Okay, So this is the GenePool Jamboree :-)
Unidentified Free Seeds from MSNL (possibly Aurora) + Premium Mix M&F + 1 Big Bud Auto Fem + 1 Gorilla Glue Fem
Grow Goals: Produce quality seeds for personal consumption and future testing. Create some variety for the upcoming winter. Clear the shelf of unknown & unmarked seeds.
The intent is to allow the males from the premium mix to pollinate the females, in so doing they'll produce some good seeds to use for future personal projects and consumption.... Granted I will never know the true pedigree, but I do know for certain they are all high quality strains. So around my farm this batch is hereby dubbed GenePool Jam.
Starting with 14. Thirteen have sprouted and have shown excellent growth during this first week. By week's end, I have removed them from the 24 hour light booth, and into the main tent. On the seventh day, I put them under a 1000W LED light at a 18/6 schedule.
Water only at this stage.
The Unknowns and the Gorilla Glue look amazing and are growing very well. The big bud auto and the premium mix are progressing nicely about a day or two behind the rest. The 14th of 14 is below ground. It has germinated, nice tap root, just has not made it to sprout stage yet.
Should be a fun project. Looking forward to it.
Growth rates are accelerating. Two of the plants became top heavy and needed extra support. By the end of the week, we repotted all of them into 5 gal pots and started feeding them nutrients for the first time. The 14th plant never sprouted so we finally gave up on it.
The 1k light wasn't providing enough effective coverage after the repotting. So I went ahead and swapped out the light for the 2k watt LED. I put the light a little on the high side, providing a little more distance between the plant and the light source. As the plants mature, I'll decrease the distance between the two.
Gloria (Gorilla Glue) - she's looking really good and healthy, as is the Big Bud Auto. One of the premiums and one of the unknowns, are both showing signs of trouble. Well, just slow development, not necessarily trouble. The unknown has an elongated cotyledon and is still working it's 3rd set of leaves. The premium has a deformed leaf set, but seems to be growing passed it, it's fourth set of leaves appear normal, smaller but normal. All of the other plants are well into their 5th set of leaves.
Battling heat and humidity this week, and the coming week. My concern is fighting this heat for a few more weeks, until the turn of the season, while the plants are in this vegetation stage. I do have a fan running and it is doing a fine job of circulating the air. But I did notice some sign of wilting in a few of the leaves.
Outside conditions are amplified on the inside at this location. So I am pretty much at the mercy of the weather, here. I'll do the best I can and hope for the best, while maintaining constant watch on that temp gauge.
Over all that, the plants do look good. Had some really nice growth on the majority of them, especially Gloria (gorilla glue #4). The two that were deformed in the beginning have grown past their respective deformities. Both of their leaf sets are smaller and about two behind the rest of the group.
As long as I can keep that temp and humidity down, I should be ok.👌
😎
All of the girls showed good growth this week. We have a total of three that are a little behind the main group, but they are growing. Besides those three, everyone else got topped today. Once the branch structures get a bit more developed, I plan on super cropping the ones I can.
Still battling humidity. It's been unseasonably humid of late but the weather patterns seem to be moving now. So hopefully things will dry out soon. Typically August is one of the driest months of the year, but noooo, not this year.... We've re-deployed the fans to create a different air flow pattern. Hoping that will make a difference this week.
😀 Overall, everyone looked good, but Gloria (Gorilla Glue) is still looking and growing the best.
Gloria, is a true Gorilla!!😎
Since being topped last week, she has just simply blown up. She towers over all of the other girls. Her fan leaves are as big as an outdoor plant. Inner branches are popping out. She's a monster. I've started super cropping her branches, bending them in various directions to receive as much light as possible. Canopies on a lot of the plants have exceeded their respective pots. So for the first time we are having to spread them out. Next week, we will add another light and spread them further for the switch to flowering mode.
Still battling humidity. Ambient is 72+, we are struggling to keep the tent in the mid to upper 60's. Temp is going to get worse in the upcoming leek. Although we are hoping it will be a dryer heat, and hope that it will dry the building out some.
With so much humidity, there hasn't been a need to water the plants. They were flushed out last week, and they are still very damp from that.
Gloria is the biggest at about 38-40cm, nine others are about 30-32cm, the remaining 3 plants are way smaller at about 15cm. The smaller plants are growing past their respective issues. Their development is normalizing, just simply smaller plants at this point.
Looking forward to having a good week!
The beast just keeps growing bigger. Several showed signs of stress from the heat and humidity, but overall they looked exceptional.
I spread them apart from each other to give them some room to grow. Also added another light to cover the spread. These girls are going to get big enough to cover the entire tent (3.5m x 1.5m), so I figure there will be two 2k lights on each end and a 3rd 1k light in the middle.
Light water yesterday, Fed them today. Pinched and bent a few branches. Several started showing hairs. No obivous males yet.
Changed the light schedule today to 12/12.
Hoping this will be the last week of heat & humidity. Fingers crossed :-)
Gloria (Gg) is looking good, getting taller and broader. Big Bud Auto is starting to show she has changed into flower mode. Almost all of the girls have started showing flower or the change into flower mode. Even the short girls are showing good sign and or flower.
The primary goal of this grow, is to create some seed stock, hence the gene pool jam. So far I've identified 3 males, so I think there is a good chance of success. That is if the boys can score at the big dance....
