•Germinated within 24 hours and placed in Rapid Rooter plugs inside of seedling trays with humidity domes.
•Set up grow room (T: 70-78F, RH: 60-75%) with custom 5gal bucket RDWC fallponic system with outside reservoir and in-line 440gph water pump, 4” air discs, 6” net pots, LECA.
•This will be my first run in hydro so I’m growing in soil on the other side of the 4x4 tent for comparison.
•I plan on using TPS nutrients Component Series kit along with diluted Southern AG GFF in place of HG.
•The Super Lemon and West Coast OG seedlings were the biggest and stronger looking of the 4 seeds germed so I transplanted those into RDWC and the others into 5gal fabric pots filled with FFOF mix of soil etc.
•The system has ~11-12 gal of tap water (PPM ~100) + nutrient mix @ ~50% strength
•Hand top feeding 2-3 times a day.
•Still no roots after a few days and plants are starting to look like they are going to die.
•Decided to increase PPM 350-400 towards end of week.
•Finally seeing white, thick roots shooting out of the net pots and water level is ~1” below.
•Now only hand top feeding once a day and will probably stop on Monday, but plants do not look happy and are stunted compared to my soil grow. The PH is good and the the PPM has been decreasing slowly so they’re feeding and PH rises slowly as well. I don’t know what’s going on because the root zone looks good, but the plants are not growing and look bad. They don’t look burnt - maybe an N deficiency?
•End of week 1 after transplanting to RDWC and start of week 2.
•The roots finally have showed themselves and are snow stark white, thick overall healthy looking, but the plants do not look happy compared to my soil grow.
•They’re dropping, stunted, light green to yellowish.
•They’re about half the size of my soil grow and I cannot figure out what is wrong with them. -If anyone reads this and has any suggestions, please help!
•After increasing PPM to ~430 the next day both look much better, but still look a week behind my soil grow.
•Both are growing roots pretty good now, but the Super Lemon isn’t catching up like the WC OG.
•Light proofed buckets with Reflectix R21 insulation.
•Res change/clean after 8 days and plants are looking better.
•Couple days after res change and both are looking much happier and showing signs of new growth on top and below u. The root zone.
•Finally was able to start lst on the WC OG, but will have to wait on the Super Lemon-if it even grows big enough to lst.
•Have to add an ice pack once in awhile to keep temps under 70F-res hovers around 68F majority of the time.
•Topped off res with 1/2 gal mixed with 2ml A/B + 2ml calimagic + 0.3ml S. AG and PH down to lower PH down to 5.8 from 6.0
•Both showing new growth nearly everyday.
•Defoliated bottom stunted leaves from both on 2/22 to focus more energy into producing new growth.
•Lst WC OG 2/23 to even out canopy.
•Res change 2/24 increased PPM to ~500.
•S.Lemon looks like it’s developing a deficiency of some kind…zinc/magnesium maybe? If anybody has some advice it’s most welcomed.
•Increased LED intensity to 100%
•Rotated both to give them more light to even out the canopies.
•Having trouble with both of them again. Lemon has some sort of deficiency/maybe nute burn.
•Flushed/cleaned everything filled up res with 500PPM solution different ratio of nutes.
•Doesn’t look like anything’s wrong with the roots but can’t figure out what’s wrong. PH stays between 5.6-6.4. Suggestions?
•Beginning of week 4 and both are showing signs of deficiencies or rot…
•I’m beginning to suspect it is root rot 3/2 and decided to switch to hydroguard because the S Ag seems to cause buildup and particles.
•Cleaned system with 3% H202 and rinsed roots with a diluted solution of H2O2 and water.
•Refilled res with new nutes and HG @2-3ml/gal and top fed HG solution to hopefully get the bacteria around the whole root base.
•Battling root rot- not sure if they’ll make it so I started germinating two more WC OG.
•Added Great White to the mix and switched nutes to Advanced 3-part that I had left over from last grow.
•Plants seem to have gotten a little better - hard to tell what is working if anything.
•Reduced PPM to ~400 for now and reduced light intensity.
•Ending week 4 and start of flower for WC OG - it’s stunted and I’m germing 2 more since both plants got rot I’ll probably transplant them into soil and start over.
•They didn’t start out right and we’re really stunted compared to my soil grow and never recovered fully.
•I added a better air pump to see if this will help these two get rid of the rot.
•They do seem to be getting better with the GW, HG and advanced nutes at lower ppm.
•Lemon hasn’t really grown at all so I just topped it for the fuck of it. It hasn’t gotten any worse though since making the changes. The maintenance for root rot is becoming so fucking burdensome…
3/16 - had enough of dealing with the rot and decided to transplant into soil. Used Heisenbergs EWC tea recipe while transplanting. Don’t really care if they make it through or not. It’d be nice if the wet coast OG makes it through flower for some bud for edibles. I think the Lemon auto is not an auto it’s been in veg forever.
3/18 - WC OG is surprisingly doing very well after transplant and budding. Lemon auto should be bouncing back soon. Hoping it’s a female that I can take clones from for more RDWC practice. Defoliated some dying leaves on both prior to transplant and a few after transplant.
3/25 - Lemon is showing new growth and seems to have adjusted to the soil finally. WC OG pistils have turned orange due to stress probably, but after adjusting to the soil I haven’t had any new leaf issues and seeing some new white pistils. These 2 have become a big experiment from root rot in hydro, root pruning and brewing heisenberg compost tea to transplanting into soil both in veg and flower. I’m not exactly happy, but I am learning a lot and my second round of RDWC is going much smoother.
