Kicking off the outdoor grow with a couple different seeds here. The Northern Lights are the seeds I purchased and grew in my first journal; that one is wrapping up this weekend and I'll begin drying those. I'm going to do my best to take the lessons learned there and apply them here, though it'll be a bit different since I'm doing these outdoors with my vegetables. I got these two Trainwreck seeds as a little bonus when I bought the Northern Lights pack, I want to say they are photoperiod but all I can find on the company's website is autoflower, so we'll see how those turn out. Lastly I was given a bunch of seeds from a friend, says they're called Cherry Pie. Figured I'd pop them in and see what happens! I had 100% success with this germination method last time so no reason to change things up. I'll plant them outside this weekend and we'll go from there. 6/2/22 - Planted the seeds directly into their final spots. One Cherry Pie seed was placed in a raised bed, the rest I've kept in fabric pots so I can move them around as needed. Hoping to get some agastache and lavender going to blend in with them. Northern Lights seeds looked the best, both had taproots growing out, one had sunk and the other still floating a bit. One of them is in a 5gal plant, the other in a 3 gal. Trainwreck likewise looked good, taproots growing out and one had sunk as well, just the same situation. Both in 3gal pots. Using Ocean Forest again for both of these strains. The Cherry Pie seeds, one sank and the other two were floating a little, no taproots on either but the seeds were starting to crack it seems. Not too concerned about these ones, I'm mainly just running them for fun to see what happens. They aren't feminized like the other two strains so I'll be keeping them separated as best I can. Using a blend of coco and homemade compost for these. The one in the garden bed is just in the soil there, can't speak to how well it will do but the garlic and strawberries I have growing in that bed are robust and very healthy. 6/4/22 - Removed the humidity domes for the two Trainwreck and Northern Lights seedlings; they've popped out of the soil. No activity with the Cherry Pie seeds but honestly I'm not expecting much, will keep an eye on them regardless.

6/11/22 - Been raining quite a bit so I haven't watered myself, will likely do that either Monday or Tuesday. Things looking fine so far, may water with a tiny amount of nutrients just to give them a boost, we'll see. Will update next when I water. 6/15/22 - Alas...it looks like some little critter destroyed one of the northern lights seedlings, found a little digging in the pot and the stem had been practically snapped off. I don't think the plant can repair itself but I sort of buried it a bit to give it a chance, but I doubt it can survive. I'll need to be more careful about securing them at night. I did water on Monday and gave them just a little bit of Grow Big for a little boost. It's looking to be dry this week so I'll likely water them again tomorrow or Friday.

6/17/22 - I planted a few more of those Cherry Pie seeds, figured why not! We'll see what happens. Otherwise watered the four plants remaining, 400ml each. They seem to be getting a good amount of water from the rain throughout the week. It was almost 100F outside this past week so I've watered a little bit more than normal. So far so good, will need to start them on a nutrient schedule in just a bit, but for now I'm just dipping .5tsp of Grow Big into a gallon of water and dividing that up between the four pots. Pics are of the two Trainwrecks and Northern Lights. 6/21/22 - Rained a bit earlier this week and a little last night. I've also mulched the pots a bit so hoping that helps. Still just moving them around with the sun in the morning then putting them back on the deck at the end of the day. Will probably up the nutrients on the Friday watering, they're all more or less in the same place. The other Cherry Pie seeds I tried planting didn't sprout it seems, not too worried about that; just poor seeds I think! I have no problems at all with the seeds I purchased. Bummer some little animal destroyed one of the Northern Lights but that's the risk of being outside! 6/22/22 - Gave them a quick water today, 600ml each, did like 400ml around the perimeter and 200ml down the center. Decided to give them water because I hadn't truly watered since last Friday and they were feeling a little light. It's also been insanely hot this week; high 90s, it was 80 at midnight last night! Plants look good and are mulched so they should be fine with this watering until the weekend. Two of the three other Cherry Pie seeds actually did sprout, so we'll see how those do!

6/24/22 - Just moved them into the sun, no watering today. Will probably water next on Sunday or so, just depends on how they're doing. Will start the vegetation nutrients as well, AND need to try LST on at least a few of them...the window for doing that is starting to close pretty quick I think. Might do that later today, will update if so. Otherwise not much else to report, they're all growing nicely so far. 6/26/22 - Rained last night so will likely hold off on watering myself. Think I let these go too long before LST so will just try that on my two indoor ones. 6/27/22 - Gave them all 1600ml of 6.5ph water, that should tide them over for quite a bit. No rain in the forecast so I'm planning on that covering them until next week's update. Will keep an eye on them of course. 200ml for the seedling.

