10 / 23 / 2022: PLA & CPA Seeds presented tap roots this morning. Still waiting on Knows Candy. 10 / 24 /2022: 2 x PLA & 1 x CPA broke surface ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 / 25 / 2022: Plants 1 x Knows Candy ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 / 26 / 2022: (a) 1 x Knows Candy "breaking" surface this AM (b) May add a 5th plant - competition is on with two seeds: Gorilla Glue or one more Knows Candy. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 / 27 / 2022: Still in the humidity dome, only lightly watering. Just enough to keep. soil damp, but not soaked. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 / 28 / 2022 As of now, I have six plants above the ground. I can only keep 5, so I am going to take the 5 healthiest of the plants. I only have 4 Fabric AutoPots, so the 5th plant is going into a SIP-style bucket in the center of the other 4 pots. This bucket is 3.5 gallons, otherwise it has the same dimensions of a 5-gallon bucket (minus overall height). The choice for a 3.5 gal bucket was purely for height reasons. I'm trying to keep the bucket closer to the tops of the 5-gallon fabric pots. This will help with light distance later on. My SIP of choice is the GroBucket®️ system. I'll post some pics for those who haven't seen this set up before. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10 / 29 / 2022 Germ Day 6 (Overall) The 6-Day plants received a bit of 1/3-strength of Jack's 3-2-1 in the pot dish only. By the time the roots get to the bottom they'll be ready for a small meal. 3 & 4 Plants are still on a tiny bit of water to keep soil damp. Starting to feed the water through the bottom out of the pot saucer. The 1/3 mixture includes: (a) Front Row Ag mono-silicic acid, (b) Mr. Fulvic and (c) Orca Liquid Mycorrhizae ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Germ Day 7 - Pics and Notes: The first thing that stands out is how much bigger Gorilla Glue is compared to Knows Candy #2. Gorilla was hatched one day later. Gorilla Glue is almost as big as the plants that Germed 3 days earlier. I continue watering from the bottom small amounts at a time. Most suck the fluid right up. However, when I notice there is still fluid in the saucer when I check back later I pour it out. I am damned determined not to overwater this batch like I did last time. All but Knows Candy #2 are getting a 33% strength of their full strength Jack's 3-2-1. I'm waiting to see if it makes its way out of being the runt of the litter. KC#2 is getting a mix of Root Stimulant (1/3 dose for all), Mr. Fulvic and mono-silicic acid. Tomorrow, I'll call the 7-Day Germs (from today) Week 1 Veg, and all will be Week 2 Veg the following week (growth dependent).

Week 1. Vegetation
October 31, 2022 Today begins Week 1 Veg, even for the plants that germed after the first 3 plants. I'll decide this week which plant to pull. I can only grow 5 at a time. See photos of possible light damage. Week 1 - Issues: Starting Week 1 (Veg) and I've hit my first issue. I suspect these pictures show excessive protons - excessive light. This morning, I realized my timer wasn't turning off. It is now, but I think 24 hours of 250 PPFD for 7 straight days was more than the Purple Lemonade can take. I don't think it is an over watering thing, I have been paying attention this grow. My plants are sitting on tiny saucers and I put water in the saucer and when the plant sucks it up, I put a little more in. If that water is not taken up, I pour it out so that it doesn't sit in a small puddle of water. This makes me think my accidental 24-hour lighting was more than the plants could handle. I have corrected this and they are now on an 18/6 light schedule. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11/01/22 Day 9: Data The seedlings are maintaining, while working on the second set of True Leaves. Knows Candy #2 is still locked a stunted phase. I think I have stopped the light damage to both Purple Lemonades. One extra observation, both of the PLs have much skinnier stems than the others. I hope this doesn't mean these tend to be a little more sensitive to adversity. I put my main grow tent Govee environment monitor in the seedling tent to ensure I am keeping the seedling in their ideal enveronment (or close anyway). Daily Avg. Temp: 80.2ºF Daily Avg. RH%: 75.8 Rounded: 80/76 VPD: 0.85 (this calculation is from the Govee app) I plugged these numbers into the Pulse VPD Calculator on Setting #1 (Clone setting - should be similar for Seedlings) ti see if my Govee app is accurate. Thankfully it is, although I am likely to still use Pulse calculator because has 3 settings: Clone, Veg & Flower. The separate settings shift as the growth stage changes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 10 (for most): Gave a bit of light nutrients this AM. Any excess liquid was poured into the top soil. We are only talking about drops of excess. This evening, I'll put my seedling mix in the saucers. This is RO water, liquid Orca mycorrhizae, beneficial bacteria (Prime Supreme), Mr. Fulvic, and