Soaked seed in water over night
Placed into wet paper towel to pop seed and tap root out.
Placed into rock wool cube.
Placed in net pot and in mason jar without light protection. With clay pebbles Then added ionic bloom nutrient solution 5ml/litre of demineralised water.
Grow light on 24/7
Sprouted head through rock wool on the 7th of may. Using 24/7 light schedule until Second set of true leaves appear then only leave light on from 06:00 to 18:00 (12:12)
May use aerator or just stick with kratky method.
true leaves visible.
Growing fast at approx 2cm now.
Had an accident tipping over the jar and nutrients and the plant as well :( replaced nutrient solution and clay pebbles. Watered rockwool to flush out nutrient solution and shook out remaining nutrients and water to ensure it doesn’t get nutrient burn.
Plant is still healthy and moving to the light at a fast pace.
Very strong plant :)
I’ve noticed the nutrient solution has begun to reduce volume as the plant is now feeding and drinking.
Due to the size she is getting now.
Will monitor the levels as they drop.
Will check daily and maybe replace nutrient solution on the weekend. Every week. Depending on requirements. Have switched to ‘light’s on’ during the day and ‘light’s off’ during night. Now that she has some legs to stand on. She will now make ways directly into flower. Very active and reactive she is. Second set of true leaves starting to form between first set of true leaves. Roots have dipped into nutrient solution about 1cm and true leaves are growing fast.
Changed nutrient solution. Check PH of demineralised water and Ionic bloom nutrient solution. Found to be acidic at a ph of 5.
Found that demineralised water and ionic bloom nutrient solution when mixed at 1L:5mL equals a ph of 5.
I added drops of Seasol to the solution which found to bring the PH up! Will monitor the plant for any harm as I added drops to the solution until it reach a PH of 5.8.
Alternative would be tap water at 1l:5mL of ionic bloom nutrients which equalises at a PH of 5.8.
Also changed the kratky reservoir to block light as I noticed a nutrient layer on bottom of glass from nutrient. While I wait for paint to dry. May also continue to use this reservoir instead. *Monday:
First day of week 4 and it’s safe to say that she is growing at a consistent pace. With new growth forming from the main stem everyday.
Will take photos everyday from now on and only note anything worthy of noting. Noticed roots were brownish and nutrient solution murky. Found rust. Changed into new glass black mason jar.
*Tuesday:
Changed light fixture. Sprayed roots with spray bottle and water to clean them. Mixed new solution together with silica additive.
Wednesday:
Nothing notable today
Thursday:
Today I remixed a new solution using demineralised water to keep the water pure and clean as I suspected the garden water hose to be contaminated as well. Abnormal high PH range as well and high PPM on TDS meter.
I mixed in 11ml Ionic Bloom 2L of Demineralised Water and 4 drops of silica.
On the weekend I’m going to make a new batch of nutrients.
I’ll also get PH adjuster DOWN from Bunnings or hydro shop.
Mix silica in first at 2ml then add nutrient solution at 10ml to 2L (changed mind will half that at 5ml:2L) of demineralised water then adjust PH to 5.8 (6.3 is ideal not 5.8)
Will make a second batch adding Potash PK bloom booster for 3-4th week of flowering.
Friday:
Nothing notable except that new grow light is a bucket of shit
Saturday:
Amazing!!
PH up to 5.9 PPm up to 467
Have PH down additive ready and have installed a new 9w grow light with a higher par reading. 400-600ppfd which will be much better for flower 🌸
(End of week 4) forgot to add in - Sunday:
Changed nutrient solution.
1ml:15ml:2L:0.001ml:0.01 and diluted 1ml potash bloom booster to mixture. Bringing PPM to 558 and PH to 6.35.
Adjusted down to 6.29 with ph adjuster down and added 1 drop of seasol kelp/seaweed meal to bring to 6.3 EXACT! which is IDEAL!
1ml:15ml:2L:0.001ml:0.05
Silica, bloom nutrients, demineralised water, seasol and diluted potash.
PH adjuster down.
Week 5 -
Monday:
Ok!! Great start to week five!
I believe this baby has revealed it’s sex, female ! Reaching sexual maturity. Great news! Now it should start flowering as it’s on 12/12.
Removed the diffuser from the grow lamp which has raised the ppfd to 400-600 at 2-3” from canopy. 1000+ at -1”.
The first 5 blade fan leaves have shot out today.
