The mother of this plant was so good I had to go for a third round. A carefully selected pair of M.A.C's from copy cat genetics were bred then back bred then hand selected again out of that bunch to bring me us this delightful treat. The M.A.C BX4 from beanhub, old Dankeyes cut has a grotesquely overpowering smell of gasoline and mint, she can be a fickle mistress during the vegetative stages but once you get into flower its off to the races and she'll take what ever you can throw at her. I took 32 cuts off the mother and the first 16 to root were kept the rest tossed..
was a success! Good root structure on transplant day, normally I would like to see them go a little long but i was pressed for time and they were transplanted that day anyways. I coated the up-pot holes with rooting hormone and mycorrhiza to assist in recovery time which pay'd off the plants didn't even flinch and were praying by the next morning..
Beautiful progression throughout the week.. I fluctuated the ph up and down over the feedings from 5.8 to 6.2. When I grow in cocco I always like to hover around 5.8 in the beginning to help establish roots, then as they develop and grow I increase the ph gradually the closer I get to flower.
Explosive week. The leaf variegation was passed on from its mother and shows through on a few of the cuts but not all, other than looking kind of cool, I haven't noticed any adverse side affects from it.
Prepping for the final weeks before flipping into flower, added the trellis net and spent a great deal of time bending the plants down without damaging them to spread the canopy out a bit
Great week! Didn't have much to do but feed and water, spent a bit of time messing around with camera angles , installed a second net and the new Beanhub vinyl! so excited to have these..
Final preparations for flower, I let them go to long in the tent and I wont get the result I want so when I switch to flower I'll move all the plants over to the big room to finish off.
Moved everything over to the big room, installed 2 trellis nets to assist the smaller pots from falling over as the flowers develop. I set the lights on a lower umol setting to let the plants adjust to the new light, then gradually increased as they got used to it and flower progressed.
Pretty boring week its almost like the plants stall at this stage and its always super boring waiting for them to take off. Plants adjusted well to the bigger room and new lights.. umol jacked up to 800
Here comes the stank! starting to smell like gas already, I have this room venting out an old water heater stack out the roof of my building with no can on it and depending on which way the winds blowing that day I can smell this room from a block away. It's a beautiful thing.
Stacking up nicely now this is definitely one of my most favorite parts of growing.. I've started micro dosing in these early stages of flower with my bloom boosters to help my end game stack up real nice and its been paying off. I've also been playing with when I cut off my nitrogen and I decided to go a little longer with it on this grow, the only difference I've noticed in doing this is the color of the plant at the end of the grow. Bud size and flavor seem unaffected for the most part, I've concluded nitrogen throughout flower isn't totally necessary but it does make the plants look more appealing to the eye. In the end I suppose it's really just up to the cultivar as to what they wish to do at this point in the grow.
The mint is sneaking its way in there now and the variegation of the leaf is starting to look real cool on some of the sugar leaves that are coming in.
Just fattening up now. Going full tilt on nutes and bloom boosters, still drifting the ph up and down but in a smaller range of 6.2-6.4 now, umol @ a steady 1000 and a small 5gal pail with yeast and sugar is supplementing a little extra co2
Cooler nights here in Canada combined with L.E.D lights allow for those cool purple colors you're seeing.. The plants directly under the hps remain green while the plants under then L.E.D's on the left and right side are taking on all kinds of purples.
Pushing these plants to the max for how much light they can take, starting to get bleaching on some of the tips of the of the M.A.C's directly under the L.E.D's. Don't plan on lifting them up any farther either, they can take it..
Gasoline and mint overwhelms my nostrils this evening as I hang the last of the16 plants to dry in my curing fridge .. My BX4 has yet to let me down I'll be messing with some more deadly combinations of this plant this year as well as adding a FEM line when and if it passes my testing. Happy growing you animals I hope you enjoyed this grow!
