Happy birthday to Enigma!
Welcome to my first ever contest entry diary.
Exciting!
Day 7: Welcome to the end of week 1 for Enigma! Not spectacular but doing ok.
Week 2 begins. Everything seems normal so far.
Day 11: Have produced higher quality images and a video.
Day 13: Growth accelerating.
Weekly Summary: Enigma is right where she should be, as yet showing no significant dwarfism.
Hello and welcome to week three for Enigma.
Day 15: She is a bit sad today. I dropped her yesterday she took quite a jolt, and I think I overwatered her, so I upended her and waited until some drips came out, and then stuck a straw down to the bottom of the pot and blew air into the medium. She became a little less droopy within an hour of that, I am keeping an eye on her. It is going to be really hard to manage feeding her without over-watering her. I have certainly set myself a real challenge with this pot.
Day 16: Enigma is hungry but over hydrated. The only thing I can think to try is making a special extra-strong nutes just for her.
Day 18: Starting to find the balance of moisture. This is not easy at all.
Day 19: Decent bit of growth today. Overall this lady is showing strong signs of being severely restricted by the pot size. No training at all intended, let's just see what happens.
Day 20.5: She's perked up quite a bit since the photo. My extra strong nute regime seems to be paying off. She is maintaining a narrow form I am starting to wonder if roots act a bit like a cats whiskers? A cat's whiskers grow to the width of the cat's widest part... and they use them to know if they will fit through something. In observing these various cannabis plants, I am beginning to notice a correlation between plant width and pot width. This is bolstered by the evidence of transplanted plants rapidly stretching in width when introduced to a much wider pot.
If my working theory has any basis in reality then an optimal pot would be short and fat rather than tall and narrow. I am probably going to test this theory with some clones.
A second note of interest pertains to the quick shockingly rapid growth of both Misty and Nesia. These plants are even way ahead of where Citronella was, and I have been consistently delighted with Her Majesty. Is it simply starting them in bigger pots from seed? That has some impact I'm sure. Nevertheless I feel not enough impact to explain the massive difference. I think it's the nutes. Time for an admission, I have been being very lazy with the fertigation. I mix up 10l of nutes based on the stated dosages for the eldest plant (Karen)....and then I feed all of the plants with this even the ones that are much younger. So both Misty and Nesia got nutes for a plant in week 4 from seed and each week they increased. Could it be that the key to organic nutes in coco is to massively over-nute? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Day 21: Weekly summary: some problems early this week but corrected and she's much happier today.
Welcome to week 4 For Enigma in this Seedsman Tiny & Rare pot contest.
After a bad start to week 3 she recovered well.
Today I have added an air hose into her pot. It's run by a 5v 1w usb pump, connected to a 5v 2w solar usb panel. Using this I have been able to test the effectiveness of the light at different angles and ranges. The pump runs at full power within 30cm of the light. From there it slows rapidly down to 70 where it stops completely. I need a better light.
Day 23: I have reconfigured the tent. I replaced the solar panel with a plug as I need the air to run when light is off too. My idea here is that if you can DWC with airstones, maybe if I blow air to her roots she can handle being in a saturated medium, thus allowing me to ensure she always has nutrition available. If it works as I hope, I may be able to have her exceed the size she might otherwise achieve in this pot.
I have refilled the pot with fertigate every time the bubbles stop. There is no way its evaporating this fast. She has now been totally saturated for at least the last 6 hours and no drooping.
Day 24: Been a bit lazy topping up her liquid but I'm confident the air pump is working as intended.
Day 25: Enigma is on day 2 of a little dry-out experiment.
Day 25.5 Enigma was wilting, so I fertigated her until the pot was full and then topped her up again twice.
Day 26: Drowned her. Whoops.
Day 27: Let her get too dry. Whoops. This is not easy.
Day 28: End of week 4. Enigma suffering. It's difficult to get a balance between sufficient nutes and moisture levels.
Hello! Week 4 is now complete so go take a look!
Day 29: Flowering has begun.
Day 30: I've been keeping Enigma moist.
Day 31: She's looking a bit happier.
Day 32: More and more pistils. I am not sure what to expect from her stretch but it has started. Two weeks or so usually and 2x or 3x height. I doubt she will do that but it'll sure be interesting to see what happens. To be honest she is already bigger than I expected her to get. Height is 25cm.
Day 33: Height 26cm Enigma is flowering away.
Day 35: Height 27cm.
