Directly in substrate seems to be the way to go if you're using the correct soil. Don't fix it if it's not broken. I've had over 90% germ rate with this method so that's okay with me.
Had a feller online say that scoops was the best cultivar he's ever smoked and Freeworld chem was his second favorite so this was a no brainer for him. If someone is that amazed by something I gotta try it out. Fingers crossed.
I originally came across this cultivar in one of the grow groups on faceshnarf. Someone said that two scoops was their all time favorite and that they also loved free world chem, so this pack of seeds was a no brainer for them. Well, that got me to thinking and I did some research on the genetic lineage of the plant. Two caught my eye in particular. The Strawberry Banana and Chem. The Banana in Strawberry Banana is Banana OG which I love and I also am a fan of chem. Haven't had much strawberry and sherbets so it will be interesting to learn more of the terpene profile once she is smoked.
Steady and smooth growing. She's got a nice structure so far. Not too much stretch on her which is something indoor growers love. If I put soy sauce in my fried rice, I don't need to add any salt.
Not as vigorous as I would hope for in veg but I am running much cooler temperatures as we come into fall here in the valley of Cali. Great for the flower tent but I have noticed slower veg growth. Give and take.
Definitely slower growth in veg with these temps. One day I will be able to control the environments of the veg and flower tents differently. I just don't have the space for it right now because both tents are in the same room so they have the same outside temps. Not ideal but it could be a lot worse.
Gave her a good topping and this will be her last week in veg before she is sent into flower. Looking forward to trying some Scoops of Chem concentrate.
The first week of flower I always do a little bit of defoliation at the bottom. This makes it so I can go from watering with a turkey baster to watering with a 2 cup measuring cup with a spout for flood and drain.
Really looking forward to a short flowering period with this lady. The breeder says she is 8-9 weeks but I am going to pull her at 8 regardless. I am trying to achieve a lighter color in my rosin and I have come across some advice to pull the plants sooner so the THC is more milky rather than amber. It makes sense. The more milky the trichomes the more light colored the rosin will be.
Knocking this one out of the park boys. She's doing absolutely perfect so far in flower. Couldn't ask for better results moving forward. Beautiful green strong stems and healthy leaves. Frost is coming in nicely as well. She has a beautiful structure but doesn't look like she is going to yield that heavy. Time will tell.
Her top leaves are starting to change color a bit. I've increased her light quite a bit entering mid flowering and I believe these are the affects. I am desiring to eliminate late flower claw as I have been getting it lately. I've read that sometimes it is genetic and others it is growing errors. Lighting being one of them so I am playing with different levels of light experimenting and finding the sweet spot. I want to make it very clear that the sweet spot to me is less what is recommended and more what the plants are telling me with the way they look. They really do talk to you if you pay attention. Sometimes listening can be difficult but that's what makes you a better grower as you learn what to listen for.
I've been blasting her with more light than she probably needs through these middle weeks to test her limits. I have cloned her and will be running her again testing different grow methods and nutrients to see what works and what does not.
Going to be pulling her right at 8 weeks so I have since toned the lights down to ripen her up and started giving her overdrive. She has a citrus/fruity chem smell to her. She smells when you open the tent up.
Well here we go. Last week before chop chop time. Very excited about this one because of all of the good genetics that are in her. Nice to be trying out other breeders too. She has a very pretty fade on her. She's got some purple in her flowers which is always a nice addition to bag appeal and grind.
Very nice balanced chem with the strawberry banana sherbet x sherbet coming through adding delicious flavor that lasts. Wonderful exhale flavor that lasts. Has amazing rosin color. The only reason it's missing the last star is it's lack of bag appeal. It's in the mids for bag appeal but grade A for effect and flavor.
Easy to grow plant with medium vigor, can handle heavy feedings, doesn't need much light, medium tall stretch with thick strong stems requiring no supports. You can easily multi-top her and get her big. Only downside was the yield. For 7 weeks veg it's definitely on the lighter side. The quality makes up for the lack of yield.
