TL DR; The UH got some bananas, but I believe it’s my fault (too cold), and I am keeping her.
So, while taking some pictures of my ladies, everything was fine and dandy until I noticed some peculiar yellow spots on the UH . . . As it turns out, she seems to have sprouted some naners :( . My educated guess is because of cold stress; the water temps are quite low, as well as night time temps (14 and 16 C respectively). The evidence to support this is that the UH leaves are turning purple (week 7 has some clear pictures of the purpling), and obviously the temps have been recorded to be quite low. The SLH seems to be taking the cold with no issue, but that’s because she is the smaller plant as well as not being a bit more off centered from the intake fan. Not only is the intake fan blowing in cold, outside air but at the same time, the airflow generated blows away the heated air from the lights.
Normally, people would blame the genes for the naners but neither of the 2 runts have bananas, and they are the furthest from the intake fan (so less airflow blowing away the heated air generated by the lights). So I came to the conclusion that, since the UH#1 lady is the biggest plant in the tent and positioned the closest to the intake fan, she is taking the brunt of the cold temperatures and it is too much stress for her, therefore the bananas are MY fault and not necessarily the fault of the breeder. I have taken clones of the UH#1 lady, so next grow I will have 2 x UH#1 plants, and can test whether it is genes or just because of the stress factors I allowed the UH#1 lady to experience (yes, I studied in the BSc field, so I approach things with an open and enquiring mind haha).
Since the UH#1 lady is basically ¾ of my green canopy, I decided I will keep her and grow her out. She has 5 weeks to go, and a lot of the pistils are already turning red (aka they won’t be able to accept pollen), and there is always the off chance she is firing blanks :) in the mean time, I will keep plucking out the bananas as well as monitor the situation for any seed development.
On a side note, I changed up the nutrients a bit to reduce the nitrogen content of the solution and get in more PK.
👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👻
How is this your first grow lmao - your set up and technique is mad pro! I'm learning! looking forward to seeing those esthetics once your ladies really start to bloom!
@Dabout,
Ayyy she is 👌👻
While I was extremely displeased with the germination rate (1/4 seeds 😠), this lady turned out magnificently! She is stunning, and it's a pity she is stealing the limelight from the UH 😂 But, she is in the front and only having 3 main colas means she is focusing everything into them.
@MUDBUG,
I just bought them from the hardware store. I made the light from scratch; took me 12 hours but worth it for costing US$ 70 👽👌 I cut away the plastic covering these lights had to expose the LED chips.
@LeeTHaze, I have to say you've done well! You've entered a hobby at full force but like you said you planned it out! Glad to see you creating a feed and it paying off too! I'll keep following! Good luck!
@CAMOGROWN,
So I may have got a lot of things right (due to my prior preparation + research), but I still got a number of things incorrect 👻but I am a first time cannabis grower so I'm not too fazed, I will simply learn from my mistakes.
PS; I am a keen gardener. I have had many a successful harvest of herbs and vegetables 💪 so that does help a lot as well haha.
