The intent of this diary is to participate in the Super Sativa Seed Club photo contest. It took a while for some of the new stuff I wanted to arrive, so germination was delayed. None-the-less, got them popped and going and entered the contest.
Thanks to Super Sativa Seeds Club for the seeds and what looks like a good contest! Good luck to everyone else participating!
Note to self: Count weeks on Wednesday!
7/25/22 is when the germination started.
Started seeds with a good soak in a solution of Therm X-70 and Horticultural Aloe. After a few hours transferred the seeds to a paper towel soaked with the solution.
Great White and BAS BB+ weren't dissolved so much as added on top of the seeds after their soak. Folded the towel up and into a zip-lock bag it went followed by stashing in a warm dark place. Will monitor periodically as I go. I'll likely add a little more when the seeds go in the holes in the dirt.
7/26/22 I can see that both seeds have very small tap roots. I guess technically say they germinated sometime in the last 12 hours (I put the seeds on the paper towel in the afternoon, and last checked them last evening, it's now Tuesday morning) however I think going to wait for a more significant tap root to make that "call". This is the first time I've done the paper towel thing.
7/27/22 I checked this morning and both seeds have nice healthy tap roots. They both went into their "forever" (at least until harvest) homes. Both are getting a humidity dome. The soil is wet with the same solution used in the glass and on the towel. That's what they'll get watered with for at least the first week. The inside of the humidity dome was also sprayed with the same solution. Keeping the pH at 6.2 Both holes and seeds were dusted with more Great White and BAS BB+ after they were put in the holes.
7/28/22 No one has poked their head through yet (kinda surprised as I didn't go deep with them.) Resprayed the domes and let them be.
7/29/22 Auto Creeper #1 has shown her head! #2 hasn't yet, but I think I can see where she's trying to poke through. We'll see tomorrow! Resprayed the domes a couple of times today.
7/30/22 #2 did in fact pop up where I thought she was trying. #1 is just trucking along. I'm still misting the domes, but haven't done more watering than just a light misting around the seedlings themselves. The pots still have plenty of water in them. I'll be checking tomorrow around the edges to make sure I'm not getting a dry surface layer. I keep spaying the domes at least twice a day.
7/31/22 The top couple of inches is getting drier, but the pots are still super heavy. Spritzed the soil right around the girls and call it that. #2 seems more vigorous than #1. I have the light at 21" which is the recommended hanging height and am beginning to wonder if that's not still too low. Still spraying the domes twice a day.
8/1/22 again just spritzed the soil around the girls. The domes also got sprayed twice today. Trying not to over-do it. I'm surprised that they're not taller. It's nice to see the second set of leaves forming.
8/2/22 Raised the light three inches as the plants are both still kinda short, seeing if I can get some stretch. Otherwise they both seem to look OK. I think I'm seeing some slight yellow streaks in the leaves. Calcium? Magnesium? It seems early for that.
8/3 OK, the domes came off today. I still want to look at the light hanging height, I still feel that these need some height to them, they seem like they're getting very squat. #1 Has gone back to being the larger of the two (it had the bigger and better developed tap root on the paper towel.) Still just watering lightly at the surface level with the spay bottle, I wish I knew how deep the roots were and if they'd made it down into the area of the pot that is clearly still wet. I see a noticeable jump in the size of #1 today, she's much bigger than yesterday.
Yellow stripes are more noticeable now that the leaves are larger. However, in looking at other grows of this strain, I see them in nearly all. I'm wondering if it's not some sort of genetic striation in this plant.
8/4 They're trucking along. Considering some super dilute nutrients now that they're getting a set of leaves with more than one leaflet.
8/5 Decided to go with quarter strength veg nutrients as both plants were dry enough to need water. #1 remains the more vigorous of the two, but both are still very squat.
8/6 Family stuff happened and I ended up spending the whole day helping mom. I didn't even get a chance to look in the tent.
8/7 WOW! What a difference in two days. Both have basically doubled in size. They're going to get some recharge today. Each girl got 60 ml of the solution of recharge (the rest went on my veggies.) I did pre-wet the soil around the stem with 20 ml of water that had nothing it, except that it was pH'd to 6.2
Will have to report back on the the amount.
When I looked in this morning, the exhaust duct had separated where I'd spliced two pieces together, so I was exhausting into the room where the tent is. That was not good, so I fixed it, but I really need to find a good way of getting this to exhaust outside the house instead of just outside of the room. (That's way easier to say than to do as I don't have a good way of putting a hole in the wall that's not permanent and very obvious.)
8/8 Nothing really to say, they're just vegging. Hopefully getting stranger, if not noticeably bigger.
8/9 Still just trucking along. Pots are still pretty heavy. The top couple of inches are dry, but they seem plenty wet deeper down. On looking at the pics from today, it looks like there's some upward curling on the edges of the leaves. Added a humidifier set to 55% to see if I can't help this. During the day, the exhaust fan is running pretty much continuously, so I'm sure this will help, but it seems the lowest hanging fruit at the moment.
