Im growing in cocoloco, big perlite, natures living soil(supersoil). I soaked the cocoloco in cal/mag water for 2 days. I put the seeds in wet paper towels and stuffed them in a zip lock. Put them in a dark place and 24hr later they were cracked. I then put them in 7 gallon pots watered with recharge(1/4tsp. Per 1/2 gallon). 24 hr later they're both popped out the ground. I've never grown indoors, or in such amended soil. I've grown outdoors for 3 seasons now but I never had seeds germ this quick. I'm growing it for my stepdad. He wanted Hawaiian, but I couldn't find it. I'm growing organic but I wanted to know if organic taste better then synthetic. So I'm running 1 MW with synthetic nutes and the other with organics.I'm also growing nyc diesel, and ethos crescendo #16 x headband. organics. Crescendo rbx1 is probably my favorite bud since we used to get sour d that smelled like dead people.. I'm hoping to mainline, then run the plant into a screen. It's my first Crack at indoor, wish me luck.
Well I'm new to indoor growing and it shows. I guess I had the light turned up too high. In a hurry, I must've glanced over the part about 50% dim. They showed a little bit of lightening around the edges and were curling the tips down a little. Hopefully I didn't hurt them too bad. They're growing faster then any other plant I've grown. They're already working on the 3rd set of true leaves. They started with 1,3,5 leaves. The cotyledon are still green. I hope turning the light down to 50% and removing the domes will help. I underestimated the power of these lights. I put my seedlings out in the spring sun to bo I'll effects so I figured these couldn't hurt it.
The too close lights didn't slow them down much. They're much happier now. I had 80° temp and 50% rh. After reading about vpd I put the bowl/towel in and closed the vents. It jumped up to 86° and 78% rh. If I turn the inline fan on it goes to 84° and 55%. If I open bottom vents 84° and 60%. Basically the only way I'm in vpd range is shut all up, fans blowing, but 86°and 78% seems kinda high. I'm watering 2 days. Only about a half gallon for 6 plants. I only water the 10" diameter around the stem. They're growing a new set of leaves every 36 hrs or so. Top growers in the tent by far. I turned the light back to 80% from 50% yesterday. I plan to mainline the plants, and I might weave them into a scrog screen after. Tbh I'd rather be growing outside, I'm not liking playing God. But in flower I'll probably be saying the opposite.
I topped them both on 12/16, then lst the new branches down. I waited for 6 nodes to grow out and topped down to the 3rd node. Stripped every growing tip below the manifold. I'm leaving the leaves and removing the growing tips. I'll let them go to 4 nodes and top back to the 2nd, removing the tips below the 2nd node and lst the branches sideways/down. Removing the tips really seems to help focus all the energy on your new "tops". I'm leaving the leaves for now to help fuel growth. I'll remove them when I drop in the screen. I tried my hand at cloning too, they aren't dried and shriveled yet so it might work. I put them in jiffy pellets. The 2 plants leaves look about identical, so hopefully they're the same phenotypes for my organic vs synthetic home experiment.
They were topped for the 2nd time on 12/26. I'll let them grow to the 4th node then top above the 2nd node. I'm removing the growing tips below the 2nd node. They're growing great. No problems as of yet. 2 more toppings and I'll drop the screen in and flip the lights. I'm hoping the manifold will distribute energy evenly across the screen. I really like the structure of the mainlined plant, I've already decided my outdoor plants will all be mainline this year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the growmies.
I broke my phone and lost a few weeks of pictures. I topped for the final time on Jan 3rd. Don't skip any cal mag if using coco based substrate. I looked to be cal deficiency after not using it for a few watering. I started using it again and they're good.
Built the screen from cedar and nylon twine. I set up a grid pattern to run the 8 branches in the there own rows. Except the outsides. They be supercropped and run 180° back in the row next to it. It's my first attempt so I'm kind of winging it.
