Irie Genetics Test Grow #1
03/19/2022 - (Planting Day 1): 5 seeds were placed in Root Riot cubes. They were moistened just a little with Great White Liquid and a little Super Thrive.
The trays were then placed in a Mars Hydro 2 x 4 in darkness at 82ºF. I spritzed the the surface and the tray lid for extra humidity.
03/20/2022 - (Planting Day 2): Nice mist on surface peat and the lid.
03/21/2022 - (Planting Day 3): Mist routine. Added Humidifier to tent and set it to 80%
03/22/2022 (0800 - Germ Day 1) - (4 days since planting): 3 of 5 seeds visible, although 1 is stuck with head still under soil.
03/22/2022 (1800 - Germ Day 1) - (4 days since planting): I am concerned about the one seedling with its feet and head under the soil.
03/23/2022 (1000 - Germ Day 2) - (5 days since planting): All 5 seeds have germinated, but 2 are still in distress. Head and Roots are in the soil.
Conditions: Germ Tent, 85ºF, 85% RH still under dome.
03/23/2002 (2000 - Germ Day 2) - (5 days since planting): I got home from dinner out and decided to see if I could help my two "stuck" seedlings. One (yellow circle) came out and laid over (expected). The one with the white circle came right out of its Root Riot plug. I ran and got a new RR plug and spritzed its tap root with a very myco/MSA mix and placed it root down in a new plug. If it makes it, I will make room in the tent for an extra. It won't be in an AutoPot, but I'll figure out something.
03/24/2022 (0800) - Germ Day 3 (6 days since planting): I attempted a rescue last night and this morning my two "stuck" seedlings are upright, looking like strong & feisty cobras.
03/27/2022 - Germ Day 6 (9 days since planting): Big Day! It’s moving day.
I moved the Root Riot Plugs into their next home … the double-layered solo-cup technique. The inner cup is translucent so that I can monitor root growth and the other is solid color to protect the roots from excessive light.
I used this as an opportunity raise the coco up on the current stems to encourage root growth up higher on the stem.
The coco was saturated with the above mixture a couple of days earlier.
I layered the bottom of the transplant hole with Great White Mycorrhizae pellets and dusted the Root Riot surface with Great White Powder.
The additional soil at the top allowed me to remove the stem supports on the 2 weaker seedlings.
Veg will begin when there are 3 sets of true leaves.
Tomorrow, all plants will be renumbered from strongest growth to weakest at this point.
Additional Notes: I am likely to chop my previous harvest today and then sanitize the tent and move these 5 plants to their permanent tent.
03/28/2022 - Germ Day 7 - (10 days since planting)
Previous crop was harvested yesterday. Seedlings are strengthening up. Not much has changed
Tomorrow, I plant to move them to their permenant grow tent
03/29/2022 (Day 8 from Germ):
(1) Starting Week 1 of Veg. Plants are still in Solo Cups, but as soon as I see decent root growth in the cup.
(2) I am standing by to start feeding "lightly." They will get about 1 EC for about a week and I will reassess if I need to start moving up in EC.
(3) My plan is to stay close to 6.0 pH since I am in coco.
(4) Added in Wicking Bucket for 5th Seedling. I just couldn't send it to heaven just yet. : )
03/30/2022 (Day 9 from Germ):
(1) Fed 5ml of Jack's 3-2-1 + MKP (leftover from last grow). I'll go to normal nutes on transplant and add in M-K-P a week before flipping to flower
(2) Today, I'll make veg-period foliar feeds for the mister/sprayer
(a) Micro Nutrients
(b) Kelp / Mr. Fulvic
03/31/2022 (Day 10 from Germ)
Woke up to a leaf issue. A small crack in a true leaf. See pics.
VPD was perfect last night.
#3 is the leggiest one.
#1 is the heartiest of the 5
#5 is still the runt
Day 10 -- Happenings
AutoPot Notes:
I filled the AutoPot reservoir for the first time with about 3 gallons of nutrients and supplements and then left for the store. When I got back the dry-ish Coco sucked up 3/4 of it. So, I made another batch of about 4 gallons. I made 3 gallons, but the mix was too hot so I brought the EC down with plain RO water.
