10 Blueberry Diesel tester seeds were put in dechlorinated water that was changed out after 48 hours and shaken often to avoid anaerobic bacteria. After 72 hours 7 had tails and 3 were cracked open. I put the 7 with tails in 1g fabric pots and let the other 3 sit for another 24 hours. After 96 hours all 10 were in 1g pots and were watered moderately around the edges. Today will be day 2 since being planted.
After 10 days from being dropped in water all 10 had breached the surface of the 1g pots and began their journey in their new enviornment. For the first 2-3 weeks they will use the nutrients already in the ocean forest, after that I will begin top dressing in gaia green all purpose and worm castings to prepare them for late veg.
20 days since starting germination and the seeds look to be sprouting their first true leaves. Looks like this will be the first day of veg and the beginning of the Veg cycle 😤. In about 2-3 weeks I’ll up pot them and assess how the root zone is doing. Seedlings all look healthy. Some floppers, but no runts. I don’t use support because I figure once the stems are strong enough I will have transplanted before then and the tops will adjust as needed. For now they can grow as they please and I will hide the stringy stems later.
Day 27 since germination and they all look great. A few are even standing up on their own without my help! They are growing their second set of leaves and are on auto pilot from here on out with me giving them about 4-6 ounces of water each once a week. I dropped the light from 36 to 24 inches above the canopy now that they are getting older and more resilient to being burned. That's it for now 😁👍🏼.
Here we are at day 32 and I can start to see some big differences. Some have big leaves, and some have smaller leaves. Some with 3 leaf nodes and some with 5 leaf nodes. Appears to be a good mix and everything looks nice and healthy still. I watered today and will probably top dress their first veg feeding next week before their next watering. Then I’ll give them a couple more weeks to sex themselves before transplanting to 3g fabric pots for the late veg stage.
Day 39. WOW.
These plants are incredibly uniform, all 10 are almost the exact same size. Super close internodal spacing amongst all of them as well. I have learned and I think mastered how to better water them as they look good for this stage of growth compared to other times I’ve grown from seed. Starting them in 1g pots I think helped as well over putting them in. 5g nursery pots. Next update they will be put into 3g smart pots and we will top dress them for the first time. Just water and ocean forest soil until this point.
Update from 12/2, Day 40 total (about day 26 of actual veg). This week I defoliated them as well as gave them some training in the form of supercropping until I can transplant them and tie down the branches. They are just starting to show sex so we should know in the next couple weeks how many girls we have going forward. Then they will get transplanted into 3 gallon pots and top dressed. They are just starting to cannabalize their leaves this week so I need it to happen ASAP or I may have to top dress a light veg feeding in the 1 gallons😂.
12/11 - Day 49 veg, day 35 veg. Plants are getting transplanted to their new 3 gallon smart pots. This will give them some food and allow them to hold more water while I’m in New York next weekend. Here are some pictures before and during defoliation and transplanting.
And here they are today on day 50 total; day 36 of veg in their new homes.
About half of them have a rubber like smell with some funk in there as well. I went a little heavy on the defoliation, but they won’t be flowered for a few months so I have time to shape them while my current run starts and finishes. My trip to New York was a surprise Christmas gift for the family I found out about last month so I can’t start flowering anything until I return. Until next time folks!
12/16 - Found 2 confirmed males today, the rest either weren’t showing or were too small and need to grow more before I am certain. Here is a couple pics of one of the males before chop. It was growing pretty even too it’s a shame. Down to 8.
Update for December 20th - Plants all bounced back from their defoliation pretty well. So far no signs of any more males or females. I went out of town on the 22nd to New York until the 26th and I watered everything heavily before I left and filled the two available bathrooms up and left the lights on, probably not ideal but safer then leaving the LEDs on. When I get back I’ll give them some time to adjust to the lights again then I’m turning them from 75 to 100% power. Also in the next month I will be adding a FCE-6500 into the mix with the 2 SP-3000’s to maximize my light per square foot instead of using the bare minimal aka about 17.5 watts per square foot. With the new light it should go up to around 39 watts per square foot but if I can get 35 I’ll be happy. Just using 4-4-4- all purpose, worm castings, oyster shell flour, and water up to this point.
