My very first attempt at cultivation. So far only experience in the normal outdoor cultivation of vegetables (for eating).
So as usual, let them germinate directly in normal potting soil. At first I thought it was a complete flop, but after 6 days the first 2 leaves came 😃. That's it for the first week.
For lighting: First, an old LED aquarium lamp from AI. With the Hydra 26, everything, absolutely everything, can be adjusted precisely; Lighting duration and strength of each LED color. What works perfectly for corals should also work here.
*UPDATE* Was a sh... idea. The seedling shoots up. So exchanged on day 3 for a Mars TS1000
Day 1: First week has started. You can literally watch it grow. I'm really amazed.
Day 2: And made the first mistake right away. The lamp hangs too high, the seedling shoots up. So hung the lamp lower and immediately ordered a new LED.
Day 5: New lamp arrived and installed immediately.
Day 6: The new lamp stopped the growth in length and stimulated the formation of leaves.
Day 8: New week new luck. A grow box is currently being built so that the climate can be better controlled. As a beginner you don't want to believe some things at first...
Day 12: A little too much wind and she grows a little crooked. Optimized fans and bent a wire for support.
Day 14: I'm not really happy with the growth anymore. Could go faster...
Day 15 and moving to a new smart home. At the moment everything is solved with timers, but will still be automated.... the chip crisis has also caught the growers. ;-)
Day 17 f*ck, too cold for the ladies. Need a heating elementwith about 500W.
Day 20 because of the cold, the ladies have moved again. they thank you with increased growth
Day 22: New week, the decision: FIMing or topping or acting like a beginner and doing nothing... I'll wait tomorrow.
Day 23: FIMing !!
Day 25: Too much fertilizer, the leaves curl up. I've flushed now. Typical beginner mistake...
Day 26: Now after flushing, she has got too much water. I took the wrong soil. 2 weeks later i chose a different mixture for another try, it looks better there now. The soil dries faster there. "Try and error"
Day 27: Start with LST
Day 29: After fiming went wrong last week, I waited a few days and decided to take the full risk. The ladies have grown considerably in height and the leaves have not grown. The fiming only damaged the young leaves but did nothing else. I cut off the head to strengthen the side shoots. I hope it doesn't flower until next week...
Day 32: The flowering phase begins and the topping went wrong too. only one branch survived. but it's not too bad, her sister is developing splendidly. unfortunately i chose the wrong lady for the diary. Now i know how NOT to do it.
Day 36: Had tried a little LST, result: broken branch 😠. Why didn't anyone tell me that these Ladies are so sensitive ... another mistake that i will definitely not make again in the future.
Day 37: a little water with Canna Terra Flores
Day 38: great, now i have yellow tips on the young leaves ...
Day 42: A little Canna every day and all the problems of the previous weeks are forgotten.
Your plant is wanting more potassium. I been watching my plants when they do this. I add more potassium to diet it stops. Easy on nitrogen as well. I see from leaf in back ground it is getting on high side. Low nitrogen levels in flowering is best. Good luck 🌱
Week 7:
She stops growing and forms nice buds. So far no other problems have surfaced.
For the first time I'm relatively relaxed.
There is still water with Canna Terra Flores to eat.
I'm curious if the next few days will go just as well .
I have now started removing the lower leaves and smaller shoots. I hope to get so few but big buds.
I've made so many mistakes and tried things that it can only get better. In my other diary you can see the results of the findings. A second lady, which I sown at the same time, also benefits from the findings, since she has only just started flowering. Unfortunately there is no diary about her.
Week 8: Another new week. I removed a few leaves below and otherwise just fed and watered.
In addition, I was away for three days and could not take care of the lady myself. But she needs less care now than in the growth phase.
Don't worry bro, they are calyxes,as you can search they are on all female plants😉

9th week, 4th flowering week: The buds are getting bigger, but there is a phosphate deficiency. So Amazon has to deliver again...
The space in the tent is also getting smaller, so I have to reactivate the old box. There the other ladies are sent to flower with 12 hours of light.
The trichomes are still clear and the pistils are light yellow. So it will be a while before the harvest. I'm assuming at least 3 more weeks.
Week 10: The buds get a little thicker and smell really good. On day 70 all plants had to move to a common box with 12/12 lighting. The heating engineer came by and of course he wasn't supposed to see the tent... It's now a little cramped in the box. The temperature and humidity are also no longer in the optimal range. I hope I can set up the tent again quickly.
Week 11: The goal is in sight. I started rinsing at the end of the week. The trichomes will slowly turn milky. I think it will take about 10 days until harvest. The smell is already very strong.
In the meantime, all plants had to move to another box. This also changed the lighting to 12-12. Now she is back in the tent with a higher temperature and less humidity.
