First time growing the sticky and decided RDWC was worth a try.
Took longer than I wanted to, to get the RDWC done. Pics are day 8/9 after RDWC Transplant. ChemCookies on the left (larger one) started sprouting about 2-3 weeks before I was given a seed of Compound Genetics Apples and Bananas. Took about 3 more weeks to get all the equipment set up so they have been chillin' in soil for quite a while. Going to SCoG when the net gets here. This is an odd grow, the next round will be the same strains and germination schedule.
Think Ill veg them for another 1-2 weeks then put them into flower.
Added CO2 controller and diffuser hose as well as the screen. Cut a few fan leaves blocking obvious bud sites from light.
Think my light was a little close and stressed them. The green tips are from that or nute burn from going to 450TDS up from 410 week prior.
Raised light about 6" and turned down to 80%.
Roots look healthy AF
Week two of flowering. Plants have doubled in size since the flower cycle started. Very bushy now. Will defoliate the lower branches soon.
Roots are healthy with no signs of rot or other issues. Each root ball is a little larger than a basketball at the moment.
I top off the nutes once a day and maybe adjust pH. I don't like to micro manage them so I let the pH swing around 5.5 - 6.5 before messing with anything and by that point, nute/RO water add back solves it for the most part.
They are using about two gallons a day of nutes and almost 1.5 gallons of water now.
Seeing all the little bud sites erupt is exciting for the first grow.
WOW. So Apples & Bananas is getting super tall with some frost. I didn't think it would stretch like that, so she got a few stalks pulled to the side and adjusted the light again. Showing an average LUX of 48,000-70,00 for all bud sites. Trichromes looking nice! All other environmental are on point. pH swung from 5.7-6.2 last week and needed no adjustments other than add back.
They are producing a nice aroma of Beta-pinene followed Limonene. MMMMMMMMMMMMM.
Pictures are from the start of week 5 bloom cycle.
The pine smell is getting stronger with each day. I lolly popped them a bit more.
Pulled the CO2 down to 1000ppm.
Adjusted water temp down 1°F to 66-67°.
The total Nutrient volume is only 18 gal (68L) now as the root balls are taking up approx 6 gal. (22L) of volume.
Airflow to the root system is 26L/min via two 8" circular airstones.
The Apples & Bananas is 8" taller than the GMO Cookies. Ooooops. This has caused me to angle my light 45° to allow for an av erage LUX of 48,000 to 74,000.
Obviously these two grown together is not an ideal combo. This is my first grow, so my ignorance as to how big that strain will get coupled with the lack of proper management has led to interesting results.
Night temps outside are in the low 50's so utilizing that cool & dry fresh air has been great and hopefully gets those girls thinking winter is almost here.
As usual, I let the solution swing around without micromanaging the pH unless it's outside the range of 5.5-6.5. This week it was almost steady at 6.1pH. No adjustment was needed.
I noticed the TDS (700) was slowly climbing. I assume this is a nute imbalance. It was water swap time anyway.
Nute add-back is once every two days, consisting of 4 gallons.
Streptomyces K61 seems to bring the pH up by 0.2 to 0.3 once added to the solution and mixed in for 2 hours.
Humidity is higher than I would like. I should get a dehumidifier. The airflow into the root system pumps a lot of humid air into the tent through the lid and cup.
I can see them fattening up now. ChemCookies might need support when buds get heavier.
A&B stems could hold a pound each or more they are so thick.
ChemCookies is developing a slight orange/tangerine scent.
Everything was normal last week. Did usual solution add back & feeding. All other environmentals remained the same. Water is clear and fresh so no need for a weekly change out. No film on any lines or walls of rez. I'll do my two week water change out as usual next Wed.
Week 7 bloom cycle begins now.
The smell is very strong, I love it. They are so sticky!
I lowered the solution temp another degree or so for the ripening process to 65-66F. I can see some purples developing on the Apples and Bananas, but the camera on my phone doesn't pick it up very well. Everything was normal last week and no adjustments to pH was nessesary staying at 5.6-5.8 the whole time. I did the normal add-back every two days this time averaging only three gallons versus four. Seems like they are not drinking as much.
Pulled nute levels down to 780.
In about two weeks I'll start inspecting for the milky white goodness on the Chem cookies. I'm going to harvest before too much amber develops. Hopefully no more than 10%. I don't want ChemCookies to have too much couch lock.
As for Apples and Bananas, I'll let her flower for 10 to 11 weeks.
I have an extra bucket, so when the Chem Cookies needs her nute flush two weeks before the A&B, I'll toss the whole plant lid and all into that bucket with just an airstone and pure RO water + UCRoots.
Today begins week 8 of the flower cycle.
I lowered the nute down by 100ppm as well as the C02 to 800ppm. I should have enough CO2 in the tank to make it to the end of the grow. 40lbs of CO2 or 394cuft @ $22. Not a bad deal.
I stopped using the Streptomyces K61 as they are approaching the flush and lowered the solution temp to 66°F.
Nighttime air temps here are in the upper 40's with 40% humidity. The inline AC Infinity exhaust fan is set to cycle to 1/10 for daytime beginning at 07:00. Then 4/10 for nighttime air flow at 19:00.
I'll start checking the trichomes closely now. Harvest is soon!
Waiting.... waiting.... waiting. Where are thou my amber trichomes?
Lots of frosty goodness, but not as much milk/amber as I would like. I plan on flushing when they reach an average of 10% amber.
Staying at a "week 8" of solution calculation till they are finished. RDWC for 18 gallons - https://cch2o.com/nutrient-calculators/
OMG the smell is amazing. I can't wait to see how these turn out after 8 weeks of curing. They will be a nice Xmas treat!
Overall they are dense little popcorn buds, lime green in color and sparkly with trichomes and orange hairs.
I would say, that vs. Apples and Bananas, it is less resistant to changes in nutrient levels and other environmental factors.
Overall a stout little plant about 30" in overall height.
The total height at harvest was 42". Measured from the top of the net pot to the tip of the cola...Almost too tall for the tent, when you add the light, distance and air filter. The wet/trimmed weight was 409g for one plant. Took about .3m2 of grow space. Super resistant to things like mites and changes in environmental conditions, and nutrient levels. Be careful at end of harvest, the buds are so fat, wet, and dense that mold/rot can quickly be a thing if not managed with humidity and airflow. I opened up the nodes a bit to help with air flow. The diameter of each main cola was 4" at time of harvest.
I moved my fans around three times a day to make sure each side had some direct air for a few hours each day and kept RH under 55%. I let the cool air here at 7,000-foot elevation pour in at night and she prob got down to 52 degrees. Purples were very prominent, but I'm sure some will fade as the cure happens.
I would totally grow this again.
