Well, the first grow of 2023 began Jan 5 with two 34 Street Seed Co. Pineapple Express seeds (just covering my bets, only need 1). This time around I'm going to try for a 1lb single plant grow.
Last winter's Bubba Kush grow produced a half lb yield in a 5gal pot with a 200W light. This time it's a 15gal pot (12gal of Promix), a 400W light, and great mix of Advanced Nutrients ... here we go 😁
Jan. 9 Both seeds germinated on Day 4. Plan to keep both going, one outside the tent which I will try to hold back from flower for the 2023 Outdoor Grow.
Looking good. The large pot dried considerably but still has plenty of moisture. Made a spur of the moment decision to transplant into the final pot and add a little taste of water. So far it looks like it was a good choice.
Day 14: Did the first watering but only 1 gallon around the edges of the pot. Little early for first nutes but dose was low, we'll see how it goes but it looks great now. 😁
End of week 3, the first full watering completed, 14L run through, and the first 2 sets of leaves removed. The plant doubled in size this week and hit node 6 giving me 12 branches to work with. So, tomorrow it gets topped. 😁
Overall the PExpress looks good and has doubled in height in the last week to 8 inches. Defoliated a few key lower and upper leaves to make room for the branches coming through. Should only be a few more days before tie downs are needed. I moved the light up to 36 inches away, still am being careful to manage the height and number of branches in the small space. Still not sure if the 400W will prove to be too much but for now we'll go another week.
I watered with quarter dose Advanced Nutrients the last two weeks and now am worried its to much as I'm seeing some weird leaf afflictions. So I watered with plain water today pushing 2 gallons through the pot. Shouldn't be long before I see the affect. Here's hoping II've read it right 😁
At the begging of week 5 I defoliated and tied down the 12 branches. On the last day of week 5 there was enough growth to defoliate and tie down the next stage. Water only again this week as I'm still waiting to see new foliage come in perfect. All goes well and flowering can begin in the next 7 to 10 days. 😁
Watered with just a taste of Advanced Nutrients. I'm amazed how little this plant has needed in fertilizer, virtually nothing so far. But the leaves and stems look healthy and maybe a little too dark green still. I think I'm going to stay real light on the nutes until flower is established, we'll see 😁
The Pineapple Express grew another 4 inches this week to 12 inches, Given the training it should be easy to keep the plant under 16in before flowering. I can easily count a potential 100+ bud heads at this point. Now I just gotta keep from screwing up. Everything is a guess with this plant as its a new strain for me and I've also doubled the light and soil compared to past grows.
And finally, the smell is an intense cannabis smell now, and flowering hasn't even started! 😁
It's Feb 27, 2023 and the last day of veg. Light schedule is now 11/13. Defoliated twice more this week, tied down again to hold it below 16in, and had to water on day 5. Used a little of 5 different Advanced Nutrients in prep for flower. Hope I got it right! Cant wait to see these flowers 😁
Seven days since light cycle change and only the earliest signs of flower. It's filled in since the last defoliation and hit the 16 inch mark with a reasonably even canopy. Needed water again after only 5 days. Kept the Advanced Nutrients to 450 ppm but cut out the Cal Mag. The plant is looking good enough now I think I'll take the nutes up to 650 ppm on the next water. I've been running 15 litres through each water and its giving a runoff of 800 pm and 5.5 ph. It's all still looking good 😁
What a week, I came to the conclusion that the 400W light was too much for the flowering stage and that the nutrient level was too low given the aggressive grow back and flower start up. Past diaries confirmed I was low for this point in the grow so I tripled the 3 Advanced Nutrients, cut out the Cal Mag and doubled the Big Bud. 15L went into the watering and 2L drained through. This is the point that I either timed it right or burned em, we'll see 😁 As well the flowers are now under a 200W light and are responding nicely with less purple/red stems,
Hard to believe the number of times I've defoliated this plant and now under the 200W light its roaring back one more time. Letting it dry out another day just to be sure its all copacetic before increasing the Nutes one last time. 😁
Defoliated one last time, making sure all the flowers are seeing the light. Trichomes are coming in nicely and visible to the naked eye now. Cranked up the standard 3 Advanced Nutrients to 4 tsps per gal and stopped the Big Bud to round out the PPM to 1050. I'm going to try and keep everything green and thriving as long as possible to get as much weight as possible, no time for the plant to start dying yet.
