At the end of the week I noticed the tips were starting to turn white. Good first week - going to start nutes next week. Have a fan blowing on the girls on low to try and strengthen their stems.

11/13 - Added nuts for the first time - leaves started to look a little off. Some brown spotting occurring - not sure why, nute burn? Ph levels off? Leaf tips look like they took on light burn - leaves started praying/curling - reduced light to 50%. I think I overwatered with feeding of nutrients. Not sure what PH levels are in water - could be contributing to leaf changes. PH test kit coming in a couple days 11/14 - they all seem to be perking back up. Charlene took the biggest hit - she looks like she’s stretching and had some severe light burn. Definitely stunted her growth. 11/16 - PH controller kit finally came. Turns out my PH levels were super high. Have PH under control now, but soil was still moist from nute watering. Camille’s soil was really the only one that needed water. 11/17 - Removed Charlene’s large bottom 2 leaves since they were brown and crispy. She’s also stretching pretty hard, so I moved her closest to the fan to try and slow her vertical growth and strengthen her stem. - will try to fix her stretching when I transplant into larger containers. 11/18 - In the morning, I noticed Camille (my tallest/strongest gal) has some white occurring on her secondary leaves. Light was only 18” from her leaves. Raised the light to 22” above her. Trying to balance the different heights right now and the distance from the lights. Still only running 50% power on the lights. 11/18 - evening - I decided to transplant my girls from their 1 gal containers to 5 gal containers. Hopefully I can fix Charlene’s stretching by doing this and I’m hoping these babies start to really take off. While transplanting I noticed how shitty the soil was that I started with. Should have used FoxFarm Ocean from the jump. I read a bunch of articles and I used a 25% perlite mix with the FoxFarm Ocean potting soil. I wanted to transplant now, in case I shock them before I feed them nutrients again. Next 24 hours will tell a lot. 11/19 - after research and trying to pinpoint exactly what was going on, I’ve come to the conclusion that I have a potassium deficiency. Not sure if it was a good idea or not, but I gave them nutes today. I’m hoping new soil and some nutes might bring these babies back to life a little. Fingers crossed. Idk how much to water them now that they’re in the 5 gal containers. Trying to gauge it the best I can. I also turned my lights back to 100%. I feel like I’ve been screwing up a lot this week, but I’ve also learned a lot. Hoping for some better results next week.

Experiencing some deficiencies/light burn/heat stress. Says SSH likes hot/moist climate. Plants are planted in FFOF Soil, fed them 15oz of nutes yesterday. Using advanced nutrient systems, see above. Light is a SF1000 LED meant for a 2x2 tent. Would that burn them hanging at 20”?

Hey there Dr_GrThumb , yeah so basically FFOF Soil is "potting soil" except there's actually no soil in it. If you look at the ingredients it's actually Peat Moss. Peat Moss is "mined" in marsh lands , it's a sort of unsustainable aternative to coco that holds water for longer, so it's actually a soil LESS medium... strange but true i've seen it a thousand times, even made the same 'mistake' myself. So what happened is the amended peat moss was a bit too hot for the plant, hence the burnt tips, also it lacked micro nutrients , hence some of the discoloration, it holds water for longer hence some challenges to get the watering right. The good news is you're adding nutrients, careful on the NPK, keep feeding micro like it's a soil less medium , you might want to switch your additives like B52 and voodoo juice out and replace with humic or fluvic acid once you reach flower , but appart from that, the problem will fix itself now that you know about it. Hope this helps ! 🚀

11/20 - need some help out there from my fellow growers. Experiencing some deficiencies/light burn? I honestly dont know at this point. Plants are planted in FFOF Soil, and I just fed them 15oz of nutes yesterday. Using advanced nutrient systems. Any advice, suggestions? 11/21 - I appreciate all the folks who took the time to answer my question. Good news, I think….checked on the ladies today and it looks as though they’re perking back up. Camille and Molly specifically are showing new growth at the lower end of the stem and at the top - shown above. - I’ll take that as a win from yesterday. 11/22 - The girls are definitely experiencing stress/nute deficiency, but I’m hoping with the advice from all the answers I received we can get back on track. Trying to have patience. Nute lockout is making its way upwards which isn’t good. Fingers crossed they can handle it and get back to growing. 11/26 - girls have made a strong come back. Original plan was to switch them to flower end of this week, but because of the stunted growth I pushed them a week. Also decided to feed only water till next Saturday.

11/27 - no nutes this week, only water. 12/1 - girls are looking GREAT plan on flipping them next week! 12/2 - trimmed up the girls for my first attempt at SOGging, fed them a bunch of nutes/water and flipped the timer to 12/12. Going to let them do their thing for a few days.