mono-silicic acid. My average temp was 81ºF over the last 24 hours. I will bring that back into the upper 70s, starting today. I think 77º should be okay. VPD is running just right. However, I think the following combination of temps and RH% may be more appropriate until Monday, when I switch over to Veg numbers. Finish out Clone/Seedling Phase at 80º/80% Veg (estimated) Target VPD 75º / 66%. The runt looks green and problem free, but doesn't grow. I'm keeping it alive, out of curiosity. Plus, if any of the other dampens out, I'd still bring it to the good tent on the SIP bucket, so it would be the least disruptive in the tent. Darkness begins at 1000 am and runs to 1600. Day 10 - Evening Photos I realized I have been flip-flopping my dates on some of the plants that came after the main group. For example, today is Day 10 for the oldest plants: Main Group Germinated: 10/24/22 (Day 10) Knows Candy #1 - 10/25/22 (Day 9) Knows Candy #2 (runt) - 10/27/22 (Day 7) - Slow to No Grow Gorilla Glue - 10/28/22 (Day 6) - Fast Grower Day # changes next Monday: To make matters for labeling, etc., all plants will be called Day 15 this coming Monday (11/07/22). After a few weeks, the few days that separate them will be insignificant. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 11 This morning Purple Lemonade #2 fell over when I moved the pot. I propped it up. I hope it is not dampening off. I think the Runt (KC #2) actuall grew a little overnight. VPD: I'm mostly dialed in. Just a block or so off of "Perfect" New Temp Average: 82ºF ( I want it lower) Turned on 4" exhaust fan to remove some of the hotter air New VPD Goal: 77ºF / 68% ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 12: Day 12 - Issues With Purple Lemonade Initially, Purple Lemonade (PL) 1 & 2 received too much light (note yellow tips). Once I noticed the excess light, I corrected it. Other physical observations: (1) Skinny Stems: They have always had skinny stems. I have a gentle breeze giving them a light jiggle to toughen stems. This is complicated because I am using supports when I notice that are leaning over from their top weight. I don't suspect damping off at this point. (2) Downward Pointing Leaves: However, what concerns me now is that the leaves are pointing downward. I know that overwatering and under-watering can present this way. In this case, it is unlikely that I am overwatering. I say this because I have made a point to gently water from the bottom and we are talking a tablespoon or less in the dish. Once it is sucked up, I add a bit more to see if that goes up quickly. If it doesn't draw up fairly quickly, I pour the excess out. Taking this all in, I decided to feed from the top. I didn't use a lot of fluid, but enough to darken the coco coir. This was done about an hour ago. They are going all night under lights. So, I'll report more on this over the weekend. Update: I just went to the tent and and noticed more leaves were pointing downward. I checked the DLI and was near 35 DLI. This tells me that my iPhone and iPad read differently from each other using the Photone App. I use my iPhone most of the time, but earlier I had my iPad with me and turned up the dimmer based on that reading to be near 25 DLI. It is corrected now. So, between a little more h2o (with light nutes) and now a more tolerable light I might get to see some praying plants soon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day 13 - I may have gotten it wrong. Maybe my small sips from the bottom were too much water and not enough? Maybe they were not ready for a 1/3 strength nutrient blend? Maybe these turned down leaves were from moving up the DLI too soon (24 DLI - 18/6) Maybe it was a combination of things listed above? How am I going to deal with it? 1) Watering: Remember, yesterday I thought they could be under watered, so I added a mixture of 33% nutes and some root stimulator. Even though the coco is darker, it still fluffs up (at the top inch or so). Even so, I am not going to water until Monday AM (or Sunday PM if evaporation is obvious). 2) Lights: I also turned the lights back down to 17 DLI. If they start praying now, I'll know to give them more light. In the future, I might consider adding a little solution into the watering that works to kill root rot. That decision will come by the next watering. Day 13 PM - Having Fun with Pics I'm a little worried about my PL #2. She'll be fine. I just know those leaves are going to lift to the heavens soon (fingers crossed). The Runt (KC #1) looks healthy. It just won't grow. There is some good news: all stems are now strong and no support is needed. The cotyledons are turning yellow on most plants. They are going to depend on me starting soon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 14 - Executive Decision Time Let's Be Honest: I only have 2 plants out of 5 that are reasonably thriving. I have to admit it to myself and to anyone who reads this journal Thoughts on Auto Flower plants: With auto flowers, I want them to come out of the gate ready to run. I understand that isn't always possible, but I have 5 pots to fill, and right now I only have 2 that seem ready to run. My Solution: Having said all this, I have decided to soak three more.seeds. If the current ones take off, then so be it. I'll just hold my own Hunger Games here in my Grow Journal. I have to be realistic. Tomorrow is 15 days since the germination for the ones to enter the competition. Silver Lining: That's the beauty of situations like this with auto flowers. You can stagger them into the tent at different times. There is some good news. The Gorilla Glue is showing a root coming out the small hole at the bottom of the pot. ----------------------------------------------------