I made the mistake of putting a wetting agent in there and my wavemaker and air bubbles turned it into a pretty decent bubble bath. I turned those off until the bubbles settle.
The 5 plants are still in their Solo Cups working on height and roots. My goal with the AutoPots, for now, is to get the material moist and loaded up with a nice Welcome Wagon basket of goodies for when the new roots move in.
The mixture is:
Nutrients (all amounts are based on 1-gallon):
3.0g Jack's A
2.0g Jack's B
1.0g Epsom
Supplements (as the label states for 1 gallon):
Stout MSA (mono-silicic acid)
Mr. Fulvic
Tribus
Kelp
Super Thrive (still trying to use this up)
Liquid Orca
Wetting Agent
Grow More BioCozyme
When all was said and done, the final mix was:
2.00 EC
6.18 pH
04/01/22 (Day 11 from Germ)
I may have made their medium a little to wet ... may a little hot too.
(1) Modest growth on Irie #1
(2) #2 is having fun with leaf development.
(3) No roots visible yet.
(4) Filled up their future reservoir today to EC 2.0 and it is pH'd to 6.12.
(5) They are in solo cups for a while.
(6) Meantime, I continue feeding with a syringe.
04/02/22 (Day 12 from Germ):
(1) And so begins the Era of the Fungus Gnat War.
(2) It was a quiet night, my Stats are good. Meaning VPD was "Perfect" overnight.
(3) Over the last few days I've been raising the PPFD/DLI. I raised the PPFD from 250 to 275 and now to 350, which gives 22.68 in DLI.
(4) I'm just waiting on visible roots.
(5) Number One is the Super Star for now.
04/03/22 (Day 13 from Germ):
I'm doing something to hurt these plants.
I suspect that I'm foliar feeding nutrients too early and too often. I stop doing that.
I also spritz them daily with a kelp/fulvic mixture. Look close at the top view pics to see what looks like "burn." It's not light burn because they are getting between 325 and 350 PPFD (DLI: 27.54). I'm still not seeing roots reaching the edge of the inner clear cups. Also, my humidifier doesn't want to get much above 45%. This caused the VPD to rocket upward to 1.4 at the leaf. I'll work on that too.
04/04/22 (Day 14 from Germ):
-- Thanks to me and my ham-fisted foliar ways, they older leaves are not looking so great.
-- The good news is that the newer growth looks good.
-- Also, look at how much #1 covers the cup.
-- I top-layered the cups in Mosquito Bits to keep Fungus Gnats on edge. When these are transferred to their fabric pots I think I'll do this on a large scale.
-- Put a giant bag of Mosquito Bits directly into reservoir.
-- Gave 50 ML nutrients to each plant.
-- Having Problems with Humidifier - blowing my VPD Through the Roof
04/05/22 - Notes (Day 15)
* Still In Solo Cups
* No sign of roots towards outer edge of cup yet.
* Humidifier is not keeping up
* PPFD 450 / DLI 29.16
--------------------------------------------------------
04/06/22 - Notes (Day 16)
* Changed out Humidifier, and adjusted airflow to help with VPD issues.
* VPD: 1.4 at leaf top - way too high for early veg.)
* VPD should be:
- Propagation / Early Veg Stage 0.4 - 0.8 kPa
- Late Veg / Early Flower Stage 0.8 - 1.2 kPa
- Mid / Late Flower Stage 1.2 - 1.6 kPa
- Danger Zone Below 0.4 / Over 1.6
* Transplanted all 5 to the final pot
* They now feed off of AutoPot Rez (I'll top feed if needed)
* Rez: 6.17 pH
* Rez: 2.11 EC
* PPFD: 450 / DLI: 29.16
* I'm moving them closer to 35 DLI each day.
* They'll get 40 DLI in flower
--------------------------------------------------------
04/07/22 - Notes (Day 17)
* I was able to raise the RH%, but still not enough.