12/7 - Came back to my girls after being away for a few days. Before I left I gave them some nutes and water to hold them over. To my surprise the girls look great! I didn’t have any nute burn this time and my leaf color is rich and green in color. Individual plant updates:Camille is looking BEAutiful, her stem is incredibly strong and she is 12” tall. Topanga/Molly/Charlene are all around 8” still, but their stems are too looking strong and healthy. I hope I’m not going too crazy with the SOG method. Trying to clip the larger leaves and taller side leaves. Being new at this, I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing is always right. Learning in progress. 12/08 - according to the much appreciated advice from my growbies, I defoliated these babies too much probably stressed them out yet again. Leaving them alone for awhile now. May raise the shorter plants with some bricks to try and even out their growth.

1 of my 4 plants is roughly 4” taller than the other 3. How can I even out their canopies so all 4 are the same? Trying to use the SOG method in 2x2x5 tent. Also how much defoliation should I be doing using the SOG method? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

It looks like you pruned them all the same at the same time (not doing anything to grow them to the same height). If you had a time machine I would go back and prune to maintain the same height, like top the tallest plant. Now, I would just raise the shorter plants up on bricks. This also has the benefit of better drainage and allowing airflow to the bottom of your pots.

12/15 - the girls went through another shock at the beginning of their flower stage due to me clipping some larger fan leaves when I should have left them on. Regardless, I let them alone for the most part this week and they seem to be doing great. Finally starting to see buds forming. Exciting times. 12/16 - loving my first experience of growing. Learning a lot for sure, but seeing buds for the first time is so cool. Even if I delayed the process a few times lol

Growing SSH in a 2x2x5 tent with 4 plants wasnt a great idea to start. Doing SOG method. 1 of 4 is really small n budding schedule is behind but she is budding. Should I pull her to maximize the others? Tent is tight n need my humidifier in the tent. Not sure wht to do. Thoughts?

OK your in flower so you want humidity between 40 and 50%. I would try poking humidifier through a side sock vent so its outside the tent, that's what I do but only when in veg. Good luck

12/26 - Missed out on a day of photos due to the holiday but man I couldn’t be happier with how these girls are looking. I appreciate those who told me not to pull my smallest. She is budding like crazy and her petiteness may benefit me in a few weeks. They are growing very fast and I’m honestly loving my first experience. 12/27 - have my light hanging on a tilt so the smaller plants can be closer to the light but the taller ones aren’t being light burnt. Seems to be going well. Charlene has really sprouted and is now almost as tall as Camille.

01/21 - Molly and Topanga for whatever reason look further ahead than Cami and Charlene. Going to be harvesting in the next couple weeks! Very excited for my first harvest. 01/23 - Microscope showing up tomorrow, find out pretty soon if Molly and Topanga are ready. I don’t want to over due them but if the trichomes are right, I’m going to pull them.

@CRiSPrGrow, definitely dont think you’re being hard on me. I’m a rookie who’s made mistakes already so any and all the help you’ve given me has been great and I sincerely appreciate it. I initially defoliated them because I was worried about 4 plants in such a small space. That was the first mistake of the grow. So then I was looking into techniques that would give me a decent yield but wouldn’t allow the plants to grow ‘wild’ per say. It said to try SOG method, so I did, but even with that I think I went a little crazy on the snipping. I wanted to try SCROG or LST but again without experience I didn’t know the right route to go. LST I was worried the plants would get too wide and SCROG, I was worried they would get too high. So I tried this. (Clearly not the best idea) My next grow will only be 2 plants and I certainly want to try a new technique. Auto-pilot they go. Just going to continue to feed and water from this point out. Again @Dasboof I greatly appreciate your help man. You’ve been great. Thanks again and have a safe and Happy New Year!
CRiSPrGrow
CRiSPrGrowcommented3 years ago
@Dr_GrThumb, yeah man, look, i'm not being hard on you or anything but basically your plant is already a stick, the more you prune the less you have. for yield you're really trying to grow a bush , so less pruning in general is the way to go. if you remove a leaf the plant will make a leaf. right now you want your plant to make bud. there's a lot less shade when you close the tent as well, there's probably less shade than you think. next time try to LST you'll probably double or triple your yield. in flower you want to be on autopilot more than anything, less stress more flower. just my best advice for you if you ask five growers you'll get five different answers for sure.

@CRiSPrGrow, was hoping you could help me out. If you look at my latest picture - do you think I should trim those larger fan leaves that are blocking the light from my smaller budding nodes? - any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot!
