evilavocado Took 3 days to germinate between two paper towels in a semi-closed container placed in a dark cupboard at around 28C. Sprayed the paper towels with water 2 times a day.

evilavocado This diary is being made retroactively. By week 4 I topped the plant once, and fed it BioBizz Acti-Vera and Top-Max every couple of days. I didn't water the plant every day, but rather as I felt it needed. At this point I wasn't checking my pH levels at all.

evilavocado Plant looking really unhealthy :( The brown spots have been appearing on the lower leaves at first starting from week 4 I would say. The leaves just dried out completely, and I took them off. I took off maybe 6 leaves in total. You can see in the pictures leaves with early stages of the symptoms and leaves with severe symptoms. I'm afraid the plant's going to die. I'm not sure if it suffers from too much or too little nutrients. The solution I'm using for watering has a pH between 6 and 6.5, depending on the batch. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks! Ok, so overfeeding is my issue, and flushing is the solution is what I understood :) I have a couple of questions though. @DutchDoobie, you said "manganese deficiency" but later you speak of Magnesium. Did you mean to say Magnesium? :) Also, which Cal-Mag supplements would you recommend? I have Advanced Nutrients - Sensi CalMag Xtra, but I'm afraid this has too much Nitrogen in it. Should I use a different Cal-Mag supplement? Another thing, since I'm a complete newb - do you have any guidelines on building up a good nutrient base after flushing?

High evilavocado, This is a manganese dificiency. Calcium, magnesium and iron deficiencies often appear together. The best way to restore is to check the curent pH value from your soil. If the pH value of your soil is not between 6.0 and 6.5 you need to flush your soil with clean pH 6.2 water, and then resupply the water nutrient solution. When your pH is already in this range you need to add the supplement Cal-Mag into your nutrient-water solution to avoid calcium and magnesium deficiencies in the future. The cause of this dificiency could be pH issues or overfeeding. The reason that you need to measure pH is because then you know if it is pH or not enough cal-mag nutritions. Otherwise you will have this problem straight away again after a short amount of time after the flush. I will explain you first how to measure the pH from soil. And after how to flush the nutrients out of the soil. 1. Place soil sample about ¾ full in sample jar and add distilled water to cover soil. 2. Cap the jar and shake the soil vigorously a few times. 3. Let mixture stand 10 minutes to dissolve the salts in the soil. 4. Place the pH tester into the wet soil slurry. 5. Measure pH and record measurement. If the pH is in the right range then you know the nutrients are the problem. In this case you need to add call-mag for after the flush!!! So flush out the build up nutrients with a good flush of your soil. I will explain you how you can do that the best. You can do this flushing by slowly pour water pH 6.2 onto the top of the soil, allowing it to drain freely from the bottom of the pot. Pour slowly, so the water doesn't overflow from the top of the pot. Use approximately four times the pot's volume in water to flush the soil. For example, use 1 gallon of water for a 1 quart pot. After the flushing you need to let the soil (almost) dry out completely. From there you can start giving water with pH 6.2 and nutrients but do not exceed EC 1.5 to make sure that you don't overfeed them and when the pH was NOT in the right range at the first measuring then give the same nutrients as before but now with the right pH 6.2 And when the pH was ALREADY right at the first measuring you need to add call-mag with your nutritions!!! Happy Growing! 😋

Healthy green leaves for new growth, burn spots on fan leaves, looks like nutrient burn. It needs to be flushed. It also desperately needs a bigger pot. But flush it first. Good luck

Hey there... thanks so much for putting up this diary... it's telling me EXACTLY what is wrong with your lady! But I want others to be able to give you their thoughts about it as well... so ask your question again in the box down below which will link this diary with your question ... the question will automatically show up on the questions page and you can look for answers there OR they will also be shown down below... and once you've chosen an answer, don't forget to select the response you feel is right! That will close out the question... :-D

@evilavocado, You are fantastic! There's one more person I would like to have a look at your question before you decide which answer you're going to go with... (and btw, it is NOT a manganese deficiency).. so please wait for a little bit - even over night... She knows a LOT about the nute line you're using...