* VPD: 1.3 at the leaf (too high)
* Solution: When the Previous Harvest is Dry - Add a 2nd Humidifier. Temps are mostly mid-70s
* The reservoir is dialed in:
-- EC: 2.0
-- pH: 6.01
--------------------------------------------------------
04/08/22 - Notes (Day 18)
Nothing significant
See Day 18 Stats Graphic (Included with Day 19 Stats)
--------------------------------------------------------
04/09/22 - Notes (Day 19)
Day 19 - Stats & Notes
* Sill slightly high with VPD
* But, I think today is a trim day on the last harvest.
* This means a second humidifier is coming to the rescue.
* Flip to Flower Day is set (for now): 04/26/2022 for 12/12 lighting.
* As you can see by my Tent Limitations Graphic, I may change Flip-To-Flower if certain height limitations come into play.
* If somehow these plants get to 34" from the bottom of the tent before then, I'll flip sooner.
* This decision still allows for 28 inches of stretch before light-contact issues.
--------------------------------------------------------
Day 21 (04/11/2022) - End of Week 2 of Veg
VPD Issues:
* VPD still too high. Not Dangerous though.
* Added the second humidifier to help with VPD
Ugly Leaves:
* Original damaged leaves now look like Ca or P deficiency
* Each plant will get a 250ml mixture of Cal/Mag
The Rez:
* pH had risen to 6.86 from 6.21
* I used 16 ml of pH Down to get to 5.98
* I don't mind the drift because I think it opens more nutrient doors at different pH levels.
* This is the lowest I have taken it.
* Plan to go to 5.8 pH and let drift up with the next nutrient addition.
* After all adjustments, the E.C. is now 1.95.
Coco Coir:
* This is my first grow with coco
* I buffered it well with Calcium Nitrate per Jack's Nutrients instructions
* That's why I was surprised if this is true Ca deficiency
AutoPots - Bottom Watering:
* Also, this is my first run with bottom-watering AutoPots.
* I will continue feeding on the top for a while longer
--------------------------------------------------------
Day 22 (04/12/2022) - Begin Week 3 of Veg
Cal/Mag:
I gave a lite dose (100 ml) to counter the apparent calcium deficiency.
Calcium Nitrate:
To help with yellowing leaves I gave them Nitrogen and Calcium via Calcium Nitrate
Dose: 0.150 EC (approx 75 ppm)
AutoPots:
My guess is that the bottom-up feeding hasn't met with the roots yet.
VPD:
VPD is improved since adding the second humidifier
I adjusted them to reach for 65% since 60% was barely getting the tent to maintain 54% RH
If I maintain a leaf temperature around 75ºF, I need between 64 - 66% RH.
DLI:
Maintaining around 35 DLI until flower.
Although, I am likely to start edging up soon.
There are still 2 more weeks until the flip

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 23 (04/13/22)
Biggest News of the Day:
It was "Haircut Day" in the grow tent (see photos). Yep, I hacked away at Day 23. I watched a Bill Ward video and he suggested doing this to give the undergrowth some light. I might have done this a week early. We'll see.
Feed & Treat:
Fed them their normal mix (Jack's, etc) but added in some biostimulants:
Stout MSA - mono-sicilic acid
PeptisideSP - Peptides and Amino Acids
Super Boost - Just using this stuff up. Not concentrated enough for the price
Mr. Fulvic - Fulvic Acid
Recharge - Microbial Help
New Product: Prime Superior Drench - https://primesuperior.com/
I recently purchased the concentrated version of a product called "Prime Superior Drench." It is a proprietary mix that introduces the natural symbiotic fungus "Beauveria bassiana" into the plant.
Here's the sales pitch:
The fungus is isolated from plants, grows with your plants, and brings multiple benefits to them. This can include many important properties that matter to you, including increases in yield, increases in quality, and increases in photosynthesis and metabolism. With cannabis plants, Prime Superior products have been shown to increase the levels of cannabinoids and terpenes, as well as yields. With produce, such as strawberries and tomatoes, we have seen higher Brix scores.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 24 (04/14/22)
After the haircut, yesterday they looked great. 3 of 5 were praying to the heavens.
There is some leaf-tip burn. I forgot to account for the extra nutrients in the PeptideSP.
VPD is back in check - right in the "perfect" zone
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 25 (04/15/22)
Day 25 -- E.C. Crisis
* Irie #5 (red bucket) kept looking worse and worse overnight.
