This is my third grow in a tent. My first one was a single Tangerine Dream Auto that yielded 190g. The second grow was an LSD auto that yielded 160g. This time around I will be growing two Critical Purple autos at the same time. To start this grow I soaked the seeds for 18hrs in dechlorinated water then transferred them to paper towels. Temperatures were kept a near constant 24C and the seeds popped in less than a day. Seeds went into a 4" plastic seedling pot with a vegetative LED on it 20hrs a day. This picture was taken less than a week after showing herself above the soil.

Sorry for the lack of the last couple weeks. I didn't think of starting a diary until recently. Up to this point the two plants were in a standard 4: plastic seedling pot under a lower intensity LED light. This was the first week in 7 gl fabric pot.s under the Phlizon lights. Began LST on the two plants once the onset of branching was visible. Growth is vigorous and they aren't slowing down at all with the LST.

Rapid vegetation growth and still not slowing down with any LST. I accidentally broke the top off one of the plants so like it or not, I guess I'm also using HST as part of this grow. Frustrated with myself on being clumsy and hope the plant recovers from my mistake. Some light pruning above flower sites. Night time temperatures aren't as high as I would like and working on options to increase evening temps.

Flowering started this week. Top dressed with 100ml of Gaia Green 4-4-4 and, amount of 2-8-4, diatonomous earth. Daily LST and defoliation. Apparently I didn't learn my lesson and broke the top off the other plant. First plant has recovered and is filling out well. Nothing seems to stop these plants. Added a small heater to the grow tent but still having troubles keeping the temperatures near 20C. Growth doesn't seem to be impacted and likely thanks to the Ruderalis genetics. Horray for autos!

On cruise control. Daily LST, defoliation and watering. The accidental topping of the plants has led to bushy but still healthy plants.

Daily pruning and LST to expose flower sites. Some culling of lower branches. Adjusted nighttime heater to a higher setting to raise night temperatures. One plant is maturing faster than the other. On one plant buds are forming while vertical growth slowing while other plant is still stretching with no thickening of the flower sites.

Four days without pruning led to larger pruning session. Buds are thickening on faster plant and tricomes developing along with the smell of the plant which does have a strong lemon sugary scent. They both are very vigorous growers but do have different phenotypes. The plant that I snapped early on has its buds thickening and likely will form a carpet. Not sure how they will respond to the lack of air flow but I have been working on keeping the understory clear and the fans running. The second plant is showing signs of the bud sites filling out but is easily a couple weeks behind the other plant. I was planning on drying both in the same tent so not sure what will happen come harvest time. Its too cold in the garage for an open air dry. Might let one go a little longer and the other earlier.

Topdressed with Gaia Green 2-8-4 at 100ml / plant and added same ratio of Gaia Green 4-4-4 along with a small amount of potting soil & diatonomous earth. Slower plant is filling out nicely and buds are still stretching and showing early tricomes. Faster plant is developing lots of tricomes and buds are still thickening but showing no further vertical growth. Some minor LST and pruning to remove leaves facing other bud sites. Had to move lights up as tops of buds and some new leaves were showing minor bleaching.

What is the optimal defoliation program when buds are close together? What is the rationale behind it?

i dont do usually defoliation, because they are useful for many reasons for the plant, but if you want to do to improve airflow, then take carefully only that leaves what prevent airflow around the biggest colas.

I never, ever defoliate. Less leaves = less energy being made = less growth potential. Besides, if your plant would not need those leaves, it would not grow them in the first place. The rationale?...........because humans think they know better than a plant that is at the pinnacle of its evolution.

Hola !!!!

This week has been primarily watering and defoliation. Both plants are maturing well with buds thickening and developing tricomes. Tricomes on the advanced plant are mostly opaque with a few turning amber. The slower plant's tricomes are still all clear. Smell is very fruity with lots of lemon in the air. Until recently all smells were scrubbed with the carbon filters but this week there is a small hint of something happening in the garage. Nothing unusual but just a sign that both plants are developing well. Some older fan leaves showed minor rust coloured edges. No blotchy patterns on any leaves, old or new. Other growers have reported that this discoloration seems to happen with this variety so not concerned in the least.

