I was looking at my SS Super Skunk momma and notice that while cutting clones off of her this spring I created a very nice base with many tops and thought to myself, “that would make a great SCROG.”
.
The nutrient line I’m using is a dry powder and measured by the grams per liter or gallon. Since the measurements here don’t include that measurement so I will just post as ml/gal meaning grams per gallon.
.
She will be in an AutoPot system being bottom fed from a reservoir. Her home is a 3x3 tent with a garden fencing being used as the SCROG. It has 2x3 inch holes and is vinyl coated. My lights are individual COBS called AutoCobs. I have four 55 watt 3500k AutoCOBs which are made with the Citizen Clu-048-1812 90cri COB. They can be hung independently of each other which is a real help in some situations.

All questions, comments, and criticisms are welcome here. I’m not a new grower, but am new to SCROGing a plant out.
Week 2 of veg under the screen and we had a couple issues crop up. Both related to each other. The lights were too close and since heat is not an issue the plant was trying to figure out how to use all those photons and she started to show the start of some serious cal/mag issues along with others. The pH has been steady between 6.4 and 6.6 so lockout problems I thought not. First thing first I moved the COBs up to 32 inches.
I then remembered that that mother plant had been sucking her original medium dry of nutrients over a three month period before being uppotted to this and I really did not breakup the root mass like I should have thus trapping all that old dirt in it. So I upped the amount of Mega Crop and added their cal/mag supplement along with their Sugar Candy additive.
Issues started to look better and she started stretching out under the screen faster. I have been re-tucking the bud sites out a little more everyday. She has filled almost 2/3 of the screen and since I really don’t know what I’m doing, I’m flipping her light schedule to 12/12 after today. Then she can start her stretch and hopefully the rest of the screen gets filled in rather quickly.
Starting to learn a mistake I might have started out with this SCROG and that’s being impatient. I should have been letting the new growth get 2 inches higher before tucking again. Just a mental note for my next SCROG.
Anyhow here we are 5 days since the flip and still no sign of preflower and tucking every couple days. She seems to be loving the 4gpg of MC and additives with just the slightest tip burn. You really have to go looking for it. She drinks on average an inch from the reservoir daily.
I managed to stretch her out a little more under the screen. I don’t expect to completely fill it with just one, mostly indica, plant but it has been fun trying. Looks like I have 75% covered so far and I would be happy with that. I think I am at the point where I should let her start stretching upwards. I’ve never done this before so any advice would be welcome. Do we have any SCROGing experts around here?
In reading recently it seems SCROGing a mother plant is rarely done or suggested. Not sure why, but I guess we shall find out. Anyhow here she is today at lights on. I did tuck one or two really long shoots but for the most part it’s untouched today. Look under her skirts for an added surprise.
After spending some time under the screen cleaning out foliage I decided I had made the scroggers first mistake, I didn’t allow for enough room under the screen for “easy” maintenance and before she gets bigger, I better do something. So I got a stool which sits a little over 8 inches tall and cut the screen loose from the spring clamps holding it in place allowing me to move up and down freely. Then a little bit of yoga and gymnastics and I managed to get the autopot tray, pot, and plant on top of it without ripping her apart. I moved the AutoCobs up to the ceiling to maintain my 30 inches of separation.
By the way I don’t recommend doing it this way. Plan ahead and make sure you don’t have this issue in the future.
I also added another 5 gallons of nutrients to the reservoir. It was down to one inch. She showed signs of preflower and has grown 3-4 inches above the screen.
As always, if you see something, feel free to say something. Questions please ask them.
Went through another five gallons of nutrients. Mixed up the next batch with another .5g per gallon bring it up to 5g per gallon. Still no signs of nutrient burn. Tops are now 8-10 inches above the screen and have stopped stretching and have started to fill in. A take as few fan leaves off as possible. I just look over the tops every night and remove a few that might be shading bud sites. I also go under her skirts daily to remove any suckers or dying material.
I also added a 2700k AutoCob to the mix to give a little boost to the flowering.
Pretty much just a photo update this week.
The girl has gone thru 5+ gallons this week and I pushed the Mega Crop up a little more to an EC of 2.33, but the next two days I started to see nutrient burn on the very tips, so I added two liters of pure water which brought the EC down to 2.15 or 1075ppm. I do believe I’m at the max base nutes this lady can handle.
Starting with the next reservoir fill up I’m going to start lowering my base nutes and upping my p/k booster, Bud Explosion, by the same percentage. This is in preparation for trying what some call the MedMan method. In the last two weeks of bloom he switches to half the base nutes and doubles the P/K booster. I plan on working my way to that over the next two weeks before the final two weeks.
Thanks for stopping by. Any comment, questions, suggestions, or criticisms are welcome.
Buds are filling in nicely. Been thinking about revegging this girl after I harvest the buds above the screen. I have cut the base nutes in half and double the bloom nutrients.
10 liters solution
0.75gpl MC 7.5g
0.339gpl CM 3.39g
0.36gpl BE 3.6g
0.50gpl SC 5.0g
Getting closer every day. Probably just another week before harvest. The darker photos were taken under natural light.
Added 20 liters solution 6.42pH 1.92 EC
0.66gpl MC 13.2g
0.50gpl BE 10.0g
0.70gpl SC 14.0g
Will be harvesting the top of the scrog in a couple of days. Then I will start a reveg of the plant by switching the lights back to 24/0. I want this growto have a harvest and be finished so I will start a new grow journal for that process. Might also pull out my CS and try reversing a couple buds so they produce feminized pollen, so watch out for that grow as it might be full of lots of experiment.
Added 19 liters with
0.50gpl BE 9.5g
0.70gpl SC 13.3g
PH to 6.40
Awesome. I’m doing a Super Skunk in the exact same style. Almost identical.
Can’t wait to see how yours turns out. I’m still 2-3 weeks away from flipping to flower as I want to fill my 120cm x 120cm canopy as much as I can. I’m about to start a journal on it so if you’re interested, check it out when it’s up. Good luck!
@HemiSync, no worries bro. When I get around to it, I will start a diary for them and get it up to speed. I’m currently at Day 11 of flower, so I have some uploading to get done.
Im totally new to growing indoors or at all, the whole raise the plant to help push it the scrog screen...genious. Im def gonna follow use for helpful tips like that. Keep up the good work. They look great!
@Greenthumb4488,
Thanks for the kind words. I actually raised the pot to add more room under the net to be able to get under her and clean up all the foliage under the screen. Now the buds are getting so close to my lights I might have to lower her back down again. Not a task I wish to do.
@Tophat,
Thanks, I’m hoping it just produces bud, I will work on filling the tent next time. 😂 This is just my training wheels run. Next time I’ll do it right with a new plant, not an old mother.
@simps,
Thanks for the kind words. I agree they are from the soil. I use mushroom compost in my mix, but they don’t normally show mushrooms. The mix must be on track if it’s able to grow mushrooms.
