Okay I am getting this up late! But here we go! It is day 5 and Day 12 for these seeds. Essentially half were started a week later. Day 1 = Day of Germination completion.
I have had them germinating outside 24/7, as I monitor the weather. During the day they are checked many times, rehydrate the media when needed, or to move into filtered sun again. They days are hot but the water is cool! I feel that the germination went almost ideal in terms of environmental conditions. Both times it took about until day 6 from sowing for them to pop up. I would say that is because of the cooler nights, only approx. 44 fehrenheit! While the days were 78-80 F. The water was approx. 65 F. The outdoor relative humidity has been about 20% normally and the heating element of the sun at 7,000ft elevation adds a subjective 15 degrees F. In my opinion. However in the shade/heavily filtered sun, the soil seemed to be staying plenty cool. Especially with the refreshing water.
I had sown the seeds about 2x the normal depth for insulative reasons.
To make things simpler, there are 2 plants that germinated for a Day 1 on the calendar 7 days earlier than the remaining 6. I am pushing their age back 7 days to match the others, giving them an undocumented one week head start over the others, and keeping track of what day I’m on will be simple. However I will leave an indication on their tags for which two are a week older.
Well this is the same picture I used for last week but it was taken today, Day 5 (12).
12 is a final nod to the true 7 day lead of the two bigger plants. At a point it won’t be so obvious right. Anyways, I’m super excited! Not sure why the two haven’t come up yet, one was from last week, and one from this weeks, so who knows. Maybe the latter is late? Lol
Anyhow, they are looking healthy! I will be monitoring the soil pH more frequently to make sure any shifts are properly managed.
I am super excited to see how the blue babies turn out!
Big super major thanks to Ezzjaybruh for the seeds!! Really satisfying packaging too.
Looks like I missed a week…
It’s been horribly hot, and they only have access to the light outside.
…In the heat.
So I have been keeping them in filtered sun, sometimes shade or a brief moment in the sun. They soak up all the morning sun when it’s cooler at least. I’ve noticed what would most likely be a subtle potassium deficiency. The heat is bad. Not too hot, but unfortunately there were multiple occasions where they had more hot sun than necessary. I didn’t notice any signs of stress at the time, other than leaf tips and edges folding and pointing up a lil bit. But later in the evening I could see subtle discoloration. I’m pretty sure these young un-established plants are just running a little short on potassium. I’ve been giving them potassium as well. It’s just a matter of keeping them cool.
Overall I’d say they haven’t gotten too hot! Just hot enough multiple times to put a higher demand on water and potassium than necessary, all while having slowed growth. I positive they are all still good and no one has been stunted. I hope!
But yeah I think we are doing good. Just going slower than usual with the excessive heat. We are averaging a high of 90 Fahrenheit with some days getting 94!
Also, they are growing slowly not only because of the heat, but the lack of direct light for the second half of the day. I’d rather grow slowly than risk stunting any. I’m feeling positive about this bunch. They are young and bursting with life!! ….slowly.
This is towards the end of last week.
The BB crosses are doing excellent. They have all gone through some extreme temps with intense temp and RH fluctuations. I’ve concluded that the plants 1 week behind experienced too much heat on this one day when some things came up and I wasn’t around to get them out of the hot sun in time, and they were stunted by excessive heat over 90F. The others didn’t show much signs of stress at all. I’m not giving up on the little ones, but I am giving them a large amount of grace and understanding. They can just continue to grow and do their best. Maybe they will come back into full speed in a week or so. Maybe not. At least I will grow them out to learn what happens. From now on I will be extra careful with all stimuli my seedlings are receiving.
Showing sone other plants of same age, some of which are photoperiods that began flowering about a month and a half early, with 15 hours of daylight! Why?
My first guess is some form of extreme rodelization. I did notice on both A-Trains that they each had a node with two pollen sacks developing as well as the burst of female bracts. So I nicked off the pollen sacks right away, and I’ve been putting them under a light for the nights to hopefully reveg them. Either way, a fun anecdote for some new knowledge and experience! I’m sure they would bud out Fat! Seeing how much they did in 2-3 days! But maybe there’s other elements at play.
Finally moved these two up into 7 gallon fabric pots. I didn’t want to let them go any longer in those little pots! Especially with the kind of year I’ve been having. Anyways, on that note, here is a video of those 3 photoperiods; one of each, an A-Train, an Alien Rock Candy, and Ackbar OG.
Big girls a growing quick.
Little stunted ones are snapping out of it. I’m transplanting them into bigger, more appropriate pots.
PIxBB stands 26” tall
POTGxBB stands 23.25” tall
Stunted littles: 3.5” tall
Super little one: 2” tall
2nd Week of Flower!
I think? Looking back on my calendar and pics on my phone that we’re never uploaded, my guess is, we are on second week. These pics and video are from August 11th, day 75 post germ.
It’s also very possible the two big gurls began flowering at different ends of the week.
The nutrients used this week were applied once during day 76.
In addition with a thick top dressing comprised of the following:
[insert composition here]
[Mushroom Compost as base media, dolomite lime, gypsum, muriate of potash, triple super phosphate, kelp meal, bone meal, seabird guano, Texas Greensand, black soldier fly insect frass, Earthworm Castings!, neem cake, bat guano]
Stuff like the triple super phosphate and muriate of potash were used in very small amounts. But I used them to increase the density of available phosphates and more importantly for the available potash. Keeping it small because I know the microbes don’t like stuff at those density levels. Will be compensating with a little extra molasses.
The weather has improved to sunny most the day with afternoon clouds breaking the hotter section, opening back up for a bright evening and sunset.
The average high has been 86F during the day, while dropping to 54F during the night. The coming week is forecasted an average refreshing high of only 78F with nights not much cooler, still averaging at 54F! The increase in afternoon moisture levels is playing a huge role in this grow. Helping to maintain a better VPD for these Ladies while shortening the range of temperature flux from day and night. I know 54F sounds cold, but this is the high desert at 7,000 feet elevation.
Pure Indica x Blueberry
measures an impressive 49” Tall
while
Planet of The Grapes x Blueberry
measures in at 34” Tall
The nutrients are not accurate nor a variety of other information. But the days and week numbers are good. Lol
I’ve been extremely busy and so I’ve been barely taking pictures to say the least.
Anyways, the POTGxBB is the fattest chunkiest one. And the PIxBB is the tallest and stinkiest one! Surprisingly the PIxBB smells like a tropical paradise! I can smell the plant before I even walk all the way up to it. The POTGxBB on the other hand, doesn’t have much smell. But a subtle smell indeed.
