Seed separated from hull when picking up from paper towel but was quicker than Dutch Passion‘s Auto Brooklyn Sunrise to sprout. Testing Plagron‘s royalmix substrate plus their alga Grow/alga Bloom fertilizers plus Plagron Green Sensation for this run.

Hello friends, welcome to my grow diary for 00Seeds Auto California Kush, also check out my grow diary for the plant growing alongside it, Dutch Passion’s Auto Brooklyn Sunrise which lags a teeny tiny bit behind this one. Just to put this upfront; these two are my very first grow diaries so I hope I can deliver a diary with insights into my growing style. I’m open to any suggestions for improvement so if you have any thoughts or questions please let me know and I’m sure I’ll respond. I’m a somewhat experienced grower with around 30 harvested plants (I usually grow between 2-4 plants at a time) so far. My Setup: - Tent: A custom build grow cabinet made from spruce wood and white/black poly foil tacked to it. It fits perfectly in my kitchen and also extends my countertop space. - Light: EnFun EF-2000 (Full spectrum LM301B, 240 true Watt) - Pots: 11l (~3g) plastic pots - Substrate: Plagron royalmix + Mykorrhiza (Rhizophagus irregularis) - Fertilizer: Plagron alga Grow, alga Bloom & green sensation - Techniques: Due to limited height of my GrowBox I heavily LST - Ventilation: 4x PC fans pushing air in, passive out, no filtering Before planting I reset my GrowBox by thoroughly cleaning it, then disinfecting it first with hydrogen peroxide then with isopropyl alcohol to get it as clean as possible. I usually use my own grow substrate (based mainly on peat and vermiculite) but this time I wanted to try how Plagron’s royalmix would compare. This is also my first grow using Plagron’s organic alga fertilizers. Before I mostly used their synthetic terra line. After germinating the seeds in a paper towel I planted them in 11l (~3g) pots but not directly in the heavily pre-fertilized royalmix. Instead I dug a little hole and filled it with Canna Terra Seed Mix where I buried the sprouted seed in to provide a buffer for it. The Plagron royalmix feels and looks like a great substrate. It’s very airy/fluffy and seems like a good alternative to my own mix. Since it’s winter and humidity is low I added humidity domes (old yoghurt pots) over the seedlings. My light dimmer is set to 6.5 which currently provides a PPFD of 316 μmol/m² measured under the humidity dome. That’s a DLI around 26.5 mol/m²d. I PH my water to around 6.5 with crystalline citric acid which is cheap, especially if you buy it in larger quantities, and it’s excellent to use around the house for cleaning too. I’m stoked to find out what challenges this run will bring with it. I’ll update these diaries constantly as things happen! Day 7: Nothing to report at all. Plant’s growing fine and is getting to big for the small humidity dome so I’ve started leaving it off for an hour or two to get the plant acclimated to life without high humidity gently.

Hello and thank you for checking out this grow diary of mine! We’re in Week 2 of vegetation and both plants (I’m also growing a slightly mutated “Auto Brooklyn Sunrise” by Dutch Passion alongside this one, check the other diary for specific info for that grow) are now starting to grow more rapidly. There’s little to report at all. I watered only once this week because the Plagron royalmix that I’m using for the first time this run apparently has a higher capacity to hold water than my own mix that I’m used to. I still need to dial in my watering schedule to this new substrate. It’s not noticeable on photos yet but on the magnified picture of the leaf you can see that there’s a very minor chlorosis in between the veins starting (yellowing). Have to keep an eye on that next week.

Welcome back to week 3 of this grow diary! Well fuck.. Last week I told you that I suspected the beginning of some sort of interveinal chlorosis that I had to look out for this week. I wasn’t really sure about it until about Day 19 when the symptoms worsened and the California Kush very clearly had some sort of deficiency. I’m not really sure what’s going on but I suspect it’s a magnesium deficiency that’s the only thing making sense to me. I had slight problems with adjusting my watering volume and frequency to this new substrate. I overwatered a bit last week because the substrate apparently has a higher water holding capacity. Immediate actions: Less watering, corrugated cardboard under planters for insulation from cold tiles, checked soil PH (slurry test), ordered Epsom salt (should take about a week to arrive) for foliar application. I’m pondering flushing the substrate so that I can be sure it’s not caused by excess of other nutrients and lockout. But since I noticed that the substrate holds water a little bit to well for my taste this could also backfire and further worsen symptoms. Unsure on how to proceed, guess I’ll have to wait for the Epsom salt and try if a foliar spray improves the status of my plants :( Day 21: A friend brought over a tiny bit of Epsom salt and I applied it with a foliar spray at 4mg/Liter in distilled water. I also started LST to keep my plant as flat as possible. I’m limited by height so a lot of LST is required. I’m using soft green plastic tubing with a metal core for permanent, adjustable things and basic hemp string for temporary things like holding leaves down. Let me know if you have any input on the matter!

I suspect a magnesium deficiency but don’t quite know what could’ve caused it. Growing in Plagron royalmix (PH 6.6, EC 1.5). Watering plain water at PH 6.5. According to Plagron’s Grow schedule I’m not supposed to add nutes until week 7.. How would you tackle this problem?

Suerte

Not a big fan of Plagron, its confusing at best. Seen a few questions regarding their products. This looks like magnesium to me. can use epsom salts to fix it real quick. 1tsp in 1gal. Good Luck!

Ah plagron told you like that ;) Well i also used royal and batmix a few years back and i have had the exact same problem. I never knew when to start with the feeding to have a smooth transition from the soilnutes to bottled nutes. It might be interesting to look into Premix (biobizz) or Supermix (plagron). these are dry nute mixes which u can mix yourself. If you start of with nuteless soil or a lightmix u can mix like 3 to 5% of these dry nutes into your soil and u dont have to worry about feeding anymore for the whole run. Ofcourse this also need some fine tuning like everything else but it takes away alot of hassle. Also this is organic like it should be instead of bottled up stuff. You dont have to adjust your pH nomore because of the ph balanced nute mix. I think there is even some mycco in there but im not sure. Now, u said your pot is 11L and with a plant this big/small i dont think it can be a nute problem like u said. It looks like cal/mag to me too. I might think its due to light stress, can this be? Idk if you have some knowledge about PPFD but a plant like this probably only need max 400 ppfd. Led lights can be extremely strong. In jour journal i see you use a 250W led light at 50cm distance. If you dont have your light dimmed this is probably the problem but im not completely sure. Is this the only plant underneath this light or are there more? Good luck

@Japangarden, Of course I’m missing a direct comparison against similar quantum boards but I’m very satisfied with the EnFun EF-2000 that I’m using. I switched from a 400W HPS mainly because of cost of electricity (about 0.3€/kWH here) and heat production and while the EnFun only has about half the real wattage it’s doing a great job. My plants have a great intermodal distance so they aren’t stretching much until flower. The switch for flowering which turns on IR and FR and UV is great too. Let me know if you have any specific questions that I could answer.