Week 2. Vegetation

Day 15 - Second Chances I transplanted them all to the 4 x 4 tent. Gorilla Glue and Critical Purple both had nice root growth and were ready. The two Purple Lemonades had a surprising amount of roots for their size. Transferring the Knows Candy #2 was a mess. The soil fell apart and I had to give the roots a brand-new home without the pot coco coir that normally transfers over from the seedling pot. It was like starting from scratch with a seed and tap root. Once they were replanted, I wet them in with full-strength Jack's 3-2-1. I also included monosilicic acid, Mr. Fulvic and Rhizotonic. I made large circles around the new plant, from a few inches away to the outer pot. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 16 - Photos Possible Good News: I think the troubled Purple Lemonade #2 has started to raise its leaves. Remember, those leaves were tightly down, like a Marine, during a uniform inspection. Possible Problem: Note the small spots forming. Can you tell me if this is the beginning of a deficiency? Not out of the Woods: I am on standby with three new seeds. Those seeds are not soaking -- just yet. The three smallest have one more week to show happy-plant growth. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 16 Cont'd: Setting Up the Big Tent (4'x4') 12-Gallon Auto Pot Reservoir: I added 3-gallons at a time to make 9-gallons total. Ingredients per 3-Gallon Reservoir Batches: (1) 3-Gallon RO Water (2) 01.5 ml Monosilicic Acid (Front Row Ag SI) (3) 01.0 ml Mr. Fulvic (4) 01.5 ml Orco (myco) (5) 10.0 ml Vitamins & Amino Acids (6) 07.5 ml SLF-100 Enzymes (7) 3-Drops of House & Garden Drip Clean - For 9 gallons Overall Final Concentration for 9-gallons: (a) 1.844 E.C (b) 5.83 pH Note: 9-gallons finished at 6.07 pH - corrected to 5.83 Depth of AutoPot Reservoir: For Those of You Using AutoPots with the 12-gallon reservoir - Depth of Rez per 3 gallon additions: 3-gal: 07 inches 6-gal: 12 inches 9-gal: 17 inches Open Reservoir to Plants: Mfr. suggests waiting 2 weeks before turning it all on. I'll turn it on next Monday after 1-week. It takes a while for the liquid to permeate the 5 gallons of coco. AirDomes: However, I will wait the full 2 weeks to turn on the air supply for the AirDomes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 18 - A Few Changes The last "Knows Candy" was pulled last night from the yellow SIP Bucket. The growth was stalled and it just didn't look well. The "Why" is my fault. When I washed and buffered the coco, I threw that wet medium into the SIP bucket to wait for a week or so for transplant time. The problem with that decision is that the coco stayed wet and so the young transplant was dealing with a heavy moist soil to try and spread through. So, I disassembled the bucket setup, and now the coco is spread out on a blue tarp to dry. Then I will just start over. My "start over" is going to be something different. I'm making my 5th plant a Sweet Nurse Auto CBD plant from Sweet Seeds: Indica: 60% Sativa: 39.2% Ruderalis:0.8% THC: 5-10% CBD:10-16% THC:CBD Ratio: (1:1–1:2) Indoor Yield: 400-600 g/m² Harvest: 8 weeks from germination Height: 60-110 cm Effects:Relaxing, Medicinal, Appetite Taste: Spices, Skunk, Sweet Current Grow News: Both Purple Lemonades have recovered nicely, but are still pretty small. On the left side of the tent, the Gorilla Glue and Critical Purple are also coming along and growing. I did turn on the Reservoirs for a few hours to get some of the food at the bottom of the pots for when the roots make their way down. It's now tuned off until the total biomass is a more prominent. Struggling with getting the environment in the proper VPD. We are in a strange weather pattern where it is unseasonably warm. This weekend it turns cold. Meaning, the heat from the lights can be a feature, instead of a bug. I ordered a new heater, one that I can hang and keep off the ground. It's a wall-mount design so there is no tip-over safety switch to worry about. The tent is in a mostly climate controlled area so it should get easier to get leveled off soon. I did add a 6-inch booster fan to the ceiling of the tent to help move some of the heat out. Here is the heater I desided on: EconoHome Wall Mount Space Heater Panel - with Thermostat and Heat Guard Cover - 400W Convection Heater - for 120 Sq Ft Room - 120V - Overheat Protection I normally use one of those oil-filled heaters, but floor space is limited this grow. I'll work on some quality photos after the lights come on this afternoon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 18 - Photos Although all of them seem stunted to some degree, they are now on the move growth-wise. I trimmed away some of the necrotic leaf material on the Purple Lemonade plants. