First girl has broken ground, no sign of her sister yet. 30/1/23: Not starting veg week until both have popped. 31/1 little seedling stretched a bit so raised up approx 50cm. It is now 96 hours since planting and seed 2 has still not popped. 1/2/23 seed 2 has disappointingly failed. Popped with no head. Therefore this grow will include only one plant if it survives. I have decided, contrary to all my full diaries so far, that I am not going to start week 1 of veg until the plant has left the seedling stage. I.E. When the first full leaves grow. Until then all the daily updates will go in here. Day 6: I have reconfigured the tent. Today I planted up three new 40l pots one of which is for this little girl, who I've named Poppy.

Hello growing buddies! It is time to name this baby Purple OG Punch Auto from Super Sativa Club. This is something I do when I feel the most vulnerable moment has passed. That feeling has come upon me today. So what shall I name her?

At the moment I am leaning towards "Poppy" but I am open to suggestions! The only "rule" is first letter must begin with same as strain name (auto always a suffix) so P in this case.

Hello! Welcome to the first week of vegetation for little Poppy. She broke ground seven days ago. Today her roots breached her starter pot and her first three fingered leaves are out. I have transplanted her into her final pot. 32l of inoculated and fertigated coco and perlite 70/30. Day 2: Poppy has just realised she has more space to grow into. She will be accelerating her root growth now, but she won't accelerate veg growth for another week yet. Incidentally look at this plant in 24h. I am declaring this second shock-less transplant of an autoflowering cannabis plant. After seeing her root system, I am very confident in this plant, I think she is going to even outpace Nesia and Misty. Day 3: Fertigated 1l Day 4: Poppy really starting to grow now. It doesn't seem that way from the close up, but the wide shot shows how much she's increased in size if not node development. Day 5: Alright I think she's established enough roots to start increasing veg growth rate. She's really made a big leap in the last 24h. Day 6: Fertigated 1l Day 7: End of week one. This girl is going to explode in the next week or two I feel.

Hello welcome to week two for Poppy! Expect big things this week! Day 8: Poppy is really starting to grow in earnest now. This will be a big week. For comparison purposes this is day 15 since breaking ground. See the photo of other grows on day 15 for progress comparison. As you can see Poppy is even ahead of Nesia and Misty. Day 9: Another big 24 hours of growth. Poppy is a beast. Fertigated 1l. Height 13cm Day 10: Height 16cm. 3cm between day 9 and 10. W. T. F. That's over 20% in 1 day. I have looked and am following loads of other POGPA diaries. Everyone is saying they're fast and big. I do not know why I am surprised. She is also 25cm across. 😳 Pretty Poppy's popping off, Piggy Poppy's slopping lots. Pity Poppy's proper loft; Portends Poppy's topper chop. Petty Poppy's stopper shock? Poppys poppy's, hoping not. Day 10.5: Alright node 4 is out and 5 on the way so I've done the first training. Her potential height concerns me greatly. I have removed the first, second, and fourth node leaves. I have twisted the third node leaves to face up and performed the most severe LST possible, wherein I reduced Poppy from 16cm to 5cm in height. Now she is Poppy the pancake. Day 11: Some response to LST but not huge. Fertigated 2l. Day 12: She's starting to figure out what to do after the LST. Next week will be huge. Day 13: Little bit more LST. Fertigated 3l. Day 14: Good week for Poppy. The progress is a bit hidden by defoliation and LST but she's responding faster now. End of week summary: She has taken longer to respond to LST but I did it later with her. I am not concerned this strain gets big so I'm doing the right thing for my space.

Hello welcome to week 3. Poppy is suffering a bit from overly harsh LST but still growing. I broke a node today and it's really awkward to fix. I am not sure the node will survive. Day 17: The node did not survive. Whoops. Oh well more space for growth I guess. Day 18: Poppy has recovered from the LST now and is vegging fast. Fertigated 2l Day 19: Slightly adjusted LST. Poppy is really stretching out now. I have adjusted the timer such that the main tent is now getting 20/4 upped from 18/6. After monitoring DLI at 18/6 for a week I am unhappy with the overall level but because of the varying heights of the plants I am limited in what I can do in adjusting the light height. Some areas were only getting 20 DLI. So I have rearranged to have the taller plants on the edges and the lowest in the middle and doing it this way all plants are getting between 35 and 50 DLI at 20/4 - although one or two cola tips here and there are getting 55. Will monitor for a week. Day 20: Not taken photos yet, about to fertigate. I have noticed she is looking a little darker in the tips and has a vague blue sheen to her in places. I am going to reduce her nutrition a little bit. Day 20.5: Performed LST and took off three big leaves. Poppy is a pancake again. Fertigated 4l