* I measured the E.C. & pH and discovered the E.C. was in the Stratosphere at 5.56 (2780 PPM)
* One gallon at a time, I poured 2 gallons of R.O. water through the Coco
* It's now down to high, but reasonable, 2.1 EC (1050 ppm) and pH is 6.21
* The plan is to lower new inputs to 1.8 with a little extra Calcium to make up for flush losses
* I clipped the ugly bits off. Hopefully, a crisis was averted
--------------------------------------------------------
Day 27 (04/17/22)
The plants are starting to look healthy again.
I made a mixture of Calcium (low ppm) to help with Coco calcium issues.
--------------------------------------------------------
Day 28 (04/18/22)
Today they got a light dose of Recharge and Ca
I also gave them a second haircut
Day 29 - 04/19/22
All is well after the haircut.
I did screw up my Apera PC-60 but did not store it properly. That was a $55 mistake.
------------------------------------------------------
Day 30 - 04/20/22
Everything looks healthy.
Lots of undergrowth
Made a new Batch of Nutrients as follows:
1) 3 gal RO Water
2) 10.8 g of Jack's A
3) 3.6 g of Epsom
4) 7.2 g Jack's B
5) 5 ml Tribus
6) 5 ml Mr. Fulvic
7) 15 ml Stout mono silicic acid (MSA)
8) 15 ml Bio-cozyme
9) 3 ml Humboldt Enzymes
This produced a very acidic mix, so I used 2 ml of pH Up to level at 5.88 (Note: left low to help bring down rez in the end product)
1) E.C. was 2.2 (as in 2 high)
2) Added 3/4 gal of RO to get to 1.8 EC
Added this mixture to Rez Tank and that settled at:
1) 1.79 EC
2) 6.27 pH
------------------------------------------------------
Day 31 - 04/21/22
Rez rose to 6.62
Added 11 ml of pH Up
Settled at 6.05
Just got my Apera Pen Tip in ... will calibrate and correct the above numbers.
------------------------------------------------------
Day 32 (0422/22)
* Today, four samples were sent to Farmer Freeman for some sex testing.
* Only 4 because that was my intentional number when I ordered the test, but I just couldn’t say No to the #5 Runt (at the time).
* Overall, I am pleased with the growth so far.
* They seem to have finally connected up with AutoPot’s style of feeding.
* I haven’t watered in two days, and there has been no "droop."
* I also changed out the Mosquito Bits bag in the reservoir.
------------------------------------------------------
Day 33 - (042322)
* Gave each plant 200ml of straight calcium with an EC 0.289 @ 6.4 pH.
- 145 ppm on 500 scale
- 202 ppm on 700 scale
Made a batch of my own Cal/Mag from EDTA Calcium (1.5g), Epsom (1 tbsp) and Fulvic Acid (0.5g)
- EC 2.16
- 6.21 pH
------------------------------------------------------
Day 34 - Before & After Last Haircut (3rd) In Veg (042422)
Notes
* Last Pruning Before the Flip (See Before & After Pic)
* Gave 100 ML Homemade Cal/Mag Each
Made 3 gallons of Nutrients (Totals are X 3 Dose for 3 gallons):
* 9g Jack’s A
* 6g Jack’s B
* 3g Epsom
* 3 ml Mr. Fulvic
* 10 ML Stout MSA (mono-silicic acid)
Note: Lowered from 3.6g (A), 2.4g (B), 1.2g (Epsom) per gallon to 3g,2g,1g per gallon to make less "hot."
Results of Batch:
* EC 1.76
* pH 4.68
* Left Acidic to balance out the Rez, which had drifted to 6.69 pH
* When poured into the rez, pH batch only lowered to 6.55 pH
* I added 7ml of pH Down to finalize at 6.10 pH and EC 1.85
Tank Status:
* 3 gallons raised the tank from 9” to 14” deep of liquid nutrients
------------------------------------------------------
Day 35 (042522) - Notes & Stats
First Impressions:
* 4 out of 5 praying happily this AM, the other was just normal.
* Great Color
* No obvious deficiencies or toxicity.
* No Odor Yet.
* But after touching the leaves, there is a mint and basil essence on my fingers.
