Week 1 of veg. In the books and we have a stable of very healthy and incredibly vigorous plants on the grow here. Even the runty one (there’s always one) has shown some signs of strong growth and we may not end up culling her from the mix at all. Over the last couple days, growth has exploded with no signs of slowing down - even after their transplant to the bigger pots👍. They’re doing everything they’re supposed to and showing that F1 vigour at every step. So far, so good and we really couldn’t ask for a better start to this run. We incorporated a very mild solution of our primary nute this week - Druid Berkana. This stuff is a one part system designed for the whole cycle and its proven to be one of the best all-around nute brands we’ve tried to date. Some light foliar spraying with liquid karma continues to mid week and then they’re all on their own👌. Expecting big things from this run and if we get lucky with continued robust growth - might be able to take clones after the third week of veg and flip🤞🤞🤞. Week 2 of veg. In the books and we’re go’n off like clockwork right now👍. They all stalled out for a couple of days after transplant but quickly responded once we jacked up the nute ratio and got the pots sufficiently saturated. The runt has made the cut too. She’s responded incredibly well and managed to catch up to the other 3 slowest. Awesome decision to keep her around👍. At this rate, the flip is probably coming mid-late this week. It’d be nice to allow a little more development for some cuts but we’re also on a pretty tight schedule. If we have to, we’ll forego an initial pheno test on the females. Gotta make room for the spring starts. There’s still hope for it and I don’t mind a slight reveg but it will make for some complicated juggling over the next 3 months. Only time will tell. Week 3 update and all systems go for launch. We’re flipping to flower exactly 21 days from seed and so far, the mix looks to be impressive. Counting about 4 males (one that won’t make the cut), 2 indica leaning phenos and the rest are sativa leaning. Side branching has also been impressive so we should be able to pull some rootable cuts within the next week or two. If we got the sexes right (it is a little early to be certain), then the dutchy cabinet will be full up for bud testing👍. Next week will tell the tale🤟. Week 4 update - through the first week of the stretch and all is developing well. It’s really only the one strong male that’s started showing significantly. Most of the females have trace pistils and are still rapid vegging as expected. Every plant continues showing excellent hybrid vigour and there are literally zero noticeable deficiencies. Currently, the count is at about 2/3 males + about 2/3 indica dominant fem phenos. We took clones of everything female this week so that we can bud em out proper in the dutchy cabinet once the pollen subsides. That’s where we’ll get a real look at the bid quality👌. They’re all quite young at only 3/4 weeks from seed but still look hardy and strong. Rigged up a new drip ring delivery system so that we could take off for a couple days and make watering easier for my mother in-law. Anyone wants the skinny on those, just throw me a dm - super easy design and save a ton of cash and time. All told - were well on our way to the final finish of this generation and the punnet squaring should be interesting once we’re done. End of the second week of the stretch and pretty much as expected. One male has gone off early spilling pollen everywhere. The females Id say are a little behind this one but no real worries - we got another 2 males in there ready and waiting to burst at the right time👍. We’ve now pared down the whole tent for pollination and taken cuttings of each fem. Plant for a separate run. Best part there is that we have 3 identified phenos of both indica and sativa dominant traits so we’re gonna get a really even look at what the genetic has to offer, while at the same time being able to isolate desirable traits in the resulting F2 seed. Pretty sick outcome to date 🔥. We moved over to GHE nutes this week to save the Druid nutes for the fem run in the recirc system. Stronger brand for sure, but similar in value and ease. End of the third week of the stretch and they certain out did stretch indeed😳. Had to crop over the tallest female - she just stretched wayyy too much and that’s gonna go against her in the rankings when we draw out our seed on each plant. The first male has dropped fully and the others are another 1-2 days out from harvest. We’ll collect all that pollen and store it for future use if it’s needed. The plants are all showing both similarities and differences - there’s an even distribution of sativa and indica leaning phenos which suggests that there is def. Some variability in terms of traits for this F1 generation. Exactly what we were looking for as we pare this down to the second filial generation. On the overall growth - absolutely no issues at all with nutritional deficiencies which is a welcome change of pace. The last while we’ve been growing some strains that have shown very odd reactions to nute changes and I suspect this is a result of certain strains simply being bred out too far. Hard to say but the radar is definitely up with the well known