Other than the swelling and ripening of the buds there hasn't been much change this week. Both plants are maturing nicely and still are weeks apart from each other. The faster plant is slowly having the trichomes turn opaque and amber. At this point the faster plant has a very small percentage of amber trichomes. The slower plant is experiencing a rapid thickening of the buds and smell is now getting stronger. Smell is still quite sweet and lemony but with both plants in the final stage a slight smell is still able to sneak through the filters. Maintenance this week is to defoliate the leaves to keep the light shining on as many of the buds as possible. Some minor tweaking of position but only on the ends as the sides are already bumping up against the other plant. Decided on adding half dose of nutrients. 50ml of Gaia Green 2-8-4 and same amount of their 4-4-4 blend as a topdress. Likely last feed for the faster plant. Will certainly need another feed on the slower one. A cold snap is messing with night time temps this week and I'll see if the purple genetics will kick in with the cooler nights. Until the cold passes I'll run the lights 24hrs to keep them warm.

It was fairly smooth sailing until this week. The slower plant took offence to the feeding and showed signs of nutrient burn. I immediately cut off the damaged leaves, scrapped off the upper layer of soil hoping to physically remove any top dressed nutrients then flushed with neutral PH water. No further spreading of damaged leave has been seen but its a real disappointment as this plant would have produced a huge crop. The faster plant has been okay with the recommended feeding program. Worth noting that other growers have seen that this strain can be susceptible to nutrient burn. Future grows I'll certainly drop the amounts during flowering top dressing. Its all a learning process and I've learned and hopefully by sharing this will help others. Outside that the faster plant can be harvested anytime as the trichomes are cloudy and with a small percentage that are amber. I want this grow to be a nighttime strain so I'll be letting the trichomes amber to 25%. Smell is getting more noticeable but still remains sweet and pleasant. Buds are quite sticky and are very dense and are showing some purple colouring. Its not the lights but actually the plant that is that colour. I removed a smaller branch with struggling bud development and did a quick dry and sampled it. For a non-cured and immature bud I was quite impressed. I don't smoke a lot so it still hit me pretty good and the flavour was decent. I use a vape so harshness is reduced but compared to other varieties it still went down smoothly. It got me very excited to what a prime bud that has been properly dried and cured will be like.

Minor nutrient burn and have flushed it and not seeing any additional leaves with damage. The plant still has a month left and I am wondering if the plant will remain without nutrients for the remainder of the grow or can I add additional nutrients but with a limited amount?

You're in the home stretch with them now, and you're using Gaia which is what I'm using and you could add a compost tea, with the dry ammendments and unsulphered molasses and a bit of worm castings for the next watering and then let it fade I would also adjust your light time to 18/6...24 hours is alot of time and they need time to brake stuff down and respirator at night to empty themselves of natural build ups..So.ya compost tea and change light schedual

You can absolutely start nutrients again and you're going to want to because of the amount of stress she's been under in my opinion. Just tread lightly growmie and best of luck 🤞

This week saw the harvest of the faster plant and another flush on the slower plant. Previous flushes did drop the nutrient levels and burning was lessened but still present so I gave it another flush. The buds are still putting on weight and looking quite promising. With the faster plant gone from the tent I was able to spread out the outer buds to make interior space for the next three weeks. Slower plant is starting to foxtail and I raised lights and increased airflow. Temps climbed to 35C at one point as fan speed was reduced and outside temps got warmer.

Plants grew vigorously and shrugged off a few errors to produce 260g per plant. The slower plant was foxtailing and the density of the buds isn't great but in the end once its ground up and consumed the density doesn't matter. Its a very pleasant high and been thoroughly been enjoying it. Already tastes great and its not really cured at this point.
