My last grow had 5 plants going & overwatered once & believe had some runoff that the plants sat in. I suspect this damaged them pretty significantly. One of the plants came out amazing, nice dense strong nugs. The other 4 plants have airy nugs not dense at all. What caused this?
Hi there Jlive, i'm quite sure this has to do with airflow and temperature. Different genetics are sensitive to that stuff in different ways. What's interesting is you can get different climates even inside the same tent. Make sure you have proper airflow also inside the tent to make sure the conditions are even and stable. it's harder than you think : if you measure at different places in your tent you'll see you can have quite a lot of variation. What you need to measure is the difference between the ambient temperature and the leaf surface temperature. you're looking for numbers like -2 or -3.... what you probably had last time was something like 0 or -4... something like that ... It's not a common question to ask. Hope this helps ! 🚀
Today marks day 5 since the seeds were put in soil. 4 or the 5 have taken off and 1 of them is a bit off looking. Not sure if there is anything I should do to make her happier.
Only watered with a spray bottle using 6.5 PH water.
Soil: Happy Frog potting soil, added worm castings to the mix.
One seedling is very underdeveloped compared to others. Happy Frog potting soil w/ worm castings added in, light is 18" away & on day 5. Humidity: 40% Temp: 75 - 78 f but I had a sandwich bag over all the plants to up the RH. New humidifier RH 70% temp 75 f no sandwich bag anymor
Guess we are all different and it happens with the plants too.
For them to die something bad must happen but if you keep taking good care she'll grow like the others.
Also worth to note that at this phase, as you refered, the plant needs high RH. On the other hand for the roots to grow faster it's convenient that the soil doesn't stay humid too long. It's always a matter of keeping the balance.
I like to use bigger pots at start and I'll increase gradually the space between the plant and water mark in the surface of the soil.
Good luck
Nutrients are mixed into a 5-gallon bucket of dechlorinated water. Used Ph down and up to balance.
Moved plants from red solo cups into 5-gal fabric pots from Vivosun and watered around the plants. One of them tipped during watering just kind of fell over. Water got away from me. Hope she is okay.
P1/P2 are in FFOF and P3/P4/P5 are in HF Potting Soil. Wanted a good comparison to see which I prefer. I plan to veg for 4 to 5 weeks then switch to follow. Will use a trellis net a few weeks into flower.
P1 is small but seems to continue to develop.
P2 looks to be growing well.
P3 has a small bit of yellowing on the ends of her first set of leaves already. Unsure what might cause this so early. Should I feed cal-mag?
P4 same as P3
P5 is tall and green. Looks healthy.
This is only my third grow. Documenting mostly for some assistance along the way.
Update -
12/4/21: Watered all plants about half a cup of water each.
P3 is still not getting root-bound and fell over while watering. She is still growing so no concern yet.
P5 is showing new growth but still very slow compared to the other plants.
12/7/21 watered all plants a little more than .5 cups. Growth looks good on all but P5 height. Gonna be the runt of the liter I think. Hopes she still shines.
Not sure honestly what a good seedling should look like. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
P3/P4 in my active grow seem like they are missing something. Any ideas? PPM of 300 with SLF100, some Great White, and Recharge in 5 gal of dechlorinated water, PH 6.47. Might want cal-mag?
I have a 5 gal bucket of dechlorinated water, ph 6.5 and ppm 300. Watering seedlings to the bucket is going to last a while until empty. I wasn’t thinking when I made it up. How long will this be okay to water with? I have bubblers in it and keep it covered.
12/10/21 day 17 a bit early to call this week 3 but close enough for me. Plants are growing strong and look healthy. The soil dried out last night so I water this morning just a few minutes ago. Used store bought molasses, some slf 100, and cal-mag in my water. I think next water I am going to bump the ppm up to 750 or 800. Plant 5 is still growing extremely slow. Had new growth but barely any height to it compared to the other 4. Might not top this one when it comes down to it but will top the other 4 end of week 3 or start of week 4.
12/15/21 day 23 updates -
Lots of new growth might be ready to top the tallest P2 soon don’t want to get to tall and start messing with where my lights should be. I have limited lights so I am trying a different approach by angling the lights slightly to make sure full penetration. By late flower I hope to have 1 or 2 more lights in the setup or a larger more powerful one.
A node is where side leaves (and later on new branches) appear. You usually should wait until 4-5 nodes have formed, unless you want to do some hardcore HST. Do not count cotyledon leaves as a node.
12/21/21 day 29 start of week 4 -
Plant height is around 7 to 8 inches except for P5 sitting at 6in.
Used about 1 gallon to water all 5 plants this time around. About to add in some plant risers to keep them off the floor more and out of any standing run off water.
No signs of any issues other than some minor light burn on P2. FIM’d P2 as well on day 28
12/23/21 day 31 - defoliation on all plants completed. Lots of internal growth that had not had enough light. Should recover now that the massive fan leaves are gone.
Topped all plants with 1 cup of worm castings and 1/2 a cup of both alfalfa meal and crab meal then watered 1.5 gal of water between all 5 plants
Added a tower fan because I was high and forgot my fans weren’t ever hitting the plants.
12/23/21 - heavy defoliation and lst completed.
12/27/21 - watered with dechlorinated 6.25ph water added cal mag and some recharge. The heavy defoliation does not seem to have upset the plants moving forward. Last night I moved the plants to 12-12 to switch to flower.
Topped the soil with 1 cup of worm castings and half a cup of crab meal and alfalfa meal
1/6/22 - watered heavily 2 gallons split between 5 plants. Next week will add scrog netting
1/10/22 - added scrog and did some defoliation on plants P1 and P5 they aren’t flowering yet like the others.
P1 top is 14 in from light majority of bud sights are 17”
P2 is the tallest and it is in the net which is 15” from the light
P3 top is 13” from the light and majority of bud sights are 17”
P4 top is 16” from light and majority of bud sites are 20” from light
P5 top is 17” from the light majority of bud sites are 19” from light
Something is going on with P3 and P4 having some burn of sorts on a few leaves. The highest leaves do not have light burns only the node down. Unsure what I should do about this.
The others look perfect and we are starting to get quite a good smell as well!
No major updates this week. I am watering 2 gallons between 5 plants still about every 6 to 7 days. The molasses added to the water is just store bought.
Bumped lights from 80% to 100%
Buds smell amazing!
Bumped lights from 80% to 100% on 2/2/22
Watering 2 gallons between 5 plants every 4 days now.
For watering I am doing a 30 count move to next plant 30 count move. After doing that twice I switch to 10 count until water runs out. I do this because the recharge and molasses like to settle at the bottom. Making sure it is distributed evenly.
Buds smell amazing!
I am going to harvest Monday 2/21/22
Going to water first thing tomorrow morning and lights out for 48 hours starting Saturday night.
Comment your favorite harvest method! Best RH and temps :)
This was an amazing way to track the progress and will do more grows in the future. Amazon people part of an amazing community. Most questions answered within a day or 2.
The harvest is dry and totals 158 grams from all 5 plants dry not wet weight.
