Hello fellow growers!! It is a great day in The_Good_Twin grow room!
I began attempting to germinate a few seeds the other day using the wet paper towel method, and so far so good. My first seed to completely germinate was a seed for a plant that I have grown before… DarkStar, by T.H. Seeds.
I absolutely adore this cultivar! It is easily my favorite, and also the favorite of my lovely wife, who in fact celebrates her birthday today!! Celebrations all around on this glorious day!
After seeing that the seed had germinated, I began to get her first home all set up for her. A large red solo cup with 4 decent sized holes burned into the bottom with a lighter for proper drainage of excess water.
I filled it with FoxFarm Ocean Forest potting soil and applied enough water to ensure that it was moist throughout. Then I used my finger to create a small hole in the middle of the soil about 1 1/2 inch deep.
I then took a pic of the germinated seed on the towel then delicately placed it into a soaked Root Riot starter cube that I cut open on one flat side so that I could place the germinated seed appropriately into place with the tail down. I then placed the Root Riot starter cube into the hole in the soil I had previously made so that it was snug into place. Water was then lightly applied to secure it.
I labeled both cups with the name of the plant and then placed it into her first home while waiting for her two future tent mates to completely germinate.
I placed her inside a small, portable, and soft, beach cooler that is lined with a reflective surface. I then started giving her light from the same small desk lamp that I’ve used in the past with a CFL light positioned 6 inches directly over it.
I will not be using any additional nutrients until much later because I intend to allow the plant to utilize the nutrients in its soil first. One of the other seeds is already showing a small tail, and I can see the telltale white tail starting to show itself on the third; so with continued luck, I should have all 3 set up and beginning their grow journey soon.
It’s good to be back!! Happy growing everyone!!
@guerilla,
No, but that would be nice (automated feeding). I skipped a day on purpose to show that skipping 4 days would be much, much worse. I added some pics from today to show how she’s doing now. You can take a look if you’re so inclined. Have a good day.
@guerilla,
I skipped a feed day to show my wife what would happen to my plants after skipping 1 day. The reason is that we are/were going out of town for about 4 - 6 days in July. This was to show the detriment to my plants if I were to make that trip to my wife so that she herself could see that such a trip at this stage would not be wise. I believe the lower Rh is due to heat, and skipped feeding day. Stay tuned to see how it works out.
@guerilla,
Yes. It’s much warmer than it usually is, but it tends to fluctuate a little higher at times when we have several really hot (94-96F) days strung together. They tend to handle the heat well and don’t have any issues in that regard. Skipping a feeding day during a heatwave is probably not the best thing either.
