Wooohooo! After a long break, it's finally time to grow again!!! I'm so excited as I have dearly missed growing. However, I will up the stakes by running two grows simultaneously this time around. My tents are small, though, and only have a couple of plants per tent, so it should be fine. I'm growing in living soil based on my own blend, which essentially is a slightly modified coots mix with added biochar and mycorrhiza. I use red clover and alfalfa as cover crops, and I will be using only water with some compost tea on a (semi) regular basis throughout the entire grow. I've upgraded to larger pots in my main tent and will be running an experiment with small pots in the smaller tent. Besides the pots, I've added WLAN sockets to my tents as they both allow remote control, and I can ditch the light timer. I also did a complete rebuild of both tents to get rid of stuff that annoyed me and to improve usability and workflow. When you have such small tents, you must maximize the space by utilizing it as effectively as possible. I will grow a 1:1 CBD:THC photo strain in my main tent. I'm growing it primarily for my girlfriend, who has an autoimmune disease, but I have to admit that I also have an ulterior motive: to get her more involved and interested in my hobby. I had her pick out which seeds from the pack, and after 24 hours of soaking, she planted the seeds today. So far, so good. 😉 On the other hand, I will grow some Autos in small pots in my smaller tent as an experiment. I want to see if it will be possible to take an Auto from start to finish in such a small container without feeding it any additional nutrients besides the occasional compost tea. D1 - Yesterday I put the seeds into a glass of water and left them for 24 hours in a dark place. Today it was time for planting but I'm a lazy bugger and have no patience to deal with up-potting so I always plant directly in the final container. I like to roll the soaked seeds into Mycorrhizal inoculant before planting as well as adding some to each seed hole. The soil itself is inoculated since previously. After planting, I placed humidity domes on each pot to create a better microclimate for the seedlings.

D5 - BOOM! We have lift-off. Well, at least partial as the first girl is still shy and hiding underground. I'll give her a couple of more days to show herself before dropping another seed. Fortunately, I have one more seed, so hopefully, that one will work if the first girl is a no-show. I adjusted the light to 60 cm (about 24") above the canopy and the dimmer at 40%, resulting in 300 μmol/m2/s at canopy level. A bit high as I usually keep it around 250, but it should be alright, I think. I also put in a humidifier to keep the humidity around 80%. It's a tiny humidifier but still works well as the tent is tiny. Unfortunately, it only runs for 8 hours, so it needs restarting a few times throughout the day. Not a big deal, though, as I work from home and am usually around. I really should get another Inkbird controller to automate the whole thing, but for now, this works. D6 - Man. Stood up! The left girl, #1, never showed up. I was initially going to wait another day but got impatient and went full archaeologist. I managed to locate the seed, and it had cracked, but that was it. Nothing was growing out of it. I pretty much expected as much considering that #2 is about 5 cm (2") tall by now and stands as erect as a teenager at a wet t-shirt contest. I already have a new seed soaking in water to be planted tomorrow. She'll then be six days after the other girl, and while probably noticeable at first, I don't expect any real problems during the grow. Hopefully, it'll germinate, but if not, c'est la vie. D7 - After soaking the seed for 24 hours, I rolled it in myco, and planted it in the first pot. However, I removed and replaced some soil in the center of the pot before planting, just in case something was wrong with the soil. Fingers crossed that this one will germinate just fine. On the other hand, the second girl is doing her thing just fine. I removed her humidity dome, though, as the RH in the tent should be high enough.

D13 - BOOM! The new #1 had made her modest appearance. Only the top of the seed is visible so far, but it's a start. :) #2 is moving along nicely, quietly doing her thing. D14 - #1 is still shy and hasn't fully emerged yet, but she is at least poking up more than yesterday, so there's progress at least. #2 is doing great, and I like her structure. Short and stout with large leaves and very short internodal spacing. She is 7 cm tall but already 11 cm wide. I also cut back the cover crop as it was getting a bit wild and partly overshadowed the girls. Since starting the grow, I have yet to water the girls properly, but they did get a little bit a couple of days ago when I had some extra after watering nematodes (against fungus gnats) to our regular houseplants. Better to be proactive than reactive ;) D15 - I started a simple compost tea consisting of worm casting, rock dust, algal limestone, bentonite, biochar, and molasses. I'll leave it brewing overnight, and then it's watering/feeding time tomorrow. D17 - No idea what is going on with the first girl, but it sure isn't much. The seed has maybe emerged for another two millimeters from the soil, but that is it. The seed hasn't cracked, and no leaves are visible. Hell, I can hardly see the stem. Yesterday, I gave each girl about one liter of the compost tea that I started a couple of days ago. Let's see if that helps, although, at this point, I kind of doubt it. As always, I completely forgot to check the pH of the tea. I have no idea why I keep forgetting that with my teas when I have no problem checking the pH when I use plain water. Oh well. Not the end of the world but something I need to keep in mind for the next tea in a couple of weeks. The second girl looks great, though, so that's something at least. D20 - Alright, it is official. The third girl died as well. The seed never cracked, and the stem went limp. I have no idea why this happened, and now I'm out of Colorado Cookies seeds, so that's that. I have already planted another seed to see if the problem persists with another strain. I will make a separate diary for that one, though. On the positive side is that the remaining girl looks strong and healthy. She is now 9 cm tall and 18 cm wide on this last day in week two of veg. Upwards and onwards!

