Germinated in a clean 100% cotton washcloth. I NEVER use paper towels. You never know what additives are in them.
As soon as the seed caps split, I put them in small 1" rockwool cubes. There was one "buckethead" but a pair of tweezers fixed that.
Rockwool cubes were put in a generic dome and checked daily until I saw roots penetrating the rockwool.
I actually germinated 6 seeds. All 6 worked and I kept 2 in the dome just in case. Didn't need them.
Once roots were breaking through the rockwool, they went into the buckets. I'm using black 5 gallon buckets with 6" net tops.
Put about a 1" to 2" layer of hydro ton on the bottom, sat the cube in the center and covered the rest with more hydro ton to cover and stabilize. (Rinse your hydro ton)
Exactly 4 gallons of water just barely submerged the bottom of the net which allowed the hydro ton to wick up just enough solution to hydrate the roots.
I have to point out that I'm using ROUND air stones. They are 4 inches in diameter, 3/4" thick, and perfectly disperse the bubbles in a round 5 gallon bucket.
This week was simple. Didn't change anything.
Haven't changed the solution yet.
Roots were dipping into the solution and I scooped some out to give a slight air gap of about 1".
Roots have to work for their money otherwise you get a spoiled plant.
18-6 light schedule.
Water change time.
So this is starting week 3.
Following the GH aggressive feeding schedule for flora nova grow, I'm using 6 ml/g.
PPM came out right at 1150.
I have an extra bucket and air stone that is sterilized in bleach for 30 minutes then rinsed thoroughly to help with the change.
Added some reflective tape on the lids to help reflect some light back, but more importantly to reflect some radiant heat away from the buckets.
Ridiculous amount of growth this week.
7th node was starting so I cut it back just above the 5th.
Getting close to next water change.
Cut the tops and also the laterals that were too close to the hydro ton.
Those are going into the cloner with some Hormex #1
Water was getting low so now is as good a time as any to start the phosphorus load.
New nutrient solution is 1/2 and 1/2 GH grow and bloom. PH ~5.8
Two new lights should be here today. So that will be 4 lights @ 600 watts total. One for each plant. All LED's
I will probably flip these plants this Friday or so. I have the headroom but this is my first grow.
I could top again but I want to take it slow.
I also have clones rooting now.
Started the flip January 2
Complete solution change on all 4 plants tonight (January 4th). 4 gallons of water in each bucket required 30ml of Flora Nova Bloom and 8ml of Hydroguard.
PH on all buckets came out to almost exactly 5.8 without adding anything else which was nice.
I did top one more time. The laterals were still catching up and the main branch was still out pacing them.
Now everything is nice and even and should play well with a SCROG.
Clones went stupid with the amount of root growth.
Great week. A very definite push in volume!
I changed the Solution out maybe 4 days ago and all my plants were running low.
Topped them off with the usual Flora Nova Bloom at 1200ppm and PH of 5.8
Can't believe they drank a gallon each in 4 days.
root temps are steady at 68 and tent is at 72 degrees and 50-60%.
Wanting to try some yeast and sugar in chopped gallon jugs to up the co2. Maybe next time.
Defoliated 5 days ago and amazing recovery. Pistils everywhere. Added CO2 at ~2 CFM from a 20lb tank that I finally got hooked up today. Was using yeast and sugar for the last week. unsure if that made any difference.
Nutes haven't changed.
PH was slightly low after adding nutes and needed a tiny dose of PH. Weird because for the last few solution changes, the PH was spot on.
PH of city water was lower than normal so go figure.
When I topped my plants, I put them all in the cloner along with everything else that was 2 nodes or more. Now I am over run with clones. I've even gave some away lol.
Had an accident in the tent. Stupid liner in my tent slipped and I also slipped. Squashed about 1/3 of my biggest plant. This was over a week ago and she is recovering fine. Bigger isn't always better right?
Nice colas starting. Have a few that are taller than the rest on each plant so I'm guessing my lights suck, or I need more. Been doing a little rotation.
I'm beginning to realize I should have flipped 2 weeks sooner. Trying to manage a 3-4' plant in a 4x4 tent isn't easy for DWC when doing changes,
For top offs, I have a submersible pump that I use with the extra bucket I have to make everything easier.
CHECK YOUR AIR STONES!. I use the big round ones, but they do get clogged and will need cleaning. I originally had 8 to rotate out with 4 plants.
The dogs got 3 of them and I broke the stem off of one. Anyways a soak in mild detergent and thorough rinse will fix them up back to new.
Heavy defoliation at week three flower and the plants pretty much gave me the finger and were right back where they were a week later, so no more of that.
I saved the popcorn off of the broken branches from my "accident" and the ones I've been pinching off. The high is not what you would expect from GG4 as they were immature buds.
Definitely all upstairs. Kind of like taking Adderall and Xanax together maybe? Ate like a little piggy and slept like a baby though.
Gonna be some sticky stuff! (I hope)
Trimmed a few leaves here and there. Nothing new. Growing as well I as I could hope.
Lots of white pistils and clear trichomes. Hoping for another 2 weeks.
One thing I would mention is about buying old nutes. I usually buy from my local hydro shop, but I bought some off of Amazon.
Lot's of solids. Measured my TDS before a water top off, More than double What I started with. Checked with 2 meters.
I'm figuring the solids went back into solution making the TDS higher.
I would look to get that room a bit warmer for sure, You will end up with some very nice dense caked buds off these ladies with these temps for sure! only problem will be somewhat losing out on size, If we get a bit warmer in there we can get the best of both worlds. Keep up the great work friend
Looks good man. Your lights on temps are a little low. 72 at this stage of development will cause slower growth and smaller bud site formations. The first 4 to 6 weeks high 70s to low 80s will help make much larger buds. after that lower temps of 77 and 10 degrees less at night will help form them up nice and dense and you will get much more resin production. Keep up the good work ! Also look into getting a PAR meter and a thermal gun to read your plant tops and get the maximum potential from your equipment.