8/10 Today is the start of week 3 since germination. It was watering day as well. Just plain water with some aloe in it. No nutrients.
To help with temps added an intake fan. That already seems to be helping.
Don't really know why #2 is having curled leaves and #1 has leaves that are pointy and even praying some of the time. Will have to keep an eye on her.
8/11 Well #2 has perked up somewhat. #1 is trucking along.
8/12 Today was another WOW day for #1. She's lookin' pretty good. #2 is doing OK, I think, but I'm just chalking the differences up to different phenotypes.
8/13 Today was watering day, I'm probably not going to see them again until Monday, so I went a bit heavy. They both got Mag Pro in the water along with the nutrients.
8/15 I think I may need to increase the nutrients a bit, that yellowish leaf on #2 is sort of screaming at me. Otherwise they're looking pretty good. Definitely growing along!
8/16 Nothing to note and nothing done. They seem to have gong through a growth spurt this week. Next watering will likely be just recharge.
8/17 It's hard to believe that I'm starting week three of this grow. They're just trucking along. The larger pots have really reduced the frequency that I water now that I'm away from the really tiny baby stage. My brain thinks it's odd that I'm not feeding them all the time, but they don't seem to be complaining at all.
I'm sort of torn about when I will start training them. If I remember what read about this strain correctly, I likely have another couple of weeks of veg left.
8/18 I seem to have lost the pics from today. Never the less, they're just trucking along.
8/19 Today was watering day. I was originally going to do just water, but I'm starting to see what looks like nitrogen deficiency in #2 so I decided to go with the dilute nutes.
8/20 Started a little leaf tucking today. I think I'm going to need to start LST pretty soon.
8/22 Boy, it's going to be time to start LST soon! They're looking OK. I wish there was more praying, but I'm not complaining.
8/23 They're going to need water tomorrow. Just water me thinks. Nutes again mid week. Starting doing pics with a real camera today. They're big enough.
8/24 Well, they're definitely picking up height! 5+ inches in the last week. That said, I should have watered yesterday, so they're a bit droopy. Not thrilled with that, but it is what it is. They got water, just plain pH'd water, today. AC#2 is looking like she's showing signs of pre-flower. AC#1 is a bit behind in that regard, but I can imagine that I see tiny white hairs.
8/25 They look much better with a bit of water in them. AC#2 is definitely in pre-flower. AC#1 is certainly also getting there, it take much imagination to see the tiny white hairs today. I also feel like she's trying to tell me something with the that slight yellow tinge, especially to the newer leaves, but I can't put my finger on it. I've been combing over the "deficiency charts" but nothing seems to match. I'm going to have to do a run-off pH test.
I did remove the humidifier as they're transpiring enough now to be mostly good on their own. I also swapped out a failing oscillating fan for one of the new AC Infinities that I finally got my hands on. I don't mean to sound like a fan-boy, I guess pun totally intended, but I do appreciate both the build quality and the level of control in just the base settings on that thing (the old one basically had just two settings, "you should feel air moving now, but nothing dramatic" and "full on hurricane".)
Next time I feed I'm going to start including some bloom nutes.
I will likely start LST on them either this afternoon or tomorrow.
8/26 I put a "staple" on each of the main stems to start bending it down. You can see them in today's pictures. AC#2 is starting to have a mild smell that's very pleasant, it's also very clear that AC#2 is starting to flower. I'm going to have get in and clean up the underside of each soon
8/27 Made adjustments to the LST. Thinking about re-arranging the plants a bit. It's still too early to consider watering again.
8/29 Added 3/8 strength bloom nutes to the mix (bumped Grow, Si and Mg to 3/8 as well.) Only gave 0.5 gal water instead of draining to waste as I see a humidity problem coming and I'm trying to avoid the de-humidifier as long as I can,
Also lolipopped both plants. Accidently took a branch off of AC#2 that was going to be questionable, but I'm looking at that "question answered". On AC#1, there are two branches that I think need to go, but I left them for later evaluation.
*****THERE IS WEIRDNESS IN THE "DISPLAY MODE, WHEN I LOOK AT TWO OF THE NUTES THEY SHOW 7.12 mL/gal IN DISPLAY, BUT WHEN I LOOK AT THEM IN EDIT, THEY ALL SHOW 1.88.****
8/30 Just continuing with the LST. These would be rather beastly by now if I hadn't bent the apical stems over.
On the other hand they'd be more of the Christmas Tree shape I've seen so often in other diaries. I kept telling myself I wasn't going to train these and just let them express themselves. Well, it turns out I didn't count on the jitters associated with seeing them start to stretch and then getting worried about vertical space. (OK and all the yield gremlins started whispering in my ear.)
****This is were weeks 4 and 5 got run together (it seems odd that this is coincident with the weirdness in the display mode.) I manually separated when I discovered it way out in week 11/12 (it took me a few days to figure out what happened.)****
The calendar should look like this:
Week 0 7/27/22 (seedlings broke the surface of the growing medium)
Week 1 8/3/22
Week 2 8/10/22
Week 3 8/17/22
Week 4 8/24/22