Well I ran into root aphids on all my plants. I used neem oil/dawn dish soap first. It just passed them off. Instead of being on the soil they were hanging on the fabric pot. So I bombed them with h202. Then I mixed in diatomaceous earth. Thick into the top 3 in of the soil. Yes I broke some roots but oh well. I will say the roots look great. They're bright white, with tons of mycelium. Then I mixed up a pyrethrin drench and treated 1 plant. It didn't seem to harm the plant but it killed the crawlers. I'm treating the rest with it tomorrow. And wiping everything down with bleach or peroxide. Ill do a complete sanitization once they're done and I move back outside where I belong. They're starting to smell a little bit too. I took clones from all the plants and 16/19 rooted. Even though they were 4" tall when I took them. I gave them to my friend. I also gave him my autos. I feel like he owes me
These are taking to the screen with ease. What I thought were root aphids, were actually soil mites which I read are beneficial. So I treated my soil for nothing. It seemed to do minimal damage but it did kill the mites. Watered with recharge to hopefully replenish the microbe population.
The plants are growing right along. The only issue I have is knowing which branches to tuck and when. Also I should have made the squares smaller. Like 2"×2", and not weaved them but just ran the main branches below the screen.
It's starting to get crowded. The mw has longer interludes so not as many growing tips as the other plants. I'm not sure when to flip but I defoliated them today to expose all the tips. I'm flipping the light sometimes this week
I've been using the miracle grow syn. Notes at like 10% since about week 6 on the synthetic plant. It also gets recharge and some of the cold war nutes. I feed 2x per week. I let them go until they looked thirsty, which was 4 days. So then I just water every 3 days. The organic looked by far the best out of all the plants. So I'm guessing it could go 4 days without water. I've been removing leaves almost every day. To expose budsites. I stopped 4 days before the light switch on 2/20. Then I'll defoliate about week 3 or 4 of flower. By counting the squares. I'm 84% full. I've got 2 wall mount fans coming 2850 cfm. I'm gonna mount 1 to the poles with zip ties. Then build a ramped shape mount to screw the fan to under the canopy. So I'm 12 weeks from seed. The scrog may take up all your grow space but 22 weeks is an outdoor grow season lol. I probably cost myself a few weeks though. Hopefully the yield will be worth it.
Both stretching out. They're gonna fill in the remaining spaces. The recharge turned my soil into snow. The roots aren't into the living soil yet so well see how that goes.
They have long interludes, hopefully the buds will fill the void. This seems to be a good candidate for scrogs.starting to smell and pop the 2nd set of hairs.
They're getting thicker and stickier. Trichome production is awesome. I'm constantly defoliating these girls. But it's helped with bud production since buds aren't covered up anymore.
I can really see the difference in the plants now. They smell different. 1 smells like pine sol. The other has an earthy skunk smell and is denser/frostier. I gave a tin of clones to my buddy. He's confirmed what I'm seeing. So 2 seeds and I get 2 phenos or do they just throw seeds in a bag and call it maui wowie?
Plants are growing well. No issues to report. If you look at the buds you can see the difference now. Hopefully they're both fire but I couldn't recommend this strain becauseyou don't know what your gonna get. It seems the frostier mw would be great for scrog but who knows if you'll get that pheno(or strain?) Well I'm all caught up to date now. They say 8 weeks to harvest but I see atleast 2 weeks left. They just popped a bunch of straight white hairs. In my experience when it's close to harvest they stop shooting hairs or if they do they're little tufts of curly hairs. Here and there
Both look pretty close. Should be ready this week sometime. The skinny pine sol pheno is closest to done. I cut a few testers this week. Should be dry soon.
They're both closing on the finish line. They're still popping white hairs and haven't swollen yet. I'd say another week and they're done. The back mw looks and smells superior. But the front mw is starting take form.
Since I have 2 phenos, I named 1 banana diesel. It smells like bananas and turpentine. It's super sticky and dense. The first time I smoked it, it kinda made me foggy eyed and cracked my head wide open.
The other pheno is skunky and sweet. Not as sticky or dense. Really nothing spe ial about this bud. I prefer the other pheno.
