After a 2-year absence, decided to resume my favorite hobby! Starting back in with a strain I've been waiting to try - Buddha Seeds Kraken. Not planning on changing anything up, going to eventually get them into 3-gallon fabric pots; use Fox Farm nutes; and manifolding both my girls. Why mess with success? Looking forward to sharing this grow with you. Release the KRAKEN!
Happy New (grow) Year! Been an interesting week - even with the same genetics, each of these girls is growing quite differently. K-1 had some stretching issues, and it took 2 extra days for the seed shell to finally detach. K-2, on the other hand, is staying nice and squat, and already had 1st pair of "real" leaves by the time I transplanted them both today (1.2.23). They went from Jiffy Pot into Solo cups filled with Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil. K-2 was a bit more challenging to get free of the Jiffy Pot fabric, as she had a tap root of over an inch. But persistence (and a sharp pair of tiny scissors) brought about a successful transplant. Keeping the TS-1000 light at 25% 12" for a couple more days, just to give them a chance to stabilize before increasing light to 50% and starting a diet of 1/4 FF week 1 nutes.
Great week for my ladies! After being transplanted into Solo cups, they were watered with filtered water, pH adjusted to 5.8 (runoff was right around 5.4). Took the Mars Hydro TS1000 to 50%, let them adjust to that (seemed to like it!). 1.6.23 was first nutes - Fox Farms Big Bloom and Boomerang 50% recommended strength. Both girls are at 2-1/2" and are looking very healthy and happy :)
Another productive week, both girls adjusted well to increased light intensity. Temperature in tent is a little high, which is a bit worrisome. Have not seen increase in water needs though. K1 is at 3-1/2", K2 a little taller at 3-3/4".
After great growth this week, it was time to transplant the Kraken girls to their final homes - 2-gallon fabric pots by Opulant Systems. At transplant, I increased the Mars Hydro TS-1000 to 75% strength. Initial watering at transplant was Fox Farms week 2 full strength with 1/8-tsp cal-mag added. Brought pH up to 6.5 for the week. Going to give the girls a week or so to adjust to new environs, then start the manifolds.
Well, the girls made it to Manifold cutting #1. Looking really healthy, it's always a bit difficult to do this, even when you know it really works out in the end. Both girls were at 7-1/2" pre- and back to about 5-1/2" post-manifold. During the next week, I'll switch to Fox Farms week 5 formula, and will also start light foliar feeding 2x week. Sorry about limited photos on K-2 - I was in the groove and forgot to take pre-manifolding pictures, lol.
When I planted soaked seeds in Fox Farm ocean, my seeds did not germinate. Growers said soil was too hot. For my current plants, I mixed neutral seed mix into the top 2-3 inches of ocean soil. My ladies are now in week 5 😄 yay.
@Natrona, I agree, it can run a bit hot. I don't put them in "real" soil right from germination - My girls start out in peat discs until they have a tap root of around 1", then into Solo cups. I added extra perlite to my Fox Farms soil when I transplanted into the Solo cups, and then again on the last transplant into 2-gal fabric pots. Hope this helps! Happy growing!