Looking Good and Smelling Good 😁
Watered once early in the week with PPM at 1050 and the plant is a perfect green with a gorgeous sweet smell. Just need these flowers to keep growing ...😁
The flowers are starting to fill in and are still plenty green. At this rate I'm hoping to get 6 to 8 more weeks and a tripling in size/density. She lasted 8 days without water this last cycle and then just sucked up 5gal at 1050 ppm. Combined with the 19C nights the trichomes are starting to come in heavy. At this stage they're far more greasy than sticky and the smell is intoxicating. 😁
The flowers are really starting to look pretty now. The greasiness has morphed to sticky and the smell remains intense, unnameable citrus. Its been hot outside and that's brought the tent temp up to 27C. Everything is looking the perfect shade of green. Older Calyx are fattening and showing as new keep adding to the flowers. I watered with another 2gal at 1050ppm. It appears to be a sweet spot so I'll keep this train going as long as possible. 😁
Good thing this one is in the tent because the smell is beyond intense. Dropped the nutes this week just a touch to 1000 ppm as the plant seems to be right on the limit., showing the slightest tip burn on a few flowers. Beyond that it 's still a glorious green with new calyx adding to the colas. Trichomes remain clear so I'm still hoping for anther 4 weeks. 😁
I'm worried the colour change is due to excess nutes and poured 2 gal of plain water into the pot after 8 days of drying. The smell remains intense and on closer inspection I'm not sure the colour isn't simply age.. The trichomes remain clear and the flowers are fattening still without bolting so all I can do is wait and see. Still hoping for 3 or 4 more weeks. Looks like its close to a half lb now, not sure if I can expect much more but we'll see 😁
Day 70 of flower and they're still bulking up. The colours are beautiful. There's purple from the cold but also every colour of autumn on each leaf. The smell is heavy, skunky cannabis very similar to the Bubba Kush but when a flower is touched it's pure lemon Lifesaver. Trichomes are still clear, hoping for another week or 2. 😁
Given the colour of these flowers I can only imagine what the outdoor version of this will look like in the fall. The flowers are dense and still fattening, we'll see how long this goes. 😁
Well, it's time. Twelve weeks of flower and there's finally the occasional amber trichome. Time to bring er down and see if the awesome colour and smell hold through drying. 😁
Two and a half pounds wet weight is a good sign. Cant wait to see the dry weight to find out if the bigger pot made a difference in yield. Regardless it made the grow easier due to less watering. Drying at 19C and 55 RH. High expectations for this one. 😁
@Grisly, I'm growing the same strain and noticed the same thing was wondering if was just mine or normal for this strain but must just be the norm. Heavy defoliation right before flower, than big defoliation again after stretch. They didn't even skip a beat, seems like a really hearty strain. And have been plucking a few leaves here and there to keep bud sites open.
@Grow_for_Happiness, hard to believe but just completed another badly needed defoliation and tie down before the first flowers show. Hoping I didn't overdue it but we'll see soon enough 😁
@Grow_for_Happiness, Thanks 😁 I'm still cautious about the final weight as this grow went 2 weeks shorter in Veg than last year's half pound Bubba Kush grow. Regardless, the smell and stickiness of this Pineapple Express have already made it a winner for me👍😁
Very nice work Growmie 🇨🇦👊❤️💨 She’s a beauty! ❤️ the 34 street genetics!I’ve grown several already, and have a pink Kush I’m vegging out to fill my 2x4 now ! Can’t wait to see the results!
@Jays_Not_Here_Man, thanks for sharing about the Pink Kush, that's likely going to be my next grow as its one of my favourite Smokes as well. 34 Street Seed Co genetics have been stellar. 😁