Enviroment:
* One of 2 humidifiers was not on, this moved VPD into High / Ok status
The Reservoir:
* The pH drift in the reservoir is strange - from 6.10 to 6.82 in 24 hours.
* Added 13 ML of pH down to get back to 6.12 pH.
* EC is within normal drift expectations - from 1.85 to 1.81 in 24 hours.
* Did not top amend with my homemade Ca/Mg, but the day is still young.
Day 36 - 042622 - LST Begins
I did give them my Cal/Mag after all. 100 ml
Every other day may be enough to get them ready for the flower flip.
Yesterday was also the first day of LST.
- Main Stem Bent Over Last night.
- Leaf tucking this morning.
Photos are iPhone pics taken last night within minutes of training.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Day 39 (042922)
Flipped to flower early.
Just one day.
Day 37 - (042722)
100ml homemade Cal/Mag
Every other day seems to be working
Good color
Waiting on Sex Tests
I wish they were growing faster
Sex Test REsults (see graphic above):
As of right now only 1 of 4 (possibly 2) are female.
I'm going to get the Red Bucket tested now.
I ordered 5 more tests.
This time from Rimrock out of Colorado.
Five so that next time I can get the testing done while still in solo cups.
I could wait for balls to appear, but I was curious how all this worked.
It is incredibly convenient, especially if you do it early enough.
I'm still 3 weeks away from seeing if Red Bucket is M/F
So might well use this time to vet vendors.
he life of a seed tester... BUMMER news. I got the sex tests back, and only 1 of 4 (possibly 2) are female. Ugh!
Since I have quite a while from the Red Bucket presenting sex, I ordered a test for that one. Next time I do this, it will happen at the Solo Cup Stage.
I also ordered 4 shut-off valves so that I can reconfigure my AutoPots to be individually controlled. My tent of 5 is about to be a tent of 1. So, I want to pull out the other pots and get them cleaned up.
Find the positive... less trimming.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Day 38 - 042822
Rez Level: 10"
Added 750 ml to Red Bucket
VPD is back on track
----------------------------------------------------------------
Day 39 - 042922
Everything looks good.
Some tip burn on Irie 1
They are ready to flip on May 2.
Still waiting on the results from the sex test.
Two of the 3 could get yanked.
Rez jumped up to 2.52, added 1/2 gal of RO - Now 1.6
I will bring that up.
PK Boost Begins Soon
PK Boost Recipe (per gallon):
2.0g Jack's A
2.0g Jack's B
2.0g Epsom
1.2g M-K-P
Day 41 - (050122)
* I was supposed to post that today is officially Day 1 of Flower.
* But, I had my timer’s time right, but had AM/PM mixed up.
* So, 24 hours of light and at 6 AM I start 12 hours darkness.
* Good News - Irie 3 Came back as a Female
* I still need to send out red bucket once materials arrive
* Red Bucket needs my homemade Ca / Mg every day
* See Pairs Photo for Irie 5
----------------------------------------------------------
Day 42 (050222)

----------------------------------------------------------
Day 44 - First Full Day of Flower
- Reservoir dropped an 1.5 inches over 24 hours with 2 plants drinking (12.5" to 11")
- pH upward creep is disturbing (6.4 to 6.65 overnite)
- pH Down to 6.3
- I’m ok with the drift, as the changes open some doors a little wider for element uptake
- Gave each plant 50 ml of my homemade Ca/Mg (1/2 of what I have been doing)
- Germinating one (1) Purple Haze Auto & one (1) Jack Herer
- I think I saw that the Purple Haze was breaking through.
- Doing my best not to over water
- Switched lights to DLI 36-ish (PPFD 830) before the lights went out this AM
----------------------------------------------------------

062722 - Day 98 - Flower Day 55: The yellowing is strong. Most of the leaves that look yellow still have a nice feel to them. However, some on Irie #1 are drying and curling up. Irie 3 is ahead of #1 when it comes to amber trichomes. Tomorrow is the end of week 8 of flower, so I'm pretty sure Irie #1 will go the full 9 weeks. Irie #3 is officially on Suicide Watch. 😀

The Machine had a somewhat similar structure but the fade and better density
Suggests Morning Dew.
Final answer. 😋