Update for 12/26. I came home tonight and at some point during the 4 days the heat stopped clicking on (pilot wouldn’t light most likely and we got snow over the weekend where I live) and the apartment was 45° when we returned. I put them all under the lights as quick as possible as some still were wet from the heavy watering Thursday which means the root zone was cold and wasn’t uptaking water properly. After that I inspected the BBD and found 4 more males (1 I cut down without double checking so I’m not 100% if it was 5 or 6 males) . We are now 6/10 males for BBD and I’m just hoping for at least 3 females for some selection potential and to log a variety of phenotypes. All the males I cut down were incredibly uniform and bushyish. Not a lot of side branching but the few main branches were all even on all males. One was so frosty and good smelling it was a shame to cut it down but that’s how it goes in my garden 😂😭. The remaining plants have been transferred from the TS-600 to the TS-1000 dimmed to 75% and look quite happy. They will be watered today and left alone for now.
Day 77 total, end of week 9 of veg. All 4 of the remaining Blueberry Diesel are looking female. I’m about 95% sure and just waiting on the hairs to pop out so I can confirm them. They have bounced back from the cold temps and overwatering and still have about 3 more months of veg before the flower room is open. I have ordered an FC-E6500 to supplement the 2 SP-3000’s already in the flower space for around 39 watts per square foot. Now that I have confirmed they are most likely female I will start to aggressively top and defoliate them and shape them so I can flip them when the flower room becomes available.
Update for 1/8. Day 84 total, Day 70 end of week 10 of veg. I have confirmed that 3/4 are 100% female and the 4th looks like it has a couple hairs popping where the petioles should be, but I don't not see the petioles just a couple hairs. No pollen sacks so I'm pretty sure it's a late blooming female. I will defoliate them tonight and maybe top them again depending on what the structure looks like. I will also be feeding some all purpose from Gaia Green, worm castings, and oyster shell flour to help hold them over until their last veg feeding before flower.
Update for day 86 - Upgraded each of the @vivosun tents with a @mars.hydro FC-E6500 720W LED. Now each tents has 1 FCE-E6500 and 2 SP-3000's totaling about 1320W for the 4x8 spaces. This should help with more even plant growth across the entire canopy as well as with the vigor of the plants shortening veg times dramatically.
Update for day 91 - Plants are all doing well and looking like they had little to no shock from being switched to the new enviornment. All 4 are between 16-18 inches tall from the soil surface and have 4 main tops at least on each. 2 look better structure wise with all 4 main tops growing in a plus sign when seen from above, whereas the other 2 are more stretched out and uneven. Hopefully with time that can be fixed or reduced before flower.
My brother has taken over caring for these as I have a run currently going to flower next week. They were given a liquid nutrient feed today because he noticed the plants were growing slowly and looking a little sad. The problem resolved itself when he raised the lights because the issue was the lights were actually too powerful for the young plants (Bahama Mama). He may have turned down the power too, but I am not 100%. They look great and hopefully will be in flower soon. Now the lights are about 24 inches from the canopy and everything is looking great!
Day 105 total, Day 91 of veg (End of week 13). Plants look super healthy and still have plenty of food from their top dress a couple weeks ago. In the next 10 days we will be feeding them either their last veg feeding or their transition nutrients and start to prepare for flower. They were topped about 3-4 days ago and still need some more time to heal.
Update Feb 16 - Day 123 Total, 109 of veg. Mid week 16. Plants are bouncing back from their last topping and defoliation before being flipped to flower in a couple weeks.
Update Feb 18th - Day 125 total, 111 veg. Nearing the end of week 16. Plants were all given a transitional feeding of Worm castings, All purpose, Power bloom, and Oyster shell flour. They will be flipped into flower within the next 2 weeks.
@MrMayhem1134, Thank you 💚, and yeah, SBR is a great strain. I did let them veg too long, though, and they streeeeeeeeeeeeetched a lot in flower so I ran out of room. I will take better care with proper training next time! 😁
@love_2_grow, much appreciated as always bro. Seen you grew sugar black rose! I love that strain and have been checking out your grow journal. Super detailed man great job!!!