breeders right now. We have some real winner pheno clones that we’ve rooted and will be flowering out once we get this tent cleaned up and free of pollen. All told, the run is progressing much better than anticipated and with the rate of turnover through transition, I’m happy to say that there isn’t any one plant I won’t consider test running on the next cycle. We did have some og auto genetics in the tent for pollination as well but that plant is looking like a bit of a mutant. Not sure if we’ll even bother with testing it at this point but you never know. Week 4 of flower and it’s been a week for the books. The males gizzed all over the females and we spent the better part of a week harvesting the males for pollen, then defoliating and spraying the pollinated females, then going full sanitize on the entire tent… (that part always sucks). Either way, they’re off to the seed making and generally showing a brilliant, yet subtle pink across most phenos. Gonna be pretty cool seeing how the colours develop on these👌. The fact that the pinks are prevalent amongst all plants is very encouraging. Still early for sure - but… potential for something special👍. Terp. Profiles are becoming quite pronounced now too. So far, we’ve got one that smells of a very sweet sorta pine in female #3 and a definitive baked berrry scent in female #1. The hope was always to balance out the earthiness of the Kush which is classic to the strain in terms of taste, just not overly tasty. Again, still early but we might’ve achieved that here on crossing🤞👌. All told and as long as we keep ‘em alive to the finish - we should have tons of seed and a well defined set of partially drilled down traits. Through week 5 of flower and all is generally good. The whole tent stinks like hell of berries, pine and earthy Kush. They’re all presenting something a little different in terms of growth but still very similar terp profiles and bud structure. Seed maturation is showing on some of the lower nodes as well. We’re getting much closer here. Hopefully not more than a couple weeks but we’ll see. #1 will go off first for sure. She’s showing a progressing N deficiency that likely isn’t fixable but it does remain possible she’s simply ending her cycle. If so, it’ll be a trait worth noting on the F2 run. Until next week, ✌️! 6 weeks into flower and all of these are rounding out incredibly well. The terps are of sweet berry and Kush undertones - fairly consistent across the whole crop. We’re starting to see maturation of flower now too and on a select few we’re getting heavy defined purples in the sugar leaves🤩🤩. One of the sativas is also throwing some early rust colouring as well🤩🤩. We’re just starting to make final selections on the girls we’ll take through to the second generation. Breakdown so far as follows: P1/S1 - stretchy, very sativa, vigorous through whole cycle. Earliest shower. Nitro deficient. Might be a keeper due to the vigour. The most strawberry dominant. P2/S2 - paler like the first, sativa dominant but more structured w/less stretch. Frostier. No deficiencies. Potential keeper over the P1. P3/S3 - deeper green, sativa dominant. Throwing rust colour in the fans and purpling in the sugars. Frosty. No deficiencies. Definitely keeper #1. P4/I1 - similar structure to P1 & 2 with pale green leaves. Showing 1.5 weeks worth of phosphorous def. And early stage nitro. Not worth keeping P5/I2 - toss up on this one. Growing most similarly to P6 but with far more foliage growth. I probably wont waste the trouble with this batch if I can get better structure out of P6. P6/I3 - best of the bunch all around and a guaranteed keeper pheno. Squat structure and heavily purpling sugar leaves (Skywalker traits). Pinkish hues and coned structure in the buds with, most importantly, a definitively sweet berry profile and earthy undertones. Week 8 of flower is in the books and it will be the final week we log prior to harvest of our F2 generation seeds. They coloured out really nicely and bulked up substantially (even for seeded buds) with excellent trich coverage on at least 3 of the differing phenos. The seeds are now ripe and the girls are ready to come down. What’s really good to see is the relative consistency across all the plants. Half coloured up better and that’s where we’ll draw our tester seeds from on the next F2 cycle. That’ll be a straight pheno hunt expedition until we source a suitable mother plant for pollination and further drill down on the cross. We also crossed out an OG Kush auto with the F1’s as well. If the bud shits the bed we at least gave it an extra go by incorporating more Kush into the mix (albeit with trace ruderalis genetics). You never know - this one could be straight 🔥 as well🤞. Full harvest report to follow. Added a couple of photos of our impromptu auto watering system. When we run coco and need to automate on a whim we just hook up the drip lines and allow the runoff to drain into a basic collection tray that we shop vac out after. It gets the job done and saves the back from hand watering. Easily something I’d recommend if u spend time away from the plants for a few day stretch. You can leave the runoff for a couple days if it’s necessary making the whole grow plug and play for your grow assistant/mother-in-law👍👌😉.
