the pic shows... there are a lot of satellite arms poking through.
Both girls drank 7 litres each. 4 L from the top and 3 L from the bottom. From now until finished, I will water them mostly from the bottom.
Temps are pretty good at 24-25C. Humidity is around the 40% now. Struggling with night time temps... getting as low as 16C for the first few hours then I can get it up to 18C.
The light is about 18 inches away... so far I haven't seen any negative effects so we'll keep it there.
With the first week of flower behind us, let the stink begin!!!😂
Happy Flowering 👉😀👈
BA-BAM! 👊
I shit you not... Big Tuna grew 14 inches in one week!!! I had to rearrange the girls twice just to fit BT#1's big ass in the room!😅 BT#2 is not as big... but both of them need a really good defoliation. I removed leaves throughout the week, but at the end of the 3rd week, I think I'll really strip them.
Temps: With a wind chill of -25, you would think I was smart enough NOT to forget to set the thermostat... Well.... temps dropped as low as 12C... Thought for sure I f@ck3d them... 😡 Both Big Tuna and Sapphire Scout seem to take it like a champ... it certainly didn't slow down BT#1. Temps are now stable at 24-25C in the day and 16-17C with lights out.
Humidity: There's still a fight with it... low as 29% and high as 40%.
Water: The girls picked up the pace... both drank 9 litres each for the week.🙀
The new arrangement in the grow room certainly helps air flow with BT#1 being out of the way of the fan. Right now, BT#1 is about 16 inches from the light... so far no negative effects... makes it harder to raise the light because of the short girls...👈 Not sure if BT's are slowing down, but I'm starting to run out of room with the light...
So far, I'm really enjoying growing these nice ladies... thank you @Pilchards ... Big Tuna is certainly Big!!!😅
Happy Stretching 👉😁👈
Week of the Defoliator! 😝
Big Tuna keeps on growing! Another 10 inches... officially the light is as high as it can go without taking it apart and replacing the hangers... which I will if I have too...😁 Their cousins, Sapphire Scouts, are only half their height and I had to raise them up higher to keep them even with the light. I place my hand on top of the buds to feel the intensity of the light, making sure it's not going to burn them.👌
The amount of leaves and beautiful arms (nodes) I had to remove, would make some growers just cringe. If they're not getting much light, all they are doing is stealing energy away from the ones that are getting the light... so lets strip them! 😂😲 I'm just amazed the amount of bud sites there is... and now getting tons of light.
Temps: Not sure what to think... -25C windchill to +5C rain in one week... quite hard to keep things consistent. Then, you add my forgetfulness to keep the heat on or shut off in the garage... what do ya do???😐
Humidity: For some reason, this is staying a little more consistent... hanging around the 43% range.
Watering: Both girls are still drinking 9L of water per week... pretty much watering every two days.
The bud sites look fantastic on both girls! BT#2 is not as tall, but possibly have could have bigger buds then BT#1 due to tighter node spacing. Their white hats are starting to turn into beautiful little puff balls... oh the joys of growing!!!😍 The stink is starting to get strong... not sure what it resembles... besides skunk... 😂
Until next week my growmies!
Happy New Year!!!
&
Happy Growing!!!👉😎👈
New Week... New News!!!😂
I'm really loving this strain!😍 Big Tuna is proving she is a big, beautiful girl that would definitely love to grow outdoors.🌱 The girls grew another couple of inches... which means they certainly slowed down their growth from last week. They are about 16" inches from the light... so I had to raise the light a little bit.
This is the final stage before I have to take the light hangers apart to get more height... As any grower, I would love to have more upward growth, but STOP... just get FAT!!!😂
Temps: Temperature is finally alot more stable then the previous weeks... Holding all week around 25C in the day and 19-20C at night. When the girls have about 2-3 weeks left, I'm going to open the dampener, and should be able to get as low as 12-13C at night... that should make them finish a little faster... and maybe get some color.