Week 10 10/5/22
Week 11 10/12/22
Week 12 10/19/22
8/31 More of the same. I tied down a few more branches, but didn't make the call on those lowers on AC#1. I wish I had more grows under my belt so I had a better feel for whether or not they were going to make it.
9/2 Today was just pH'd water. It's going to be hot this weekend and I'm probably not going to be able to check in much, so I wanted to get things setup to just cruise through.
9/3 They seem droopy this morning, and the heat hasn't gotten here.
9/6 Well, I think in zeal to ensure that the girls stayed hydrated over the weekend may have lead to my overwatering them. C'est la vie.
It's HOT, but they seem to be holding up. What's I'd give for AC at this point, but there aren't many choices here. The worst should be over by now and tomorrow it will be just garden variety hot instead of "Seventh Level Of Hell" hot.

9/7 OK, I definitely overwatered during the high heat event. I hope I didn't mess up too bad.
I think I'm figuring out training too. Next time I need to start earlier and not bend so extreme. I've knocked a good 8" off the height of these girls with my training. I hope that's not a problem either.
Next time I think I want to go with a dry amendment thing. I'm thinking about Gaia Green. It just looks simple. I'm less concerned with the whole "organic" thing than I am with having the food needed in the soil without having to mix stuff.
AC#2 has gotten to the place where I felt like I should try a stack. Notes, find the black background, remember to stop down to f/11 or f/16 and find a better stacking tool. This one isn't bad, but I screwed myself by leaving the lens at f/8, the clean-up was messy.
9/13 AC#1 is getting purple! The flowers look really cool, but she's clearly a radically different phenotype from AC#2. Otherwise, both are doing pretty good.

9/18 Well, outside of the grow, it's been a week for sure! Now halfway through it I have just a couple of cell phone snaps. Hopefully, I'll some real pics on Monday. Good thing they're kind of on auto pilot at this point!