Week Summary: Enigma has stretched out quite a bit this week. I expect more of that next week. She's super thirsty. She has gained 10cm this week, quite a difference. If she does the same sort of stretching next week she might end up being 40cm by the end of the week. Imagine that a 40cm plant in a pot that isn't 8cm tall.
Welcome to week 6.
Day 36: Took off a few fan leaves today and gave water only.
Day 37: Height 28cm
Day 39: Fertigated with an extra strong mix, I'm going to up the nutes now until I find her maximal tolerance, she is starving.
Day 40: Still starving. I'm keeping her constantly topped up with quite high strength nutes but it's not enough. I think 200ml may have been an overly generous estimation of her root space volume.
Day 41: I knew this would be a challenge but it is proving more difficult than I expected. I hope the effort is worth it! At least so far I have learned more about autoflower flowering triggers with this grow.
Day 42: in trying to get enough food in to her I have nute shocked. Need to somehow flush and hope for the best. I may have dealt her a fatal blow.
Alright so to end up this week I have flushed the ever loving crap out of this lady. I've burned her with too much nutes, I didn't think it was possible but I went really over the top. So I have used a combination of a straw and 2l of PH corrected water and a lot of time and patience to repeatedly saturate and then upend and allow to drip out (with the aid of blowing bubbles in there with the straw). Eventually the run off stopped being dark brown. Then much later it became clear. I do not know if I can save this plant now I have really hurt her she looks in BAAAAD shape. Let us see what happens over the next week.
I have adjusted the timer such that the main tent is now getting 20/4 upped from 18/6. After monitoring DLI at 18/6 for a week I am unhappy with the overall level but because of the varying heights of the plants I am limited in what I can do in adjusting the light height. Some areas were only getting 20 DLI. So I have rearranged to have the taller plants on the edges and the lowest in the middle and doing it this way all plants are getting between 35 and 50 DLI at 20/4 - although one or two cola tips here and there are getting 55. Will monitor for a week.
Hello and welcome to week 7 for Enigma. Last week is now up to date.
She was poisoned a few days ago and I'm trying to save her. Took off dead leaves today and fertigated with normal strength. Not super strength.
Day 46: I've stabilised her but she's in rough shape.
Day 48: Long video lots of detail.
Day 49: A hard hard week. Almost killed her. Unsure where she goes from here but at least she doesnt take up any space!
Hello and welcome to week 8. Enigma is on day 53 now and has partially recovered from the burn. Hopefully she will steady up as she goes. I thinn 3 or 4 weeks is what we can expect. Does she have to be harvested before the competition ends?
Day 55: Not much change.
Day 56: End of week. Roll on week 9!
Hey!! Welcome to week 9! Enigma is maturing rapidly. I do know if I must harvest her before the competition ends or not? If so she has maximum 3 weeks left.
Day 58: Nothing to update.
Day 59: She smells peppery.
@UnorthadoxDude, you know the substrate is the magic. only coco is good but you have too feed very balanced, supersoil you have to feed a little when babygirl need
@UnorthadoxDude,It is a beautiful question certainly helps you a perfectly composed soil, they call it supersoil is a mixture of gentle and stuff humus that enriches the classic soils, the quality of the earth if there is little space I think it is fundamental
@MedicineMaker, oh right! Yeah thank you! Hah I had quite a few options and I almost did a trio of little jugs... but in the end I thought, no this is meant to be a "rarest" and "tiniest". This pot is a little over 100 years old, genuinely rare, and really fkin smol.
I love the pot!
And I love the way this one has grown for you!
Its artistic, it’s got a really attractive composition, so cool.
I hope she produces a hefty top bud for you.
I love your watching your diaries; you always have some happy, healthy plants and some really cool entries to view ✨
@UnorthadoxDude,
I think it has a great chance in the competition!
Good luck to you in that, the pot is gorgeous, so is the plant; even with the problems you may have had with it.
I wish you the best of luck in the competition, may you win first place 🥇
@Themythicalchristine, Aww what a lovely comment, thank you so much! I think this has a good chance in the competition just because of the rarity of the pot. She has had many problems but certainly has been an interesting experiment and a difficult challenge. I do not think she will yield more than a gram or two honestly, but it's a fun thing to do!
@UnorthadoxDude, well, tent is 3x3 and I have 3 autos, og kush, gorilla Glue & purple Chill. I think ? these grow big?. I bought a small fabric pot and a friend gave me a nice ceramic for Christmas.