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 19 - Photos (Friday 11/11/22 - Veterans Day) Not much to add. New growth seems like it is happening. I've resisted watering since I put them in the AutoPots on Monday. The coco is nicely damp. Because I turned on the AutoPots for a few hours, I know they will eventually find food if they head south in the pots. Next up - build up the microbe population. I'll do that during the next watering and top feed. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 20 - Notes: I couldn't wait; I turned on the reservoir. Those four pots sucked up even more nutrients. Just turning the system on (once for 3 hours and now full time) the pots sucked up 6 gallons of nutrients. The way to tell that the amount was 6 gallons - depth went from 17" to 7". New Nutrients Added: 6 more gallons RO water Jack’s 3-2-1 Full Strength (p/gallon): Part (A) -- 3.79g Part (B) -- 2.52g, Epsom --- 0.99g With the appropriate amount of the following: (a) Mono-Silicic Acid (Why? See Below) (b) Mr. Fulvic (Why? See Below) (c) Orca (Microbes) (d) Photosynthesis Plus (Microbes) (e) Vitamins & Amino Acids (f) SLF-100 (Why" See Below) (g) House & Garden HGDPC002 Drip Clean (cleans lines & salts control) (h) Southern Ag Garden Friendly Fungicide (98.85% Bacillus amyloliquefaciens) (IPM) (i) Ecological Labs Microbe Lift (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) (Fungus Gnats) Why Mr. Fulvic?: Mr. Fulvic has Antiviral, Antibacterial, and Antifungal properties Contains: • 70 Trace Mineral & Elements • Macro Minerals • 13 Carbolic Acids • 18 Amino Acids • 22 Terpenoids/Flavanoids • 38 Antioxidants • Electrolytes Why Mono-silicic (ortho) acid? • Thicker stalks • Thicker stems • More lateral branching • Tight internodal spacing • Uniform flowers • High yields • More vigorous and stress-resistant plants Why SLF-100 (enzymatic formula)? SLF-100 is formulation of multiple species of bacteria (including): • Pseudomonas putida - an antagonist for pythium and fusarium. • Virgibacillus pantothenticus (VP) - production of ectoine and proline: -- VP helps plants to adapt to environmental stressors • Bacillus thuringiensis - helps with some pests - also anti-pathogenic properties. • Bacillus subtillus - catalase-positive bacteria that helps with: -- For biotic and abiotic stress tolerance caused by: -- (1) Induced systemic resistance (ISR) -- (2) Biofilm formation -- (3) Lipopeptide production So they say! : ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More Day 20 Info: New Tent Heater: I thought I would show off the new tent heater. I was looking for ways to free up floor space, and I found this "wall-mount" design. The best way to describe the feel of it is to image a 3/8-inch thick piece of slate tile. Of course, I never intended to mount it on the wall, but I did intend to attach it to the tent support framing via heavy-duty corded hangers. It's running through a BN-Link temperature controller to come on if the tent drops below 72ºF. Since it's radiant heat, I'm going to take an extra 4-inch inline booster fan and mount it on the back at the top, pointing downward. I'll use a C-Clamp. Pointing it down the back should gently move the warm air toward the floor. At this (veg) phase, I am just trying to keep the temps in the upper 70s during the day, and low 70s when lights are out. As a bonus, I'll give you a tour of my tent. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 20 - Enviromental Data The weather turned cold overnight, and I am having issues getting my relative humidity to stay in the 60%-range. To help, I now have two humidifiers, and I added a Swamp Cooler. The Cooler won't cool much, but it does throw moisture all about. The cooler looks like a fat tower fan, so I normally use it as an extra fan when needed. Feeding from the Reservoir: As you can see from the data sheet posted below, I am now on the reservoir, so I am including the important data points that I track. Because of a horrible lockout during my last grow, I now double-check the EC and pH in the small AutoPot valve housing. I was using slow-dissolved nutrients in the media. So, the runoff was all over the place. In time, I am likely to drop those stats, as everything is now coming from under the plants. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 22 - Nothing Special Events of Note: Raised DLI to 30 - see if I can tempt the PLs into "rapid and tremendous" growth. pH is slowly rising from 5.8 to 5.9. I'll let the reservoir get to 6.4 before bringing it back down. The moving pH range should slide into a variety of element sweet spots for uptake. Two Seeds are in the Germ Tent, both vying for only one spot in the SIP Bucket.

