MagicMikesMeds These clones were taken from my Mandarin Hayes plant which was four weeks into flower in a technique known as “Monster Cropping.” The benefit of the technique is that it creates naturally branchy plants with lots of offshoots. The clones are taken at the end of Week 4 of flower, and the clippings I take are any buds that don’t look like they’ll either make the canopy, or ones that will be insubstantial final buds. The process of cloning while reverting the clone back to the vegetative light cycle has a noticeable effect on the final plant. While the genetics will be identical to the plant in which the clone wasn’t taken, the plant will require significantly less training to get to a flat bushy plant. I monster cropped clones last year and the resulting plants were “Monsterous” compared to their mothers, so am I greatly anticipating filling my 5x5 with 4 of the finest cuts from this cloning run.

MagicMikesMeds The Monster Cropped clones took about a week to start showing roots. The pictures in this week journal have been taken throughout the 2nd week in the cloner. I currently have 1 Mandarin Haze, 2 Jack 47’s, & 1 Skunk Diesel in my garden but I only took clones from the Jack 47 & the Mandarin Haze. All of the red discs have Mandarin Haze, and at this point there isn’t only 1 remaining Jack 47 which has a blue disc with a “J” on it. I will only be running the Mandarin Haze again, but took the other clones as insurance. Clones are looking great overall and I should easily have 4 nice Monster Cropped Clones to fill my 5x5

MagicMikesMeds Unfortunately I decided to 86 my monster cropped Mandarin Haze plants because I had some heat issues which lead to the onset of root rot. I could have worked to save them, but I had a 5 pack of genetics waiting to be grown. It was a shame because the Mandarin Haze plant in which the clones were taken yielded me 410 grams of Grade A flower with zero larf. I most certainly will be growing this strain again.

I'm curious to see how the monster cropping goes. I got a clone that was unintentionally monster cropped by the weather and it's pretty strange looking.

@Beans, I have used this technique with overwhelming success in the past. My last harvest was 2 Cherry Bombs by Bomb Seeds, and 1 Red Diesel by Barney’s Farm. The smallest of the 3 monster cropped plants yielded 11.5 oz’s with a 3 plant total of 37.25 oz’s. I have videos on YouTube under my same username. Here is the link to the harvest video to see what they look like: https://youtu.be/OiC2Wnv-544

I’m glad I read your update about cuttings taking 2 weeks to root. I have the same rooting system I’m yet to try but you have inspired me to give it a try in next couple of weeks.

@Morbiddave, if you take your clippings in Veg they may root a little quicker. I take my clones 4 weeks into flower and revert them back to the 18-6 light cycle while rooting them. The key is to use a little cloning gel and make sure that the tips are not touching the water. You want them to get splashed by the popping bubbles from the air stone. I took about 20 clippings and have about 12 remaining. 8 have moved on from this world, but if you remove them as soon as you see the stem decaying you should be all set. Best of luck, and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!!!

Thanks I'll check it out. I'm just starting out and gonna finish my 1st harvest tomorrow. Any tips or tricks are much appreciated! I'm all in on this and wont rest until I have a sound working knowledge of everything about growing. Planning on making this my hobby for the next 30-40yrs.

Nice one for that advice...the cloning system I have has a sprayer attachment with a pump which when I plugged it in it seemed quite aggressive with the spraying. I will try it with a airstone I think. I have strain called wedding cake I’m currently growing about 6 weeks vegging which I’ll be taking cuttings from in the next week or so. I’ll keep you posted and if I get stuck I’ll drop you a message. Thanks again

That's a bummer man I'm sorry. I was looking forward to seeing what monster cropping is capable of .

@Beans, if you look at my YouTube channel under the username Magic Mikes Meds I have a video of monster cropped cherry bombs and red diesel. I’ll do a monster crop again at some point and post a journal, but not this time. I just started germinating some Gorilla Bomb Seeds for my next grow which will be journaled as well starting in the next week.

@MagicMikesMeds,right on I will check it out. My monster cropped plant had like a month of crazy growth. Went from tiny in comparison to noticeably bigger than its tent neighbor.

what happened here?
MagicMikesMeds
MagicMikesMedscommented7y ago
@bobo420, I had to leave town for a weekend preventing me from being able to keep the reservoir cold enough, and when I came back my roots were starting to turn black. I’m sure I could have worked to fight off onset of root rot, however, I am not a fan of fighting issues like that before I even transplant into the recirculating system, so I decided to scrap them and sprout some beans that I had lying around...

@bobo420, unfortunately I needed to leave town for a weekend and was unable to keep my reservoir cold enough. When I came back the base of the stems were turning black. The roots themselves were not that bad, but I really don’t like putting plants into the recirculating system unless they are in pristine condition. So instead of fighting to save the clones I had some beans sitting around that I decided to sprout. Once they sprout I’ll start up a new journal/video series

@bobo420, thanks Bobo. I should be posting some updated images of both the clones as well as the Mandarin Haze that I have in flower with 3 weeks to go.
the end.