D21 - Last girl standing. She may be all alone in the tent, but she is thriving and looking healthy, and I hope to have another girl soon to keep her company. I gave her about 0.5 liters of water @ pH 6.1. D24 - The girl is thriving: 12 cm tall, 24 cm wide. Short and stocky like Cartman. I switched the light from about 40% to 60% yesterday, and I'm now reading around 500-600 PPFD at the canopy level. On the high end for sure, so let's see how she handles it. However, the daytime temp in the tent jumped up to around 30 degrees C after I switched the light. #tinytentproblems D24 (part 2) - Alright, it's only been a few hours, but it is clear that she REALLY didn't enjoy that sudden increase in photons. After some hours under the more intense light, I checked on her, and she displayed several signs of light stress, such as her leaf edges curling upward ("taco"-ing) while the whole leaf was drooping. Clearly, she wasn't happy, so I dimmed the light until I saw around 430 PPFD at the canopy level. She is "sleeping" now, but I will check on her tomorrow to see how she reacts. D27 - Today was the last day in week three of veg. I think she is already going into pre-flower, and she already has a faint smell to her. She is 16 cm tall and 28 cm wide. I haven't trained her yet but will start doing some LST next week. I also started brewing compost tea (worm castings, neem meal, kelp meal, biochar, rock dust, algal limestone, bentonite, and molasses) which I will leave overnight and feed to her tomorrow.

D28 - The first day in the fourth week of veg. She is now 18 cm tall, and I'll start doing some low-stress training this week. I trimmed the cover crop today as it was a bit all over the place. I gave her around 1.2-liters of the compost tea I started brewing yesterday, and for once, I remembered to check the pH and adjust it to 6.5. Yay, progress! D31 - Today, I finally got around to doing some low-stress training. I should have done it ages ago, and I don't even have a good reason for not having done it, but hey, better late than never. Right? D32 - She is bouncing back nicely from the training yesterday. Starting to smell a bit so I got the active carbon filter installed. D34 - The last day in the fourth week of veg and the final day as she is in flower now. I did some more LST, as well as defoliation and cover crop trim to increase airflow.

D35 - The first day in the first week of flower. She was getting thirsty, so I gave her 1.2-liters of water @ pH 6.2 and, as always, she drooped after. My old humidifier died on me, so today, I got a new one. It's a smaller version of the one in my other tent, and it is the cutest little thing, but hey, it doesn't need to be mighty for that tiny tent. I also got a new Inkbird to keep the RH constant. I already use one of those in my other tent, but I opted for the WiFi version this time. I shouldn't have bothered, though, as all it does is display the RH but doesn't allow the app to control the Inkbird. Pointless as I already have remote temp/RH monitoring. D40 - Today, I did some more LST and light defoliation to ensure proper airflow. The canopy shadowed the leaves I removed, so they weren't contributing much anyway. I've increased how much light she is getting since she is in flower, but I have to be careful due to the younger Chocodope girl in the same tent. Currently, I'm reading around 650 PPFD at canopy level but will increase that over time until I hit about 900 PPFD. Finally, I gave her about 0.6-liters of water @ pH 6.5. D41 - The end of the first week of flower, and all is well.

D42 - The beginning of the second week of flower, and all I did was tighten the LST wires. D43 - I opened the tent today and realized I forgot to fill up the humidifier last night. The RH in the tent was only 29%. Oops! I gave the girl about one liter of compost tea that I started brewing yesterday. D47 - A couple of days ago, I discovered thrips in my other tent, so I sprayed those plants with a chili tincture. Fortunately, I haven't seen any signs of thrips in this tent, but you can never be too careful with those little buggers. However, since this girl is in flower I couldn't spray her. I ordered some predatory mites, and today, they arrived, and I put them into the tents. D48 -The last day of the second week of flower. Not much to report as she is just doing her thing and fattening up the buds.

D49 - The first day in the third week of flower, and all is well. I still haven't seen any thrips on her, but you can never be too careful since I have them in my other tent, so I went full Rambo by cutting up a package and using a teaspoon to place predatory mites on her leaves and taking care to avoid the flowers. I also redirected the airflow to not blow directly on her and I'll leave the sawdust there until tomorrow and then brush it off. D53 - Not much to report really, except that I switched on the UV light. She is just doing her thing, slowly fattening her buds. D55 - I gave her 1.2-liters of compost tea @ pH 6.5 today. We're only at the end of the third week of flower, but she has several yellow leaves already.

D56 - The first day in the fourth week of flower. She is definitely in late flower now with yellowing leaves. I checked her trichomes for the first time today, and I already see amber. Not a lot, but still. D62 - She is showing quite a bit of amber now, so I will cut her down in a day or two. I never experienced an auto that finished in such a short time. Two months is just insane.

D63 - I chopped the girl today, which is by far the earliest I have ever had a girl finish. She is small, but her trichomes were already plenty amber. I want to let her dry in the same tent she was growing since I have an Inkbird controller there, which creates a stable environment for the drying process. The controller is set at 55% RH, +/- 2%. Meaning the humidifier kicks in when the RH drops below 53%, and the extractor fan if the RH gets above 57%. There's a small USB fan for air circulation, and I made sure it isn't blowing directly on the buds. I also moved the Chocodope girl from the tent and put her in a smaller tent with a small ViparSpectra light. No need to run the big light and waste energy on her. I trimmed off the most prominent fan leaves before hanging her whole in the tent. Now we wait. D70 - I just had the first look at the girl after she has been in the drying tent for a week. She is still quite a few days away from dry enough to trim.

I let her dry for 14 days in a dark tent at an average temp of 18.7 degrees C and RH of 54.5%. The trim was a piece of cake (cookie?). Not only because she was small but also because there was no larf whatsoever, only rock-hard nugs. The yield was modest, only 47 grams but the fact that those 47 grams only took 63 days from seed to harvest is insane.
