I let her be during week 3 since I change the water out every 2 weeks with a new DWC bucket exchange but I did it a few days early due to work schedule for the week and added 2 new nutrients to the mix. She shot up to 12 inches during this time and started to flower in just 30 days.. I will change the water out again in 2 weeks

Grow Questions

I'm growing out of a 3.5 gal hydrobucket. I've read that it's good to lower the water level by 1"-2" inches to promote root growth.. is this true or should I keep my water level where I started it at? Thank you.

Once you have roots popping out the bottom of your netcup (about a week or so after transplanting) most all DWC users will then drop their water level to 2'' below the netcup - let it drain a couple days and then check the solution, assess, and then get it back to 2'' below the netcup again with w/e you needed (plain water / nutes). This is very "heath robinson" and has worked for many growers for a very long time. You CAN improve upon this - your head is in the right place. I started with the above standard and eventually moved away from it a bit. I let my buckets drain and don't fill all the way back up to 2'' anymore - creating some drought stress and naturally boosting root growth as it drains (plus the pruning stress from your bubblers + a root stim and ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€). Now doing this does jack up your PPM a little bit, but so long at your below 2k and all is well, your plant will be fine - in a well acclimated hydroponics system the plant can take it!

To get an EC value, I must multiply the ppm reading by 2 and divide by 1000. But my TDS tester gives me both microSiemens and ppm reading.. which measurement do I use to get the correct EC value, microSiemens or ppm?thank you in advance.

Often the literature will use microSiemens (uS/cm) and EC standing for electrical conductivity. These two units are the same. http://www.maherjabado.com/ec-ppm-table.JPG Just may need to round the decimal point over a bit to get a EC of 1.0, Depending on the scale 500ppm or 640ppm 700ppm is all 1.0EC, That's why EC is more accurate then PPM. PPM is not truly accurate because all TDS pens do is measure EC. A true PPM count is done with a different machine. If you make a solution and test its EC at 1.0 or 1000ms/cm, then switch it to ppm you will find your scale. If your meter says 500ppm then you know that's your scale. Can test with salt water and save nutrients. Good Luck!