November 14 - Start Week 3 (Germ counts as one): Stunted Plants are on the move. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 24 Overall - - Changed from 18 hours to 20 hours lights on. - Giving Purple Lemonades until Day 35 Biggest Change of the Day: The Purple Lemonades jumped up an inch or so. I'm amazed at the thickness of the Critical Purple main stem. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 28 - End of Week 3 (Week 4 if you include Germ Week) Let's take a look at the numbers and see if anything pops out. (1) DLI -- As you can see, I've been raising the light intensity this week. (2) DLI -- I also switched to 20/4 lights. I need to fix my log header. (3) VPD -- I'm holding mid-70s fine, but even with 2 humidifiers I am struggling to get in the "Perfect" zone (4) E.C. -- This represents full-strength Jack's 3-2-1. No tip burns on new growth (for now). (5) pH -- Everything I read says stay around 5.8 with coco. So, that's my plan. (6) pH -- I don't mind a little drift up, but when it gets to 6.0 I'll bring it back down (7) AutoPot Data - I dropped taking daily readings of the AP valve chambers. (8) AutoPot Data - Everyday the numbers very close. One less worry.

Week 4. Vegetation

11/21/2002: Day 29 - Both Purple Lemonades continue to grow taller, while not adding nodes. I will give them until Day 35 to make an assessment. Added 3 gallons to Rez. This lowered the pH from 5.8 to 5.6. I raised that back to 5.8. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More Day-30 Shenanigans Critical Topping After that last photo session, as I was processing the pics, I realized that Critical Purple was ready to be topped. Well, that's just what happened tonight. I also followed the Bill Ward training technique of taking the highest fan leaves to help slow the growth further along with the topping. Removing those solar panels, joins the topping with a jolt of stress that slows down growth for a few days, which allows some of the smaller lower bud sites a chance to catch up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 31 - Notes & Photos Overall Notes: CP is the most robust plant in the tent. GG has the most foliage (per size of the plant). Purple Lemonades are just freaky and tall. All plants are taking up the nutrients very well. There is just a little leaf spotting. At lights out, all get a Ca/Mg Foliar & Thorough Micro Nutrient Foliar. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 32 - Notes on Purple Lemonades (#1 & #2) I am still on the fence about topping the PLs. As of now, there are only 3 nodes. And those are mile apart. I normally don't count the lower nodes that have not yet produced five-finger leaves. To me, those are mature nodes. That's just my way of looking at it. I could be wrong. If I remember, I think I am counting those immature nodes to get to three total. I have thought about these two plants a lot. I think I am going to stake them, and let them run. They are under their own light, so I can customize their grow as though they are the only two in the tent. What's funny, these scrawny daddy-long-legs are already in preflower. I think that's why I am ok with letting them run. ** Note: I reserve the right to change my mind at any minute. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 33 - Photos and Other Curosities Things are strumming along. However, I have 3 plants screaming for "More Cow Bell" and one who thinks she Eyore the sad donkey. I think Gorilla Glue is just light fatigued. I noticed the DLI was up to 44 on her. The good news is that this pic was taken about five minutes before lights out. For the Purple Lemonades, #1 is definitely more advanced with pre-flower than PL#2. It's fun to see the three different phenotypes. CP is tall and branched out, whereas GG is short and stocky, with lots of foliage. PL's are a beast unto themselves. Tall and lanky, while refusing to grow laterally. As you will see, I have two healthy seedlings in the wings. Those two were supposed to fight it out for the SIP bucket, but now they may get a fabric bag final home. I say this because last night I scored Gnome Genetics Black Strap Seeds. I've been waiting for these to become available. Plus, they come with some over-the-horizon freebies called Methane. Now enjoy the sight of the Friday Grow Tent Special  Remember, when not trying to diagnose something, I take liberties with reality when processing photos. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 34 - Not Much to Report ... Except Last night, I made an executive decision. I decided to remove two large fan leaves. They were blocking a few future bud sites that I would like to catch up to the freshly topped Gorilla Glue. Tucking was not going to work. This is the last top-of-plant related trimming because flowering is around the corner. I've already removed the two bottom nodes as I wait for the plant to get to a point where lolipopping is appropriate. Keep in mind, I am not worried about affecting yield. I only grow for myself. I'll get enough (and more) to last me through growing periods. My intention is to experiement on AutoFlower plants to either confirm or debunk Bro-Science claims. Some of these so-called wivestales seem to date back to the early-day versions of the less robust AFs. I'm perfectly OK being terribly wrong with my choices. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 35 - Last Minute Call From the Governor ... A few days ago, I decided to wait until Day 35 to decide on pulling the gangly low-node Purple Lemonades. Right after making that decision wouldn't you know, Purple Lemonade #1 jumped into flowering. I'll take "fear of death" as a motivator any time. On the other hand, PL#2 is lagging. In all fairness, Critical Purple and Gorilla Glue are not in flower yet either. Although, they are busy making noticable flower making areas. This "live-or-let-die" decision was made easy because I had 2 more seedlings in the wings. Although, I may be back to one seedling if my Cheese XXL doesn't improve (pics to follow). Now Let's get to some Other Grow Notes: Retreat on the Recharge (1) I gave them their first Recharge this past Friday PM. (2) I may have screwed up the Recharge Application by applying with the current nutrient mix. I'll explain. Remember I am growing in AutoPots, so the lower section of my pot is damp with nutrients at all times. Normally, this creates a beautiful homestasis. The top part stays damp too, but a lot less damp. Roots are free to head South for food when needed. The top roots stay in a nice enviroment, never drying out, but never overwatered. Well, this genius decided to turn off the valves to each plant's reservoir (at the pot). Then drain the nutrient-lled water from all 4 AutoPots, then top off with another 2 liters from the master reservoir. This gave me a liter for each plant when I returned the Recharged Nutrients back to the pots. On paper this is a great idea. Yet it wasn't a good idea by giving a litter of fluid to the top of the pot. Oh, it gets worse. You see, I only took out about 500 ML of nutrients from each pot's rez. Yet, I put back in a liter. But wait, there's more. Once the excess passed through the coco, I drained the excess and put it through the coco again, while trying to add to places that looked dry on the surface. I wanted the whole pot to enjoy the lovely Recahrge Spa Tratment. On the other hand, I just created an extremely damp environment in the coco. Now, I have "air" being pumped into the root zone, so I don't fear root rot (yet). Plus my rez always has something in it that attacks the cause of roor rot. Nevertheless, the roots are having to deal with a lot more moisture then they are used to having around the roots. Only one plant (Gorilla Glue) showed over-watering signs, curled and downward pointing leaves. What's the Lesson Learned? : Next time, I'll drain the individual pot reservoirs, then only apply 500 ml to mostly one area. Since using a smaller amount, I'll repeat this once a week moving around the plant each time to a new location. That way, over a month's period the whole circumfrence of the plant will have gotten the Recharge to its "zone." Mainly, I won't keep draining and re-running the liquid over and over trying to make each zone all Recharged up. My thinking is that if only applying Recharge to only 25% to the pot, some of the microbes will go out and explore other areas of the root zone. If not, in a week their root zone neighbors will get their dose of the dark-water goodness. Plus, I won't over saturate the whole pot and it will stay mostly as AutoPots naturally do - more moisture a the bottom than at the top. The extra fluid will be in a finite water column. Finally, if any of the poured Recharge makes it down to the reservoir that's ok too. It won't be enough to mess with the "waterline" each AquaValve allows for. So, after about 20 minutes and checking gravity's work, I'll turn the valves back on and let the reservoirs fill up naturally. If there is some of the Recharge mixed in with the newly-added nutrients ... it's all good. Bottomline: "Too much of a good thing = a possible bad thing." ~~ Wise Old Navy Guy Next Notable Happening: Bottom 1/3rd Day I decided to do a first Bottom 1/3rd Removal Day after I took these iPad pics. You'll have to wait until tomorrow. : ) -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Week 5. Vegetation

Day 36 - Cleaned Up for Monday Photos • I've been torturing the poor Gorilla Glue. • I've removed a lot of leaves blocking bud sites. • Tucking was just not enough. • Cleaned out any smaller underneath leaves that just suck on the resources. • Plus, any leaves facing the plant's main stem are "outta here. • "Purple Lemonade #1 sure isn't pretty, but it's still the only plant truly showing flowering. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As of Day 37 - the only plnt truly in flower is the Purple Lemonade #1. Day 37 - the Calcium Monster A couple of days ago, I noticed that Goilla Glue was showing some deficiencies. My gut (and the internet) told me that I was most likely looking at a Ca issue. This is happening even though, my coco was double buffered by me with two sessions of 24 hours each time. Plus, my Jack's recipe has more Ca(NO3)2 (Part B) than the last time I grew. They raised both A&B. With all this preparation and improved diet, Coco Coir still gives me the middle finger. My First Attack: So, I decided to go at this a different way. First, a good old-fashion Ca/Mg Foliar spray. Then I added 10ml (mixture) to a syringe with a 4-inch blunt needle and pumped into the soil about 3-inches away from the stem. I started at the 12-o'clock position and about every 12 hours I have moved to the 