A true beginner grower. I have grown 1 plant outdoors in my life so I have purchased everything I need for an ongoing indoor setup. One of these will end up being a mother, the strongest will be chosen and the rest flowered then I need to clone off my mother from this lot. I’m starting completely fresh so I’m sure I’ll learn tons along the way and I cannot wait! All plants took a hit this week being ripped out the soil by an eager child, I suspect this will move the grow back by 2 weeks. I’ll be using a local nutrient brand throughout and this is my first grow so I hope I can learn a lot from you all.

Grow has recovered from being yanked from there homes (Doh!) Just starting with some low level fertiliser and letting them do their thing.

Start of week 3. Day 21 This is my first grow and I have a 1200x1200 main room and a 300x1200 veg attached to the side of the main tent. I am using 4X Sugar Black Rose normal seeds found in a bag I smoked. I have 1X 1500 watt LED with seperate blue/red dinners so I’m running about 70% blue power and 30% red. The 2 plants on the middle unfortunately got pulled from the pots by a sneaky animal during early days hence slower growth and all plants got hit by a flash storm and took a hit as well as the soil being soaked so they have taken a while to bounce back. I have given them the first set of nutes from a line called Goliath. A half dose this week the. Next week onto the normal schedule. The idea is to keep 2 of these as mothers for clones and flower any other females (if I’m that lucky) the mothers will stay in soil yet clones will be in coco. I’ll have one level in the 300x1200 section for mothers and the other level to propagate. The main 1200x1200 for flower eventually using that also for veg and buying a larger flower room although this setup will do to start. Is 300x1200 enough to keep 2X mothers? Can you see anything else I can improve on? I’m doing this to document my own grow but also take tips and learn from this community! Thanks.

Is 1x1 enough to keep mothers happy? Or 1x2 would be maximum. Are these spaces too small?

You can keep it however small you like.. 1x1 being about the smallest I’d do.. You’re just restricting your ability to take a decent quantity of cuts at anytime. Depends what your end game is. If you’re trying to take a few dozen cuts all at once.. this won’t work. But if you want a clone or two here and there it’s fine. You will, however, have to continually prune and keep it cut down to size. Ultimately, I’d recommend a bit larger size. I run 8-12 in a 4x8 and it works well. I can take a dozen or so clones from any one at a time. Keeping moms just takes a little different shift in maintenance / mentality compared to vegging out plants for flower. I run low lights on them and keep containers smaller so they grow slower. Nutrients at a minimum. But it’s a fine line because you want them healthy enough to take clones.

Topped the plants at the end of the week after these photos have been taken. Luckily all are looking female so far and no more surprises have keeps up. I’m now starting on its real nute schedule using rain water and my local nutrients. I will eventually be moving 3 of these plants (praying they are all female) to my flower room and keeping the healthiest specimen for future clones.

Starting to get strong and drink like they should. All have been topped and nutrient plan is being followed. I will be keeping 2 of these as mothers and fruiting the other 2. More updates to come, my first grow and so far so good.

Hi, How much longer should I keep these in veg before flipping? I’m at about week 5 from seed yet I think I have a few weeks to go before moving to fruit tent. Should I be getting rid of some large fan leaves to create room for light? Any tips appreciated. Thanks

If you get rid of the chonkers that are blocking light to inner nodes, you'll start developing a nice even canopy. Also, if you haven't topped it yet, I suggest you do so soon. That's another way to make the inner and lower branches try to catch up to the top of the plant and add even more to the top canopy. As far as flipping to flower goes, that's up to you. If you do what I suggested, top and defoliate, you'll want to wait a few weeks to a month before you flip them into flower. I hope this helps.

This week I topped the largest secondary branches to add a few more sites to my plants. I have also does some LTS on the main branches (probably much too late in the run) and have evened them with the branches below trying to achieve a somewhat even canopy. I believe I will need 2 more weeks for the topping and the LTS before I start the flowering cycle. My main objective now is to try and get all my budsites as even as possible as I’m debating whether I use a scrog or sog and I guess it depends how even I can get this on my own without a net.

Hi all. I’m on my first grow and I have these lower branches on each of my plants and I do not think they will be sufficient in creating buds as they are behind the rest of my canopy and most likely are draining energy. Should I cull them and can they be used as clones? Thanks

I'd chop them off, personally. But, I like to really lollipop my plants. Take a look at my outdoor grow. I'm ScrOGing and removed almost all of the foliage underneath the canopy, along with all the branches that weren't going to make it close to the canopy. Not a single one of my plants were stressed to the point of turning into a hermaphrodite and they are all making fat nugs. I hope this helps.

Last week of Veg and then I’m moving 3 of these to flower. Did my final defoliation and am keeping with my nutes specifications for this run. They are all looking healthy !

First week down into flower and all are looking nice and healthy. I decided not to use a net as my canopy is quite even and I have space left in the tent for light to hit anyway. I’m using the 3 nutrients I have from the start although after week 2 I’ll be swapping to the specified flowering nutrient 1 of 2 and also have been using molasses and Silica which I will not stoop on the silica. All are looking healthy so it’s time to sit back and keep them fed to see the final results! Side note I have successfully popped 4X clones after trying for the first time. It’s enough for the second cycle! I am awaiting 4 more that will hopefully pop too.
