Starting out Mephisto's well known, Double Grape! Trying something new for the germination method this time. Typical method is shot glass with distilled water. Soak seed for 24hrs then the paper towel method for another 24hrs +. This time I'm going straight from the shot glass into the soil/final container. 7 gallon fabric pot
She certainly took her sweet time popping soil. Had me worried there for a minute! I probably won't do the straight to soil method again. I prefer to know what's going on. It also seemed to have taken longer using this method. Paper towel method for me moving forward.
Anyway, so far, so good!
All is going well so far in this grow. She seems to be avoiding the sohum and keeping her roots in the happy frog.
Wish I had added perlite to the sohum first to make watering easier. Using a spray bottle to moisten the soil first seems to help with watering.
As you can see from the photos, she seems to be digging her home. At this point, she must be getting into the sohum so I'd say she likes it!
I'm dropping the humidity every few days. Planning to get her and keep her at 40% or as close as I can get.
Btw she's just getting water from a zero pitcher. No pHing, no additives.
She'll be out of this tent around day 22ish. She'll flower under a scorpion diablo by hlg.
Well, some updates. First and foremost. She was put under a new light (scorpion diablo) and put in a new tent. (AC infinity 4x4) One day later, she's flowering. Could just be coincidence but seems odd I see flowering signs the very next day. Good news is, she still looks healthy. More bad news is, she's pretty small still. Let's see what happens though! Who knows!
PS - for the nutrient section, it makes me show amount of nutrients added of sohum but it's obviously not something I keep adding so ignore that.
Currently on day 32 as I write this. I know she's got a long way to go but I'm really hoping she physically gets bigger. Not just the bud sites.
I'm finding it fairly easy to spread her out on the positive side. I missed the center of the pot with my solo cup at germination so that's why she's taking up one side of the pot like that.
Best thing over all is she looks healthy to me. I've yet to add a thing but water. Based on her size I probably could've gotten away with a 5 gallon.
She's gettin' in the 500-600 ppfd range. You learn something every day and today I learned about DLI. My autos get 18hrs of light, anything more than 600 will nuke um. Hope it doesn't affect density.
Will update the post with more pictures as time goes on
Sorry for the update delay. I think I got confused on the germination week and when to start the diary. Wanted to wait until I was actually into week 6 of life and week 3 of flowering which started today before posting again.
I stopped LSTing almost a week ago. Waited until I got the canopy as close to even as possible before pulling off the pipe cleaners.
She's still a small girl but my oh my is she getting frosty. Not a ton of smell hits you when you open the tent but if you touch one of the sugar leaves and smell your fingers, she smells like grape big league chew. Took me a while to pinpoint that childhood smell but I remembered last night haha.
Watering every 3-4 days now. Fully saturating the soil and waiting for light weight before watering again.
She seems to be loving the sohum! Zero signs of deficiencies. Good stuff.
As usual, I'll keep adding to the pics throughout the week.
Big milestone this week. She was left alone for the first time while I was in vacation for 5 days. I watered before I left. She did just fine. Nice having the 7 gallon bag. Much less watering.
I'm a little concerned with the yellow leaves I'm seeing. The sohum is either running out of food or it's just natural end of life fading. Hard to tell. Mephisto calls for 65-70 from seed. Which is right around the corner. Tuff call on whether or not I should top dress?
Oooo wee she getting frosty. I've chalked the bottom yellowing leaves up to fading. According to mephisto, she should be just about there. Based on what I'm seeing on the trichs, not much longer. Cloudy right now. Soon as I see amber, chopppp. The sugar leaves aren't even showing amber yet and those mature faster. So, still time.
Anyway, will add more photos as time goes on.
Well, today marks day 67 for her. I'm so very impressed by the sohum. Granted, she's kinda runty but it's kept her happy throughout the entire grow.
Gave a cola a light squeeze today and my goodness is she hard. She also smells delicious and is ultra sticky.
She doesn't have much time left. Maybe a few days, tops!
While I didn't end up with a massive plant/harvest, this was a breeze to grow. I'm really impressed with sohum and am starting another seed in it now. Water Only the entire grow.
Buds are rock hard so I'm super impressed. Kept them at no more than 600 ppfd. Hlg is the best out there in my humble opinion.
Buds are in a grove bag right now but I'm going to be trying one soon. Trying to wait 3 weeks but it's so difficult! Lol
@Tegridy_Green, of course! That's what this site is about right? Appreciating the beauty of this plant. God I'm high as fuck. Lol.
Nice southpark pic too. I've been keeping up with the new movies they have been dropping! Good shit!
Mine is about 16 to 20 inches tall.i don't top my autos.it always seems to slow them down if I do.im not sure if you did or not.some take it ok and some it really slows down.
@Tegridy_Green,it's all good.ya some times autos are just small too.i try to stress them as least as possible.its hard when you need to defoliate though.some times they are too bushy to just tuck leaves.
@Chronicbastard, no, I don't top normally but I do LST the hell out of my plants. This double grape did flower earlier than any others I've grown. I think at day 23 or something. Ah well, we'll see what she produces. Thanks for having a look!
What's up TG? I just got 7 of these bad girls this week. I was starting to think that the buds on this strain grew airy by default. Glad I found your post. Those buds look rock hard and BEAUTIFUL! I see why. You had a lot of light in that 4x4 space. Big fan of that. Plus the amended soil is killer; and obviously you have skills. I have a 2x4x5 tent with 400w of led. I grow in 40% coco/40% Coast Of Maine amended soil for cannabis and 20% Perlite. Buds are always super dense. Feeling a lot better about my purchase. Thanks brother and congrats on your grow. 😀👍