7/1/22 - Rain in the forecast but it seems to be on and off, cloudy out so will just let them stay put. If it doesn't rain I'll water them tomorrow morning, they seem to be doing well with the water they got last week. Gotta say the growth has been explosive...truly the sun is the greatest energy source......... Pic of a little big hanging out on the leaf, I sent him on his way after the pic :) Did rain for an hour or so today, just noting for the future. 7/4/22 - One of the plants was drooping so I gave them all water; 1200ml each. Will start veg nutrients next time I water them. 7/5/22 - Rained early this morning, just logging for future reference. 7/7/22 - That same plant keeps drooping...gave it 800ml but concerned that it droops so much after consistent watering.

7/10/22 - Rained on 7/8/22 so no nutrients yet. Next time I need to water them myself I'll add those in. I'm just going to call this week vegetation, I can see one of them in pre-flower, nice, so next week I'll set it to flowering. Still keeping an eye on the cherry pie to see its gender. Otherwise they seem to be growing nicely, just very tall and somewhat sparse. 11:30am - Actually forget that B] 1200ml each 6.5ph It's weird, they seem to droop a little when I put them in full sun first thing in the morning. One of them seems to aim the very top of its main cola at the sun, very interesting. Addendum to above; they perked back up after some water, these things just may be a lot thirstier than my last indoor ones since they're outside and growing really tall. Will just try to respond and check the soil as often as I can. Mulch should be helping a bit at least. 7/12/22 - 800ml to the one that's always drooping when I put it in the sun. May just need to do this one every other day, or up the amounts to 1600ml moving forward. 7/14/22 - Did some emergency watering, they're drooping quite poorly. It rained practically all day yesterday and some last night, but I believe the canopy and mulch block much of the rain from getting to the soil. I'll need to start watering every other day with these ones I think. Hoping they don't get stunted from this like my one 3gal from last time. Will try to help them recover. Alright, took some action and gave them roughly 1600ml each with the nutrients above. I believe I'm correct that rain is more or less not getting to the soil unless it's prolonged and very heavy. In some ways this is beneficial because it lets me control the watering, but I'm hoping I didn't cause too much harm to these things until now. Will keep monitoring and update on Saturday most likely. Starting to notice the yellowing creeping up again, hoping the nutrients will help with that.

7/17/22 - Going to water every other day from now on, 1600ml each. They're all stuck in vegetation except one, might have just stunted and ruined them.

7/24/22 - 8] I realized recently that the Trainwreck plants are photoperiod, so sort of explains why they aren't flowering yet. The one that's in flower right now is the Northern Lights Auto, so just using bloom nutrients on that one, still giving the others vegetating nutrients. I've found I have to give them at least half a gal of water per day, so that's where we're at. Been storming and raining quite a bit, but I just lift and feel how heavy the pots are and if they're super light, give em the water. Will definitely use bigger pots next time for outdoor, maybe like 10gal.

7/31/22 - Giving them half a gallon each every morning, nutrients on Sundays. The one auto flower is blooming nicely, others are steadily growing. Will just keep at it, I move them around each day for maximum sunlight.

Grow Questions

I'm assuming this is bud rot, primarily on the main cola. If so, should I just slice that entire thing off (ouch...) to try to save the rest of the plant? Took a pic of the main fain leaves showing them drained of color and rotting at the tips. Possibly spreading? Harvest now?

I can tell you from first hand experience, you've definitely got bud rot... and yes, it DOES spread. What you should do here is cut out the rot completely (unless it's on a small bud, you don't have to take the entire bud off) and if you're NOT going to harvest, spray the area with a 1% hydrogen peroxide solution. Work on ONLY one site at a time, sterilizing your utensils between each site. Thoroughly examine each bud... if you see dead leaves on a bud, that's a site of bud rot - you might only see one or two leaves that are dead but that just means the bud rot has only just started there... Again, if you decide NOT to harvest right now, you will have to examine each bud minutely every day - because it spreads and spreads and spreads... My recommendation is to harvest her as you will save as much of the buds as possible... otherwise, I can rather guarantee you that you will lose more buds as time goes on. And as you trim, KEEP examining the buds because sometimes the rot has started well before you see evidence of it but will show up by the time you get to the trimming... It's been a bitch of a year for outdoor grows... but seriously, save what you can! Good luck!