Humidity: It's hanging in between 30%-40%, which is perfect for me... I'll try and get it lower when the buds really start tightening up.
Watering: Big Tuna's were thirsty this week! Each one drank 10 Litres of water for the week... up 1 from last week. BT#2 is not as tall as BT#1, but she drank just as much... we'll call her the liquor pig...🤣😂
I did remove more leaves and arms that were below the canopy and had no hope in hell on getting any light. I'll probably do one more big defoliation around the six week mark... then I'll stop pruning her... I promise!🤣😂😅
BAM!
Happy peace piping! 👉😁👈
Ba-Bam! Week #5 😁
The Big Tunas are looking fantastic!😍 One girl is quite tall and the other not so much... but, BT#2 is stacking real nice... I'll try and get some good pics of her... this week BT#1 took over the photo landscape.😂
From the start of the week until the end, the difference is certainly noticeable... The white hats are starting to look solid... and the stink... can't really identify it in the air since there is multiple strains... but when you rub their terps... BT#1 smells absolutely sweet... almost candy sweet...😍
Temps: The room is sitting around the 26C in the day and around 20C at night. Once again, I'll drop those temps at night when they are closer to being finished.
Humidity: It's sitting in the low 30's most of the time... if it gets to low, I'll add some moisture but not too much... don't want bud rot...👈
Watering: This was an interesting week with the girls... BT#1 had 9 Litres of water (down 1 from last week) while BT#2 only had 6 Litres (down 4 from last week)... I guess she just wasn't as thirsty as her sister. I'll keep an eye on her. In the coming weeks, I'll probably start adding some blackstrap molasses to help the soil... these girls are going to really start gobbling up the organics!😀
I'm still removing a leaf here and there, but more than likely, I'll give them a good defoliation next week... Bring on the strippers!!!😲
Over and out!
Happy Munchies! 👉😆👈
Week Six!
We'll start this off by saying... "Nanners"... Yep, I found a couple of nanners just starting to stick out...😡 Now, they are only on one of my tunas... The big tall girl, BT#1. I believe they came from a combination of heat and light stress. There was one day the temps hit 28C... and with BT#1 that close to the lights... pretty sure that's the cause. BT#2 is growing great with zero nanners.
I gloved up, sterilized the tweezers, and careful plucked the nanners and got them as far as way from the all the girls... hopefully nothing got in the air and I end up with seeds...👺
Temps: Staying good at 25C... expect that one day of 28C.
Humidity: Still up and down... ranges from 23% to 39%...
Watering: Ba-Bam!!! The girls increased their water intake this week!😍 BT#1 drank 14 Litres, while BT#2 drank 12 litres of water. Mid-week, I gave them a treat by mixing Blackstrap Molasses with one of their waterings... actually, it's for the soil, but the girls benefit for it as well.😁 2 Tbsp (30ml) of BSM to 1 gallon (4 L) of water.
Defoliation: I hesitated on giving BT#1 a defoli... I didn't want to add any more stress to her, but there were a lot of big fan leaves that were taking up way to much energy. The Big Tuna's life span is about 60 - 65 days, and I like to give one more defoliation before the last 2-3 weeks... so both girls got stripped!😜
Bud sites are fairly tight, not overly large, but each one should hold some weight. They still have a sweet smell when you rub their terps... just not sure on the over all smell. I'll figure it out next week. 😂
That is all...
Happy Nanner Hunting! 👉😲👈
Week 7!😎
What a difference a week makes! BT#1 is almost finished up... that's almost two weeks early.🤯 Her sister, BT#2 is chugging right along though... looks like she new the assignment!😂 BT#1 still has clear trichomes, but also alot more amber then I expected. Now, that's the eight main arms... there still is the lower satellites that are mostly clear. I might end up topping the eight arms about a foot down... and leaving the lower growth to finish up... we'll see how next week goes.👈
I haven't seen anymore 'Nanners' since I plucked seven in total. I was worried about pollen being everywhere, but every one I removed was small and that made it easier to control... I don't think I busted any open... and I have seen any seeds forming on any of the plants in the room. Let's hope my luck stays good!🍀
Temps: Holding strong @25C in the day... 19C in the night.