Light came on when I went to lock the gate at 7:15pm. Not sure if this is going to hurt. But because it hasn’t flowered yet. I’m guessing not. Will leave the light off tomorrow. Giving the plant natural light that rises around 7:30 to give it 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep and then push it hard with light after work.
Will also measure the light properly in the grow box. Checking PPFD and DLI and put markings on box wall to place light for each stage of life cycle.
Wednesday:
Had a few issues with power as I’m adjusting new energy sources for new 9w LED grow light and 3.5w exhaust fan.
Thursday:
Lost power for light again today!
Purchased 10ah deep cycle lithium battery to hold charge and to be charged by 50w solar blanket.
Also purchased extreme low power usb nano aerator with airstone to maximise oxygen levels to roots.
When this arrives I will fill reservoir up and run the pump. Fingers crossed it doesn’t die out.
ALSO! The 5 bladed fan leaf is almost fully formed!! Hooray!!
Friday:
Changed nutrient solution.
More potash and more silica. Also added seasol again.
PH 5.9 - PPM 640
Saturday:
Growing and looking healthy!
Sunday:
Noticed new growth discoloured
Monday:
New powerbank powers light through the 12 hour shift beautifully!
Tuesday:
Concerned about yellow new growth.
Will check PH and PPM tomorrow afternoon and get some more demineralised water.
Wednesday:
Check PH/PPM change nutrient solution again. Not satisfied with last mixture.
Thursday:
Didn’t check PH/PPM. Going to ride it out until Saturday.
I don’t believe it to be too bad. Still growing rapidly and smoothly. Slight upwards curling of tips. Light burn maybe? Maybe nutrients to hot? But it’s patchy. Interesting.
Friday: nothing to add
Saturday:
2L:15ML:1ML
2L of Demineralised water + 15ml of Ionic Bloom nutrients solution and 1ml of Cyco silica = PH 6.3 and PPM 612.
Perfect!
Sunday:
Few updates coming in week 6
Monday:
Changed a few things.
Tuesday:
Ok so a few updates.
Purchased house of Gardens trace elements solution to help solve suspected iron deficiency causing yellowing of new growth.
New solution mixture
PH 5.75 - PPM 880
1L:1ml:10ml:1ml:1ml
Demineralised water:silica:bloom:trace:kelp
Added a Nano USB powered aerator to DWC. I want to maximise yield as efficiently as possible.
Will monitor new growth through out the week for better new growth. Hopefully avoiding the yellow stained leaves
Wednesday:
She is still growing rapidly.
Unsure if this is actually a deficiency. Leaning towards light bleaching due to exposed LED’s or lockout. Changed into new grow box. Slightly larger. Will get another PH pen to test PH as I think I fucked my calibration on this one.
Thursday:
New grow box is running smoothly. More stable than I anticipated.
Friday:
Here we are Friday new grow box is making the plant happy. Spreading her feathers out nice and evenly now.
Noticing water bubbles on tips of fan leaves in the morning. Not sure what or why. (Turns out it’s natural - Sweating) solved this by running the fan after lights off for as long as possible.
Saturday:
Yesterday - PH 6.3 - PPM 800
Today PH swung up to 6.6
Adjusted back to 6.2-6.3.
1L:10ml ionic bloom 1ml cyco silica:1ml trace elements
Yesterday I Purchased a new PH pen. The old PH pen was out by .4.
Not ideal. Not as bad as I thought. But it’s worth noting that I prefer PH of 6.3 because of research that says to be ideal for nutrient uptake across the spectrum of elements that plants need. In particular. Cannabis.
Sunday:
Watching it go CRAZY!!
Monday:
Growth exploding.
So I’ve noticed the new growth is no longer discoloured and the other fan leaves that were affected have now become a darker green. Thankfully, I think the trace mix has helped. Although Ionic Bloom nutrient solution does have the trace elements, because I’m using such a low dosage it may not be as available as the plant needed and because my old Ph pen was out by 0.4 units this could have resulted in the lack of Iron absorbed.
The 5w USB powered full spectrum LED grow lamp (surprisingly intense light Avg PPFD around 400) is now in the centre of new grow box and slightly higher. Light is more evenly distributed and easily powers this small homemade grow box specifically designed for smaller 12/12 from seed plants. No need for big expensive grow lights, running off a 20,000mah powerbank for 12hrs sharing power with low power NANO USB aerator pump leaves 20-25% battery at the end of the shift. Aerator then switched over to a 5000mah power bank over night 12 hour shift leaving 75% battery power left! (Amazing!!) it pumps plenty of air btw. Way more than a Jarvis Walker bait pump. And it is silent. I mean DEAD SILENT. the bubbles are the only noise you can hear.