09/22 Le sigh!
OK, after having to flush both plants because of a soil pH issue (and resultant nutrient lockout), I now believe that I got a bum bail of Sunshine #4. Others have reported that some bails seem to go way acidic all on their own. I seem to have one of those bails.
I have some dolomite lime that I'll be top dressing with, but if I ever decide to use any more from this bail, I'm going to be amending it with more dolomite. I'm thinking about setting up a test pot that I just water and monitor the pH in and see if it's safe before I try growing anything else in it. My first grow had the same issue but I thought it was because I wasn't keeping up with calibration of the pH pen or some other newbie mistake. Well now twice in a row, and me being ultra vigilant about pH, and I'm left conclude that is the stupid soil. The run off pH had been creeping down, but it finally fell "off the cliff" and all I could do was flush until it came back into range, but I know that didn't fix anything. I just have to the dolomite top dress in there and then deal with amending the soil if I decide to use it again.
I caught it earlier this time, so the damage isn't so bad, but I was hoping these girls would more presentable to the end. Hopefully no harm, no foul.
I am amazed at how different the phenotypes are. AC #1 has that purple thing going on and is only showing a little frost at this point. She also doesn't smell that strong. On the other hand AC #2 smells all dank and fuely and the buds are really putting on weight.
There are more stacks coming.

10/1 Well my work/life balance is all out skew and the stuff going on with my family ain't helping none. As a result my grow is suffering. I missed the pH thing, again, last week and apparently a P/K deficiency at the same time. Trying to get them to bounce back but also not interested in trying to foliar feed them as I don't really want to get the buds wet. Some of them are looking quite nice.

10-8 Hopefully life will be slowing down. The girls are OK even if looking a bit rough. I think the nutrient deficiencies are finally starting to show some signs of improvement, but I'm worried that it's too late. AC1 isn't very frosty or very loud, but AC2 is both!

Trichomes are still not all cloudy.
I'm totally psyched about #2. #1 I'm reserving judgment on. I was feeling pleased that I I had so much purple going on with her, but she's just not frosting up. I need to get the camera out and do some final shots as I'm finally at "that" stage in this run.
Next run is going to be totally organic. Already have all the stuff from BAS and will begin cooking some soil in the next week or so. Anything has to be easier than this science experiment approach. Don't get me wrong, I love science (heck I'm a lab rat), but this synthetic stuff is for the birds if it's all that picky.
Looking at the nutrient distribution, it looks fine when I'm in here in edit mode, but when I just view the diary, it's all jacked up.

I'm seeing much more frostiness in AC#1 over the last few days and she's getting a pronounced citrus twang to her. AC#2 is still very earthy/gassy/funky with slight touches of citrus and she's still VERY loud.
They really are both continuing to be very different, but I'm starting to get excited about AC#1 again. She really smells nice.
I had some time constraints this week. so I passed on stacks and tried to focus more on normal bud shots.
Trichomes are still not all cloudy. I'm seeing some amber on the main cola of AC#2, but still lots of clear. I'm in range for where these should be finishing, but it doesn't look like I'm "there" yet.

I think I'm going to want to try this strain again in a living soil recipe instead of using synthetics.
I still have a couple of seeds, so after the next grow, this one is likely to be back. I like the way they smell and anxious to give them a try.
Well, they're done, down and drying.
The differences in the two plants carried through right to the end. Even as they're drying #2 seems to be the more appealing, but I'm not counting out #1 at all. It's all just a matter of time waiting for them to dry and cure.
I'll post finished bud shots when they're dry.
@delray_kevin, I use the used solution from my RDWC to water my tomatoes and paprika....paprika is still green, but the tomatoes are the biggest motherfu##s i ever saw. Good luck with all your ventures 😎🍻🍅
@Metatronix, thanks man! I appreciate it. They're both starting to look like plants instead of a couple of leaves stuck to the top of the pot! 😁
Me thinks that they're both going to get a little Recharge today, I've never used it in my grows, but picked up a bag after my last grow and have been using it on tomatoes and peppers with some pretty nice results. I was waiting for them to get some substance to them before trying here. I think this is the day... Yet another experiement.