3-o'clock and this morning the 6-o'clock mark on the pot. This evening I'll put 10 ml more at the 9-o'clock mark. The good news is I didn't see new trouble this AM. My Plan B: If the above doesn't work, since I am using AutoPots and I am relectant to top "drench" more after the Rechsrge incident, I may apply a small amount of concentrated Ca/Mg to the each pot's bottom reservoir. I know there is about 250 ml of nutrient fluid at any given time in these reservoirs (and under the media). So, my concentrated mixture will be based 1-gallon divided by 8 (for 1/2 strength). So, if Cali-Magic is 1 ml a liter, I'll stir 0.125 ml of straight Ca/Mg into the mini-reservoirs (instead of the normal 0.250 ml). By going straight to the pot's reservoir, the Ca/Mg circumvents the main reservoir (12-gal) and should allow the lower roots close to immediate access. So, to recap, Plan A is foliar and 10 ml injections (diluted to per-1-gallon ratio) 4-to-5 inches into the coco. If that doesn't stop signs of a deficiency, then Plan B is add a 1/2-ratio diluted solution to each unit's reservoir. I do realize if I go to far with the Ca/Mg that it could cause potassium, magnesium, manganese and iron lockout deficiencies. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 37 - MORE on Calcium Monster Note: These pictures are heavily processed to accentuate Calcium issues. So, don't take the dark green coloring as accurate. Nitrogen is okay (so far) with these plants. These photos are for visual stimulation only! By the way, I'm assuming from internet sluething that this is a Ca issue, by all means correct me if I have it wrong. I decided to take a closer look at the Gorilla Glue calcium issues. These are just iPhone pics that have been "heavily massaged" with my normal photo processor (DxO Photo Lab 6 Elite). As I wrote above, I think I have a good plan to stop this trend. These pics are from Gorilla Glue, but later in my next photo posting, you will see that the Purple Lemonades have some CA issues too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 39 - Photos & Notes Gorilla Glue seems to be under Calcium Control. Critical Purple is Maintenance Free So Far. The Purple Lemonades may be funny looking, but they are the first to flower. PL#2 is now showing small signs of pre-flowering. I added about 1ml of Ca/Mg to GG's small reservoir, and I continue to foliar feed Ca/Mg. I removed a few stem-facing leaves. All flower sites are exposed to max lighting now. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Week 6. Vegetation
Begin Week 6 Day 43 - I left as "Still in Veg" because the CP and GG are not flowering yet. Although, the PLs are both in Flower. PL#1 got started first. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 44 - Training Day ... But No Denzel I have to stop pruning major leaves on Critical Purple. She should be about ready to start Flower any day now. Because of this I want the potential flower locations to have leaf-free access to the LEDs. Hence, Training Day. I also have two limbs on Purple Lemonade #2 are shaded from about. On a normal plant I would have removed this node set. However, these plants have been strange from Day 1, so I have left them mostly alone. Gorilla Glue is a dwarfy Bonsai tree. Although, it has a ton of potential flower sites. As you will see, Purple Lemonade #1 is a flowering fool. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's Day 45 ... just for the record, when I closed the tent on Day 44 everything seemed perfect. But then Day 45. First the setup: Conditions: VPD Mostly Excellent (Fº / RH) Media: Coco - Perlite - Vermiculite Lighting: 42 DLI Nutrients: Jacks 3-2-1 at 2.0 EC Container: AutoPots / 5-gal Fabric / AirBase with natural air aerated into media with AirDome When I opened the tent this morning, the first thing I see is Purple Lemonade #2 is not happy (photos below). Symptoms: Curl and Canoeing Leaves Hyper Praying Position Some leaves crunchy like paper Diagnosis Actions: Checked for soil moisture - excellent Checked pH in AquaValve (AV) reservoir - 6.0 Checked EC in AV reservoir: WOW! It was in the low 4s EC Checked EC & pH in other reservoirs all normal - all within decimal points of the master reservoir Physical Actions: Flushed the heck out of the coco with RO water After 4 liters passed through I measured the Run Off water: 3.62 EC After about 4 gallons passed through: EC 0.90 I stopped flushing ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More Day 45 Day 45 -- Cont'd What caused this nightmare? I realized that my lights had moved to 54 DLI somehow. I was keeping them near 40 DLI. I say this because Purple Lemonade #1 has something going on too. It's just not as bad. Day 45 - Cont'd -- It's Not All Bad News The good news of the day is that Gorilla Glue has started to flower. Only one left to go is Critical Purple. CP is my best looking plant, but she ain't ready for the Big Show. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 46 - Just Some Flower Pics I completely cleaned and refilled the Master Reservoir.  No more Photosynthesis Plus in there and no aminos. Those items will be special treats for the AquaValve Reservoirs. Along with things like Recharge. What Does Go In:   •  I'm going to add Cal/Mg, because of my RO Water.    •  (Two Grows in a Row I have battled the Calcium Monster.)   •  Mono-Silicic Acid   •  Mr. Fulvic    •  SLF-100 or whatever enzyme I chose in the future.   •  Orca for Microbes I'm growing with Jack's this round, but I have a Blackstrap (Gnome Genetics x Brother Mendel collab.) in the germ tent that is going to grow up on FloraFlex. I thought I would give it a try. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 47 - Shifting to Flower What That Means to Me The PLs are in flower and have been. Gorilla Glue is just starting to show hairs Critical Purple is slightly less than GG This means it's time to "shift colors" as we say in the Navy. However, these colors are VPD related. Now, they are on the Pulse®️ "Flowering" chart instead of Veg. What Does this Mean: My tent loves 75ºF, so it is best I work with whatever Relative Humidity that makes for a happy VPD. In this case, now I am shooting for: 75ºF / 50 - 58% RH Whereas, before in Veg the targets were: 75ºF / 64 - 68% RH My two humifiers will be happier and more relaxed. More Updates: See flowering status above PL#2 still shows massive leaf damage. Those leave will never look better But I hope they are still able photosyntesize (a little) Not all leaves were damaged before I flushed. Last night, I dumped out about 8 gallons of nutes Cleaned and Sanitized the Master Reservoir Started over with nutrients Changed Tactics in what goes in the Rez And what goes in the pot reservoirs Tactics Change means only the following goes in the big reservoir: Jack's 3-2-1 CaliMagic - new because of too many Calcium issues (even w/buffered coco) Orca for Microbes Mono-Silic Acid Mr. Fulvic SLF-100 Enzymes House & Garden Drip Clean (Line Cleaner) Note on DripClean - Account for a little extra P & K Microbe Lift Mosquito (Fungus Gnats) Control What Doesn't Go In the Rez:  Anything that can stink over time now goes into the Pot's Rez after a short dry-back. Meaning, I'll make a mini-potion of things like: Photosythesis Plus Recharge Amino Acids (not sure if these ever stink) I'll probably add these on a weekly basis. Sort of like having your bath on Saturdays!

Week 7. Vegetation

Day 43 - Final Haircut Critical Purple and Gorilla Glue got their final haircut. Neither are in preflower yet. Well, there might be a hint of it, but enough to photograph. I thoroghly cleaned out Critical Purple. Wheras, Gorilla Glue is just too bushy and too small. I did remove the lowest node branches, just so there could be more concentration of growth higher in the plant. Otherwise, everything is going well. My odd-pheno Purple Lemonades are in full flower production. You can't smell them in the garage yet, but you can when you open the tent. These pics were taken just after the lights went out with an iPhone. I've stopped all foliar spraying of the PLs. The flowers have passed the point where I am comfortable to keep spraying. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 44 - Training Day ... But then Day 45. I started a "What Do I Do Next" type thread in a different section. But for the Journal's sake I am bringing the photo into here as well. I don't want to repeat everything, but here is the gist of I woke to: When I opened the tent this morning, the first thing I see is Purple Lemonade #2 is not happy (photos below). Symptoms: Curl and Canoeing Leaves Hyper Praying Position Some leaves crunchy like paper Diagnosis Actions: Checked for soil moisture - excellent Checked pH in AquaValve (AV) reservoir - 6.0 Checked EC in AV reservoir: WOW! Now, scroll up and see what it looked like yesterday. Wow - fast! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 46 - Just Some Flower Pics I completely cleaned and refilled the Master Reservoir. No more Photosynthesis Plus in there and no aminos. Those items will be special treats for the AquaValve Reservoirs. Along with things like Recharge. I was just having fun with the camera. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day 47 - Shifting to Flower -- What That Means to Me The PLs are in flower and have been. Week 8. Flowering
2 years ago
Day 50 - Begin Week 8 Notables: • Critical Purple is still not flowering - Double Checked - It is Auto • Look at Close Ups of CP and tell me if there is pre-flowering there • Gorilla Glue's Private Reservoir creeped up to 2.75 • I drained and refreshed with 2.00 EC • I also added some Enzymes (SLF-100) to the Mix • Along with some Root Rot Preventor & Aminos Acids and Vitamins • I did the same to PL# 1 - Just as medicine for a hard week • All others are matching the big reservoir Day 51 - Photos Best news of the day (knock wood), there are no negative issues happening in the tent. No NEW negative issues. Last night I put Gorilla Glue into LST and thinned out excess leaves. Critical Purple got similar treatment. In her case, I tightend existing tie-downs and thinned out the center and any leaves pointing inward. As you can see in the lower left, Mystery Plant is drinking from Blumats, while living in a Rain Science Bag. Extra Note: Look at the picture with the yellow circles. Why do so many Calyx not develop? Was it from early stunting? Day 55 - All Quiet on the Western Front These photos don't show the additional pruning and training that both Critical Purple and Gorilla Glue received today. I introduced the plants to Tribus last night. Like any Plant Pusher, I'll get em' hooked on Tribus and leave them with the smell of Photosynthesis Plus. ;)