Watering: Interesting week on this front... BT#1 only want 12L this week and BT#2 only had eight... Not sure why the decrease, but I'll blame it on the defoliation... Damn you Defoliation... 🤣
Humidity: Hanging in there under the 40% area...
I'm a little surprised from BT#1 trying to finish so soon... I wasn't expecting this much difference between the girls... but of course there has to be one to mature quicker then the other.😁 I might be harvesting next week... woo hoooo!!!😂
Alright! Ya's had enough...
Happy Harvesting!👉😍👈
Week of the 8th!👊
BAM!!! It's all about Big Tuna #1 this week! She finished up so fast... the excitement must have got to her!😂 She is definitely a little different from her sister. I'm not sure if the mainline stressed her out to much, because that is the only thing I did different between the girls... BT#2 only has four main arms.
Also, BT#1 got "nanners" while BT#2 did not... and "nanners" are usually caused by training stress and heat stress. Both girls have the same smell though... some earth undertones and when you take a big whiff... you get a menthol taste/feel in the back of the throat! Yeah Baby!😍 Can't wait for the first taste!😁
Temps: Daytime 25C and Night 19C.
Water: BT#1 had 4 litres of water 3 days before chop and BT#2 only drank 7 litres this week.
Humidity: It dropped down to 35%.
One of the things I like about growing organic is there's no flushing... you can if you want to... I have tried that as well, and I didn't see or taste any difference. Now, I'm also a wet trimmer. I have tried trimming dry before, but wasn't a fan. Maybe I dried it wrong, don't really know, but I found wet trimming seemed to dry better and smell better in the jars! So that's my jam!!!👈
I got eight beautiful 💪 with some lower buds that has a wet weight of one pound... no leaves, just bud and stalk! When BT#2 finishes up, I'll add all the weight together at that time. As you can see from the pics, there is lots of amber and even the lower buds gain some ground in the cloudy department.👌
The drying room has temps that are around 18.5C and I added a humidifier to get the humidity up to 50%. In the past, if I could keep the temps and humidity like that for 10 days, I found that everything taste/smells/looks better... 👈
Next week, I believe/hope BT#2 will be ready to join BT#1...🙏 and maybe I'll sneak a taste of the uncured BT#1😁
Smoke Safe!
Happy Harvesting! 👉😀👈
Harvest Week! 😎
BT#2 is ready to go!!! After spending an extra week in the room, BAM!!!
Her leaves started turning colour, amber trichomes everywhere, sticky AF!😍 BT#2 main arms seem to be a bit thicker, that is because we went with four arms instead of eight.
Right now, I not sure what the best training method would be for these girls... I guess we'll break it down...
Eight arms proves to produce more... Four arms have thicker buds...
Eight arms finished early (maybe stress related)... Four arms finished on time...
Eight arms did get "nanners" (stress related)... Four arms did not...
Eight arms acted/looked like a Sativa... Four arms had more of a hybrid look (Indica leaning)...
So, my final thoughts on training... plant two seeds and do it both ways!!!😂👈
One thing I like about growing organic is there's no flushing... I have tried that as well, and I didn't see/taste any difference. I also like to wet trim. I have tried trimming dry before, maybe I dried it wrong, don't really know, but I found wet trimming seemed to dry and smell better in the jars! So that's my go to!👈
The drying room has temps that are 16C and 20C and I added a humidifier to get the humidity up to 50%. In the past, if I could keep the temps and humidity like that for 10 days, I find that everything taste/smells/looks better... 👈
I'll come back with an update when everything is dried, weighed, vaped and man-handled!😂
Happy Harvesting! 👉😎👈
