I had these for my brother's birthday, but even though he wanted them he vanished.
I think that he is not well, as I heard he was in hospital before discharging himself and disappearing...
So I will grow them for him, for when he decides to show himself again :)
(Which I hope will be soon, as I am worried for him...)
To start this one off, I use a peat-free compost disc from Growit and then pop this into a fibre cup that is filled with regular potting soil.
Without any cover, it goes into a box and then is placed in the boiler cupboard for some warmth because it is quite cold outside still.
Now - to try to be patient and wait for it to pop up! :D
The RQS CBD mix have popped up nicely. Medical Mass was 3rd to come up :)
Unfortunately, Royal Medic didn't germinate...
It took over a week for them all to germinate, and a bit longer past that to push out, so I am thinking that the temperature was a bit too low still - it has been almost freezing at night..!
There's no issue with seed shells being stuck or ripping leaves or stems.
The propagation light was a Favrison Castnoo 54LED, that was advertised as being as good as a 300w HPS, but it was really more like 3w :d
I tried using two, but that didn't help - they are no good at all, really - may as well use the window ledge!
That's gone in the trash..!
So, this guy is going under the MarsHydro TS-600, which is a 100w LED and is a quality light, imo :)
This week has been a little warmer - especially at night.
Overnight, they've been going under the light. During the day, sitting out the front in the sunshine.
Switching the light seems to have helped, although this guy is still the least developed of the bunch.
I think it's the temperature, as well as having such a low power light during the first week.
Either way - the plant is looking healthy and seems to be developing better than it would outside.
Going under the light at night is really helping..!
Medical Mass is coming along pretty well. It's looking nice and regular :)
Being outside in the breeze, the stems are becoming a little stronger with the agitation.
They've been watered once or twice only this week. I think that the roots will be ok.
When the roots start to break through the fibre cups, they will be potted into some square, plastic pots.
The potting soil is a mix:
- The bottom layer is some dug from the garden, with a handful of pebbles
- A layer of regular potting soil, a few handfuls, is spread over this
- Then a layer of houseplant potting mix, which is good at retaining moisture to seep into the other soil, and also contains some extra nutrients similar to that provided by leaf mulch and other things.
- Handfuls are then mixed on top of this, so as to create striations of soil and mulch
- Near the top, a handful of blood, bone and fish is mixed in to the layers
- Before the final layers, some tree & shrub powder is mixed in as well. This contains some friendly fungus mix to help out :)
This recreates the same type of soil that is in the garden, as each year the leaves and flowers mulch and then top-soil is washed over it, plus anything else that dies and decomposes to enrich the soil.
Potting into the square plastic pots is useful not only for cramming them into a smaller space under the lights, but the lips are useful for tying stuff down, as well as poking holes in the sides in order to secure any wires or strings.
I use these for starting off bonsai plants, before moving them into very shallow ceramic pots once they are a few years old.
Medical Mass isn't the most developed, but it starts to look really healthy after getting used to the new environment under the lights :)
The leaves are splaying out and it is really putting in some fast growth, now that it is getting a good dose of photonic radiation!
Medical Mass appears to have developed enough to be chopped, even if the shoots are a little small.
I want to keep everything on schedule - so... I'm sorry MM, but you're gonna have to put in some extra effort!
There's no need to feed it right now, as the soil mix in the pot will have enough to keep it going for a while longer yet.
The plant will let me know when it needs more fodder.
I might water it with a bit of cal-mag and the Terra Aquatic Tri-nutrients mixed in...
MM is working well with the TS-600 (100w) bathing it for a little over 18hrs a day at the moment, but I think that it could do with more from the get-go, like Royal Highness probably needed. It could've done with being under the 150w from the start, I think.
After the chop, it will be transferred to the TS-1000, which is a slightly more powerful light (150w), to give it an extra boost.
This light will be the one used for flowering, but currently has a few autos I am trying out - the space is limited right now, but I think that it will fit in ok.
It was a bit of a shame to lose the top, but it's preferable to have it split a few times for a regular growth pattern.
The top will hopefully produce a nice clone for someone else to look after.
A good gift to give away..! :D
The fan leaves have been left on the new shoots, as they are a little small.
It has only taken a few hours to recover, though - it is already putting in new growth to the tips :)
Good job, MM!
//
MM is recovering well, but is still a bit small to remove those lower fan leaves - they are to be removed when the next split comes, next week.
The new spurs are big enough to be trained to be more flat, though - I have no idea how tall these guys get, so I'm choosing cautious and level-headed over stylish twists and flair.
//
I'm sorry MM, I was in a bit of a mood because of gnats and breaking the growth tip off of Highness... so I've gone pretty hard on you today.
I know you can take it, and I don't mind you being small... I just want you to forgive me.
Medical mass is still tiny!
Again, I'm unsure if I can split it to 8 - I was planning to... We'll have to see in a few weeks.
The temperature is still a bit low, which I am unsure if Medical Mass likes.
Its leaves are a little more like Danceworld's than the others - I can't remember which one is related to Danceworld... I think it's Royal Highness...
Ah, yes - Medical Mass is:
Critical Mass x "CBD Dominant plant" lol ok...
Huh, RQS also do a CBG one - I have no idea about this CBG other than what I have read in a few articles, which don't say anything much about it. It's autoflowering, tho... and also the 2nd most expensive seed that RQS sell (THCV is the most expensive).
Well... Medical Mass has around 10% THC, which is much higher than I thought, and is mostly indica (60:40).
OK, well... i'll keep that in mind.
Oh my!
This one is turning out to be one of my favourites from the RQS CBD mix...
Well - they all are, in their way - but this guy has luxurious foliage and it just feels... good! :D
I've corrected the stem, twisting it into right angles with the pot so that it's easier to maintain an even shape and also to fit it in the growspace with the others.
Other than that, all I've had to do is trim off some low fan leaves to encourage the others to grow to keep up the supply, and tie it down.
I felt bad to cut off the leaves, as they are nice, but .. well... like hair - it grows..!
We're in no rush, are we, Medical Mass? No... you can all grow as much as you want and I'll only flower you when I think you're ready :D
(when the autos are out :P)
These are the last of the regular seeds I have - the rest are all autos... so, I'll probably stick a few in at 12-12 as an experiment in how they do compared to 20-4, as the price of electric lately is becoming a dent in the wallet.
I love my plants, and I love growing things - it's pretty much the only thing I do that's productive, other than the art and stuff.
A band that seemed enthusiastic for me to do their cover have been ignoring me lately - perhaps they have never been taught how to say, "no thanks" - so I'm only consuming and providing many people with jobs by not being super-productive any longer.
All I want to do is chill, play xbox, tend to my garden and grow my plants and herbs in my room.
I've lost interest in the outside world - but that's fine!
Because all I am doing is that stuff, and I'm still alive and I'm happy! :D
I hope that the plants I shelter and tend can sense this, and pick up on the vibes I send to them, and all the love I have for them.
Medical Mass smells a little like green, mint... but has a strong alpha-pinene smell, with an undertone of limonene.
So I think it is a more indica dominant plant, but definitely with some sativa - likely, same as Royal Highness - a fair amount of ruderalis.
This ought to be a good one.