Week 11: Last week. There is only water to eat. The trichomes become milky and the first ones turn amber. The harvest is near
Day 80: Take a closer look today. It should be tomorrow.
Day 81: I will wait another week...
Day 85: I'm still waiting. Those stupid trichomes are only partially turning milky... But she smells damn good.
Day 87: It's getting tight in the 20-4 tent. I'm starting to need the space. Since my time is limited during the week, I can only harvest on weekends. And this weekend it will probably be nothing again...
Day 89: The trichomes are still not all milky. To calm my impatience a little, I ve harvested a small bud and ll now dry it. Next weekend, the first smoke test and maybe finally the harvest.
Day 90: Blown through, resulting in a power outage. F*ck regulator !!
Week 14: This will be the last week! Sure! I hope ...
Day 93: I probably watered it for the last time today, it will be harvested in two days. Scissors are sharp and ready!
Day 94: Ok, I found aphids on a bud. So it had to be harvested today... Everything that can possibly happen happens with this plant...
Sooo it's done. My first grow. The long wait is almost over.
I don't think 220 grams gross for the first time with all the mistakes and catastrophes is bad. OK, I still have to peel off the stalks and the sugar sheets, but I'll see that on the dry weight. Until then you have to wait...
First smoke test. I imagine something else when I think of "relax". It might be because the test harvest was a week early. At the moment the buds are drying on the line.
Update: 48g dry
Summary:
I learned a lot from this grow and made a lot of mistakes.
- Lighting:
Very important from day one. If the seedlings don't get enough or the wrong light, they will stretch.
- Temperature and humidity:
Both factors are directly dependent on each other. And both factors are extremely important.
If it is too cold, the plants grow slowly and only form small leaves.
In a cold room without heating, the humidity is also much too high. The lamp brings warmth in the tent, but if you try to exchange air with a fan, the cold comes from outside again. More heating is required and electricity costs are rising.
Solution:
The tent must be in a heated room with relatively low humidity. Then you don't need extra heating in the tent and controlling the humidity is easier.
- Equipment:
When growing indoors, you definitely need good equipment. A tent, a good LED lamp, a fan with a filter and a controller. Together you get the things for about 500 €. With the first harvest, the costs are usually almost recovered.
And no, cheap lamps do not work !!!
- Fertilizer:
You need that too. I have tried good soil and organic fertilizer but the plants are very very hungry due to the optimal conditions.
So buy fertilizer and roughly follow the recommendations (I only needed half thanks to the soil).
- Training:
OK, there's a lot that can go wrong. I tried fiming, no comment!! Topping still works best in conjunction with LST. The aim is to get the individual shoots to the same height without shading each other. When they are at the same height, the shoots all get the same amount of energy to grow and thus all produce equally sized buds.
But beware, the branches break very quickly!
- Vermin:
These damn little things. If you use normal floor, then you are guaranteed to get visitors.
Neem oil helps, yellow boards too, maybe a few "good" animals. But please no chemicals, you want to smoke it.
That was my first harvest now. you underestimate the time required. I also had to wash the buds because of the aphids. But after seeing what else was washed out on animals... I will always wash now!
Hey man just some friendly tips from looking at the information available to me here. I would aim to warm up your room for lights on temps you should be trying to see 80-84 lights off should be no more than 9 degree difference in veg & early flower so they do not stretch much and grow nice and compact. That cold of temps in veg will cause slow growth for sure. Cannabis plants love heat and humidity, It is the buds that hate it. Also for 150W LED your plant to light distance could be shored up and lights brought closer to get more PAR on top of those plants. I always recommend every grower to get a PAR meter and a thermal heat gun to be able to push your equipment and maximize its potential it is so worth it. Keep up the good work
@Cold_Farmer, I hear you man. A large part of growing is doing what you can with what you got and your doing great with your circumstances. Keep it up will for sure be watching!
Thanks for the tips. The grow box is currently in a cold room at about 13°C (55°F) (F*ck winter) and my delta t is only about 6k with the lights on. Now they have moved to a warmer room, just without the grow box. I'm building a new one there so that I can get up to 80°F without additional heating (electricity is damn expensive here).
I am a first time grower too- I am going to use your pics as a template of what my plants could look like- few questions:
What week did you start nutes?
What week did you start the flip- to more darkness?
Any tips or mistakes to avoid?
Thanks- and great job!
@Noahbear,
Since I used "normal" soil, I had to start fertilizing very late. Your plant will let you know when it needs some extra food.
I didn't have to switch to 12/12 mode either, it's an autoflower in this attempt.
This is also my first grow and I made so many mistakes with it. But I learned a lot from it. You can take a look at the other diaries, but every plant grows differently (even under exactly the same conditions).
What is important is the lighting (take an LED from the top 10 here) and the temperature/humidity. That's where I made the most mistakes, thinking that a simple lamp plus room would fit... well, it didn't fit at all.
