I wanted to do a journal from germination to harvest and this just happened to be a germinating seed so we’re doing Girls Scout Cookies from Humboldt. I’ve smoked this strain once back in 2014, funny enough in Humboldt. If its close to then I’ll be happy.
Recieved 3 pack of fem seeds as a freebie with an order. Soaked the seed for 24 hours. Planted into half gallon pot filled with a soil mix. Germination three days later on 1/1/23.
Not too much to add here in the first week of development. For space reasons I moved it back into in the propagation tent currently housing flowering males so she’s under a full 24 hours of light at a higher heat/humidity than the grow room.
Weekly Update:
She’s still a baby but coming along nicely and we have our first five bladed leaves.
No nutes yet, and I bottomed watered her five days ago so the soil is still plenty (probably too) moist.
For space reasons I moved her out of the germ tent and into the veg room so she went from 24/0 under 100W LED to 20/4 under HPS set at 600W. I placed her on the edge of the grow area in the shade of another plant to help ease her into the intensity and it has come along nicely and I’ve moved her more into the light each day.
I expect itll be another relatively slow week and then once we hit 5 nodes I’ll top and beginning training.
The first few weeks after germination can be pretty boring so I’m happy to start week 3 of veg growth.
We topped her on 1/23, 22 days after germination. Still no nutes in the half gallon starter pot. I’ll transplant it into a 3 gallon final pot once it puts on some vegetative growth after the top.
I’m still not sure what the plan for her is. It was a freebie seed I wasn’t intending to grow and the rooms are already crowded with 17 other plants so I’ll probably top this once more and start to flower after about 6 weeks of veg.
Her roots we happy to move into the 3 gallon pot and she put on a few inches this week after last week’s topping and transplanting: probably a little too tall too quickly for the full flower tent and full-ish veg room so we’re starting LST on day 28.
I’m still not sure what to do with this freebie given the space constraints. Right now I’m aiming to take a cut week 7ish and then flower before she gets too large.
LST going hard on the freebie bean this week. In terms of total vertical space she put on less than an inch but with the training she has added quite a bit to her lower branches.
Only smell at this point has been mild vegetative odor that’s unnoticeable with other plants in flower. We on track for two more weeks of veg; then taking a cutting before flower.
Quick update this week: slow week, continuing LST. Some nice vegetative leaves coming on and the lower branches are starting to catch up. I was going to take a cutting before flowering but there are other plants I want to take the space so I’ll let it veg another week or two and then flip to flower.
This plant has been mostly a side project and as such has been neglected some. Veg growth was a bit out of control horizontally for what I wanted so we topped her way back this week. I’ll veg probably one more week to get a better bush structure then flip it into flower to finish it up and move it out of the way.
It’s been a journey with this often-neglected plant and this was its final week of veg. I was sending some other plants to flower and decided it was her time since I really want her space for something else.
Freebie seed plant started 12/12 on 2/28. Hope to have some preflowers for you all with the next update!
Last veg post: finished a 7 plant harvest last week so the drying tent is now the veg tent/nursery and all the plants in the veg room went to 12/12 late last week to start the big spring harvest.
This freebie is normally smaller than I would flower but I want it out of the way of the next grow. I’m excited to get some flower eventually off of this and if I like it I have five more freebies I can plant.
She’s showing some bud sites with this update!
This poor girl got moved to the back burner weeks ago in favor of other plants and it shows that it’s not the greatest plant I’ve ever grown. After her heavy topping there’s not much plant to show for the 9 weeks of veg but at this point I’m just happy to move her though and have reclaim the floor space.
So far it’s taken everything I can throw at it and more and has hit flowering without signs of stress. Until now I was using unfed recycled soil for the grow but since she’s starting flower we gave her some liquid fish and recharge to give her a boost through stretch.
She’s coming along nicely with week 3 of flower. We didn’t really have too much stretch so far and that’s continued this week, and I suspect will stay the same the rest of the way. Some nice bud sites and she’s started putting on some oil. We could probably be giving them some more light in the room so we’re adding a second 600W lamp to the room Saturday.
She’s gone pretty well the whole grow but I did pick off four pollen sacks off of her this week. I know it’s not the genetics fault: I accidentally left the veg door open a couple weekends ago when I was out of town and the light leak made everyone hermie. I think we’re mostly past the balls and bananas as I’ve been finding fewer everyday and just one today on a Mamiko Cheese Cookies.
We added a second light to the grow room this week for a total of 1200W. All her trichs are still clear so we’re still feeding.
All in all for a mostly-ignored freebie she’s been doing well. Her leaves look green and lush and she’s been putting on the sparkle this last week.
I’ve got five other cookies freebies and this one has got me excited to grow the others next fall, after my current runs, with more care.
I was busy for this week of flower and didn’t get any great pictures or a chance to update but she passed the week doing well. She should be on cruise control until the finish.