Of course, there is Gloria Gorilla Glue, what's not to like about her, she's not going to have a problem with the boys... Then there's Big Bud Auto, big tits and automatic, yep, no problem with the boys there. Now there might be a little problem with Fauna & Flora. Ya see, Fauna & Flora, well, she's special in her own way. Not quite as pretty as all the other girls and little top heavy if we're being candid.
Fauna & Flora never branched outward. Instead, they mutated and grew conjoined and upward as the main stalk. Very interesting. I'm going to enjoy watching her grow. I can remember while I was growing in Humboldt Co., we had 3 out of 1000 that mutated into very curious looking flowers.
Overall, everyone is looking good and doing what they are supposed to be doing. The girls are turning into flower mode, the boys are showing pollen pods. We should be full on breeding after next week.
Every week I'm stunned. This week several things changed in a huge way. One of the girls shot upward, she's over 90cm now. Last week, I sexed out 3 males, this week two more showed up, so the total is 5. One of them is already dropping pollen, so the breeding part of this project has started. I suspect the other males will start opening up over the next few days.
I spread the pots out a little more to ensure everyone had good airflow.
The rest of the girls looked great. Nice little flowers starting up everywhere. Gloria continues to get even more beasty.
As I had hoped, Fauna & Flora produced a mutant flower. Yea! :-) I like the weird flowers :-)
I fed them real good. Will let the boys do their thing this week, before thinning them out and giving all of the light space to the girls.
Now that I think about some seed numbers, this batch did not fare so well. 10 seeds completely unknown and unmarked, but free seeds from MSNL and a previous purchase, (these days they come identified). 10 seeds from a Premium Mix of M & F purchased from MSNL. All 20 really good, just not verifiable by strain name. Then there was two seeds of feminized strains, Gorilla Glue and Big Bud Auto. 5 males grew, 3 from the Unknown batch, 2 from the Premium batch. 3 females from each batch, plus the two known females. 9 seeds never germinated. <-That is a first for me, and nothing against MSNL. The most likely culprit is me, drowning the seed....
I've always gotten outstanding results from MSNL, period.
Well, the canna-orgy is over. I now have a sense of what it's like to be the clean-up guy after a porn shoot... 😱 It was a nasty affair... All of the male plants were leaned over, as if spent. Open pods all over the floor. All of the females simply covered in pollen. Looking like a powdered donut. Gloria, got a full on facial from the male beside her. I think it's safe to say the breeding portion of this project has been successful.
We took everyone out of the tent, swept up, rearranged some cords and then re-positioned all of the females in the light. Gave everyone a lot of room to spread out and grow. We got a girl in the corner, she's doing amazing, she's already up to 160cm.
Gloria, Fauna & Flora are both doing great, Fauna & Flora's flower is taking on an interesting shape. The slow pokes are developing nicely. Smaller but shaping up well enough.
We are pretty much locked in for the duration now. The weather has turned, so heat and humidity will be a lot easier to manage. Just need to keep them fed and happy.
Well, I can report all the girls are pregnant and every one of the flowers have seeds. So the goal of the grow has certainly been confirmed and attained. Yea!
I did make a change this week. I picked up a couple of products from Advanced Nutrients, and incorporated those into the food change for the girls. (Big Bud & Overdrive)
I got one lady that is super tall, unexpectedly so... I've had to bend her over and allow her to grow horizontally.
Two weeks since I've seen the girls.
By the time I got to them, they were looking very haggard and poorly.
They had been reduced to one cup of water per 72 hours, and had dried up badly.
The tenders thought they were over watering, and the wilting they were watching, was an effect of that over watering.
I've corrected the misunderstanding.
I rotated the ladies. Picked off the dead leaves. Made up a batch of nutrients and fed the girls.
That was yesterday, I will check on them again tomorrow.
No Smilies - and Finish Weight does not reflect the purpose of the grow --- However, besides that ----- VERY successful grow - I started with 20 seeds - now I have thousands :-)
Solid nugs, high seed production. Very aromatic, puts a smile on your face walking in the room. Most plants were a meter plus, but one girl shot up to two meters plus. Although each plant had very distinctive seeds, one plant's seeds stood out. I certainly wish there was a way to know what they are :-) (without a lab)
All I can say is wow. I wonder what happened here with your big bud. I did one earlier this year. it was a monster. I used about 430w on it and got 9 oz dry. I am in coco. If you do another one and think of it. Could you tag me in please. I am just starting another one now. Should be about a week before I start a journal here. My goal will be for at least 10 oz this round. The BB was only the 3rd plant I had ever grew. I am thinking maybe you just got a bad seed. I am going to try a scrog top this time. I also started using the an bud ignitor. My bud sites have about doubled in size on the 2 plants I have used it on. Once I get my journal for my BB going. I will tag you in. It looks like you are doing a great job growing 👍
@justright, On this grow, we were just growing seeds, so the flowers did not have a lot of vegetation, but the BBA did produce a lot of seed... Which was promising for me on a different level... Meaning: I grew BBA earlier this year and was disappointed by the yield... As that first plant started to finish, I realized the yield problem was me.... I had super cropped an "auto-flowering" plant... Which screwed up the density of the flower.... affecting the yield...
On this grow, the BB really did great, it's just that the flowers were full of seeds (as they should) - leaving not as much meat on the bone.... so to speak... I was real happy overall...
I have a couple of CBD runs to make, but I am certain I'll back around to BBA at some point - I can certainly tag you then... 👍
@MSNL_Seeds,
Thank you...After having a couple plants hermaphrodite and one grow accidentally got seeded. I figured it was about time to intentionally create some seeds 😀