Hello and thanks for joining Poppy for the start of week 4! Have a look at week 3 which is now complete with daily updates. We start the week with some further LST, tying down the branches as they grow vertically. Most of them have reached the pot edge now. She grows quick. See you tomorrow for day 23. Day 24: Fertigated 2l. Day 25: Poppy drinking the least of all plants in the series. So far. Shes piling on veg though. Day 26: Veg growth continues! Day 27: Sorry for lazy photos. Day 28: Fertigated 5l. End of week summary: Poppy is looking good. I'm learning that sativa dominant strains don't respond as well to LST. She is doing okay though I think she's going to veg for another week then start stretching.

Hello and welcome to week 5! If you are here from twitter please say hello in the comments- I am also @UnorthadoxDude over there. Week 4 is now complete so please do catch up! Day 29: Poppy is putting on some height now I have eased off with the LST. I may do more but for now she is preflowering and I think I stunted Misty a bit with to early hard LST and defoliation, and I think I've done the same with Poppy. So let's give her a rest. Day 31: Poppy recovering and growing well. Day 32: Height 37cm. Fertigated 5l. Day 33: Nothing to report Day 34: Nothing to report Day 35: Fertigated 5l

Hello growmies. Welcome to week 9. Sorry for no updates last 3 weeks I have moved house. Poppy has been battered and broken while moving. Breaking tallest 4 colas completely off. She was over 1m but now 80cm. She was subjected to two 9 Day droughts in 3 weeks. Still she grows! Daily updates again from next week!

Hello! I am back! Welcome to day 76, almost the end of week seven for Poppy the Purple OG Punch. I am not going to be able to compete in the contest as she is not yet ready so my first two competition entries end in total failure. Poppy has suffered multiple snapped colas in the move, and a lack of training, but she is doing okay, buds are fattening nicely. Height 82cm, she was fertigated 10l about 4 days ago, and 7.5l today.

Day 79: Fertigated 10l Day 81: Hello growmies and welcome to week 12 for Poppy, the Purple OG Punch Auto from Super Sativa Seed Club. I have unfortunately failed in the competition due to it ending while I was moving house. 0 for 2 is not a good record, but then I am a newbie not an award winning grower so perhaps I should temper my expectations somewhat. Anyway, Poppy has stopped stretching and is swelling those tasty looking buds. No sign of any purple yet but I have my fingers crossed that I will wake up one day and she will be blue! Hah. I can't move the plants out of the tent now due to size and bud weight. So will do my best to make good in-tent photos.

Day 85: Week 13 Day 1: Hey growmies, sorry I haven't updated for a few days, things are quite hectic with some of my other projects at the moment! Poppy is motoring along, developing some of the most chunky and solid feeling buds I have grown yet. She is nowhere near at the moment, only just showing some hints of purple in the buds. Trichs are mostly clear and some milky at the moment, she hasn't started piling on any significant frost yet, but my god those buds are beefy.

Hello growmies and welcome to week 14 for Poppy - this quite magnificent Purple OG Punch Auto from Super Sativa Club. As you know (if you have been following) this was a sponsored diary, the seeds being given to enter a photography contest. Unfortunately the contest ended before I got done, but I am looking forward to my "booby prize" because would you just take a look at the buds on this beast of a plant? She is really struggling to hold them up, I have had to add elastic to 3 colas which had dropped horizontal. The changes are rapidly happening this week, pistils darkening, frost appearing. I am increasingly excited for this girl to finish, but so far there is no purple other than a bit on the buds themselves. Day 93: Fertigated 10l Day 96: Fertigated 7l Day 97: Added photos

Hello growmies, sorry for lack of update in the recent weeks I have had my focus elsewhere. Poppy was harvested on day 114 about 4 or 5 days ago. Around day 105 she got botrytis, 3 largest colas affected which I cut off and have processed separately as photo'd. This happened due to neglect and insufficient airflow. Harvest will be posted when she's dry in a few days.

