All six popped up in fours days with and had a nice tap root coming out the bottom of the pellet. Moved them 4 inch rockwool cubes which have been pre soaked in ph 5.5 plain water. Will dip the bottom of the blocks in a weak solution of Rhizotonic as they dry out.
Coming on well. Been dipping the bottom half of the blocks when they start to feel light to draw the roots down the blocks. Got them raised up on a wire tray so they all die back once they hit the air and making a bigger root ball inside the block.
Grown quite well this last week. They do all look a bit of a sad bunch at the minute though. Hopefully they’ll pick up. Been dipping blocks every couple of days to pull roots down.
Looking good. Got loads of root tips sticking out so now dropped them on some squares of spreader mat. Roots should go mad now and by next week they’ll be ready to on to the tables. Liking the look of these so far.
Moved these into the treys 2 days ago. Some of the best roots I’ve had so far. The hole bottom of the blocks were covered as you can see. Exactly what you want to see before transplanting to NFT system. These should go mad now. Only running pumps 4 times a day to get the roots out and searching. Around another week and I’ll flip these.
Looking good. Still got a bit of light stress on a couple but nothing major. Roots looking banging and got some huge fan leaves which hopefully is a sign of good things to come. Canopy filling up nice and dense. Changed res at the start of the week, will carry on with the veg feed until I see some flowers.
Nearly gave up on these as the whole tent door ripped. Tried various ways to fix it but failed. Temps and humidity were all over the place and they really suffered. Managed to rig up a temporary door out of Kingspan and some roofing membrane and I’m kinda glad I did now as there looks like there’s some buds on these. Dont think yield will be massive but glad I didn’t pull the plug.
These have been put through hell. With the makeshift tent door really struggled with conditions especially humidity which has been around 68% which is miles to high. Unbelievably no sign of mold and they’re definately frosty and smelling the part. Yield will be well down but so glad I didn’t pull the plug on them.
Have you used this strategy of the jiffy starters directly into the big rockwool cubes?
Never mind I looked at other diaries.. curious why you don’t use a rockwool starter cube but obviously it’s working for ya!
@HydroHerb420, interesting.. Ive just seen a lot of ppl in the questions page having issues with the peat/jiffy plugs. Dampening off usually or just not making it past germination. Anyhow, we do what works well for ourselves, as long as it’s working no need to change things up!
@Ezzjaybruh, personally just had more success germinating them in jiffy’s. A 40mm jiffy pellet fits perfectly into the big Hugo blocks as in does into 4” cubes. Actually fits more snug than when you drop a rockwool starter in!! Maybe Grodan are trying to tell you something with that one!!