Tuesday:
Adjusted PH from 7.0 back to 6.3
It’s starting to smell like cannabis.
Have a feeling it’s about to begin flowering. Noticed the smell as I was moving about testing the solution PH and PPM.
PPM dropped from 800 to 750 since the weekend. She is feeding on nitrogen during the last stretch which is what is causing the PH swing upwards. Nitrates convert into oxygen in the DWC. It’s natural.
Wednesday:
I had another look at my girl (fingers crossed) this afternoon and it looks to me like she’s about to pop out some pistals from the nodes. Noticed the smell again as I rub my nose on the top of the canopy and it smells like it is beginning it’s reproduction phase. This is exciting as I’ve waited for so bloody long.
Reading through other 12/12 from seed grow diaries most had begun flowering within 3-4 weeks. This is week 8.
For my next grow I will growing an indica dominant Hybrid called BIG BUG (Afghani x Northern Lights x Skunk) which will be more ideal for a 12/12 from seed grow to harvest.
Thursday:
This afternoon I defoliated her removing 6 large fan leaves. Enabling more light to charge the bud sites when she sends her pre flowers. This will also reduce the chances of any mould habitats as I only use an exhaust fan carefully placed.
I’m skipping Friday and the weekend in this update.
Unless anything fantastic happens til Monday.
If so.
I’ll make another VEG folder for week 8 to send updates on those.
Otherwise.
See you next week!
OzFruitGrower out!
Peace ✌️
Ok so technically this is still week 8 and this after on Friday:
WE HAVE FEMALE PRE-FLOWERS! YES!!
Post defoliation stress ~ After work I noticed the lower remaining fan leaves (older fan leaves) started to yellow at the tips after defoliating last night. My theory was that now with less foliage it has caused a some kind of stress as predicted. BUT this seemed to appear as a deficiency.
After researching to confirm my theory I found an article on this webpage below.
https://www.zamnesia.com/grow-weed/128-defoliation
Here is some information from a paragraph I read.
“There is a sorcerers' art to getting the defoliation-to-transpiration-needs ratio right. “Overdoing it has the effect of overfertilizing your plants and giving them nutrient stress.” When too much leaf material is removed and efficient transpiration is interrupted, nutes can build up in the root zone, causing cooking or nutrient lockout. Nutrient strengths will need to be adjusted to suit the less demanding plants until they recover. Experience eventually gives you the sense for verdant volume in a grow room”
~ End of quote*
As I suspected this was a stress signal. From taking too many fan leaves being such a small plant. Alternatively I should have only taken 2 fan leaves rather than 6. I will be changing nutrient solution this afternoon instead of Saturday.
I mixed a new batch of nutrients
Using 2/3rd strength of Ionic Bloom Nutrient solution half strengths of the trace Mix and half strengths of silica and add a half strengths of “Seasol Kelp meal” to help the plant cope with this stress.
BUT THE BEST OF NEWS I FINALLY SEE FEMALE PRE FLOWERS! WOOHOO!
I imagine I’ll add some updates next Monday as I have a full weekend and we all know what’s going on here.
So I’ll get back to everyone next Friday and call it week 10
Cheers for watching on guys!
And see you next week!
Peace ✌️
Monday:
Ok welcome to week 9
Took the first and second set of true leaves off her after she settled from first defoliation.
She handled this one way better and bounced back suddenly with vigorous growth.
Tuesday:
Today I started Low Stress training on this 12/12 from seed grow using a hair tie to tie it to the air line.
There is little information and no photos or final products of low stress training on a 12/12 from seed grow.
I think this may create multiple main bud sites and will be documented for other growers in detail with HD photography on my new YouTube Channel called 12 12 From Seed.
Wednesday:
She responded well waiting with her feathers up the next morning for her dose of light!
Sunday:
Mix new nutrients.
Mixed new nutrient solution without seasol as I find it cause high PH swing. Due to leaving Salty water increasing alkalinity in the mix. New nutrient solution as follows.
Silica, PotashPK, Bloom, Trace mix
1ml:1ml:10ml:1ml
Ph 6.3 - Ppm 1040
Defoliated again today and removed smaller bud sites. (Aka lollipopped) Allowing more light penetration and less foliage touching each other as it is a very compact grow.
If anyone would like to follow along through YouTube, please visit and grow along with me at 12 12 From Seed where I’m showing how LST and lollipopping works with this grow method !