Well these buds have not yet cured so I will update the smoke report when they have cured properly, though the first 3 colas I took off (due to bud rot) have now started to cure nicely and are a very tasty smoke. Don't worry I am not smoking rot, I discarded the buds that were affected and cut off the whole cola whereby the lower buds were not affected. Anyway I am getting a very fruity smell and flavour - like berries of the forest or something, with an earthy undertone and a lingering sweetness that feels almost herbal. ***Smoke Report Update 19/6/23*** WOW! Just wow! This bud has really transformed during the cure and is now really special. Complex flavours and smooth smooth smokes, leaves an almost sherbet aftertaste. It is currently my favourite that I have grown myself, it is even nicer than my Super Lemon Haze. I will certainly grow this again.

Poppy grew the chunkiest looking buds I have seen on a plant I've grown, but I had to cut her earlier than I wanted due to botrytis, therefore they are not as dense as I would have hoped, but neither are their airy. The three biggest colas got bud rot - incidentally the three I snapped clean off in transport. I wish I had tended those wounds properly now (or not caused them at all). Still, the overall result of well over 4.5oz is really something I am happy with all things considered. If I had the space to let this plant grow and it had not been subjected to the problems during house move I think she would have yielded over 10oz easily. Brilliant strain and I have 2 seeds left for a future grow! Woohoo!

@MedicineMaker, one day I will be brave enough to try and photograph the roots mid-transplant. However with coco's wonderful feature of not clumping together, I have to be extremely careful when transplanting, and the younger the plant the more tricky it is because there are fewer and smaller, weaker roots to bind the medium together. It is why the timing of these transplants is absolutely critical. I don't have a set time, I check the plants every day and the transplant moment is always obvious. So Poppy's roots are approx 8cm long, to one side a branch root has hit the side of the pot and grown straight down, it has every 2mm or so and all the way down, branching roots that reach out around the pot edge up to 5cm. This is the root structure that being in a solid pot causes - if you can transplant to a large pot after this root structure has started to form, but before the roots become tangled or constricted - the plant will have many many more options to grow branching roots from, and will end up with a bigger, stronger, better organise root system. The timing is the key, and being extremely careful. It was actually Karen in week 4 that gave me the confidence to try another transplant strategy with an auto, I know a shockless transplant can be done, because I've already done it. :) So we will see. I planted her at the edge of the big pot, with the root structure I just described facing the interior so they have the entire massive pot to fill. Time will tell but I am very confident in this one. The transplant was perfectly timed and perfectly executed.

@MedicineMaker, yet she's doing okay. Of all the sisters I've grown so far she has the most impressive root system at 7 days that I've seen. Although with Nesia and Misty they started in final pots so unsure about those 2.

@NCbud, I think it appropriate at this juncture to mention that these were supplied free by Super Sativa Seed Club as part of my entry into their photo contest for this strain. I did not grow mine quick enough and missed out on that (moving house mid grow fked me up) but I am nevertheless excited to see her develop. These are some seriously dense buds like whoa.

Good luck on the cure! I am about to harvest as well and switch the room to a cure environment. A both important and difficult part coming up.
UnorthadoxDude
UnorthadoxDudecommented2 years ago
@NegotiatedBubble, drying wise I was able to keep RH around 50 but temp I couldn't keep down. It ranged from 17 to 24 degrees c. To combat this and prevent a quick dry ruining my crop, I usually dry about 80-90% then dry trim/process/sort and cure in sealed glass jars with Boveda packs.

@MedicineMaker, I think so too. I saved one of the colas I snapped and the buds are barely formed... yet still some how rock solid and beautifully flavoured. I think each of the 4 pots left in the main tent will yield more than Karen. Poppy is looking like 150-200g but those buds are dense AF so maybe more.

@@resimax, I think she would be looking a lot better if I hadn't snapped her three largest colas clean off, or starved/droughted her for 9n days in a row, twice in 3 weeks, or left her in a tent with no lights on for 2 days, and if I had been able to continue regular training (time and space). Still she is causing me problems with my light height already, but the Knowles Sisters are the worst for that, they are going CRAZY and they will get much bigger.
